There is no universally best version of a multiplatform game. Start with the hardware you already own, then check the exact game’s edition, PC requirements, online play with friends, save and account rules, and the price in your region. Features differ by game—even between titles from the same publisher—so confirm them on that game’s current support page before buying.
Start with the hardware and place you want to play
If you already own a suitable PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch, that version is usually the simplest starting point. A different platform makes sense when it gives you a specific benefit that matters: for example, portability, access to friends, or a version that works with your computer. Don’t buy new hardware for an unspecified game before checking whether the game’s requirements and features make that worthwhile.
For Switch, portability may be central to the decision. For PC, the deciding question is whether your particular computer can run the game well enough. For any platform, consider where you expect to play and which system you already use for multiplayer and other games.
Compare the same edition and purchase format
Make an like-for-like comparison: standard with standard, deluxe with deluxe, and the same region and format. Check what each listing includes, such as add-ons, upgrade options, or access to more than one console generation. A digital edition and a physical edition may not provide the same entitlements.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
NBA 2K26 illustrates why the exact listing matters. 2K says its digital Standard Edition includes both PS4 and PS5 versions, or both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions. Its physical Standard Edition includes a redemption code for the accompanying digital copy. The FAQ says that equivalent cross-generation entitlement is not offered for Switch or PC. These are rules for NBA 2K26, not a guarantee about other games. 2K’s NBA 2K26 Crossplay and Cross Gen FAQ was published August 18, 2025 and updated July 8, 2026.
Check PC requirements for your computer
“PC” does not describe one fixed level of performance. The result depends on your computer, the game’s PC version, and its settings. Find the official system requirements for the exact game and compare them with your PC’s components before purchasing. EA’s Apex Legends FAQ, for example, points players to separate PC system requirements.

- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.
- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
If performance is the deciding factor, look for credible tests of the same game across the specific versions you are considering. Compare resolution, frame rate, graphics settings, and stability under comparable conditions. A general claim that PC is faster—or that a console version performs better—cannot settle the question without a test of that game and hardware. No cross-platform performance comparison is established here for a particular title.
Verify multiplayer with the people you want to play with
Cross-play is game-specific. Check which platforms can play together, whether the game separates players by console generation, and how it handles mixed PC-and-console parties. A game can support cross-play on some systems but not others.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
EA’s current guidance shows how much arrangements can vary:
- For EA SPORTS FC, EA says cross-play is available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox in generation-based groups. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 do not support cross-play for FC. See EA’s FC cross-play guidance.
- For Apex Legends, EA says console players can play together, while PC players generally match with PC players. A console player who joins a party with a PC player enters PC matches. See EA’s Apex Legends FAQ.
These examples apply to those games only. Before buying, confirm the current matchmaking rules for the exact title—and ask friends which platforms and generations they use.

Treat cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-buy as different features
Being able to play together does not mean your save, purchases, or entitlement will follow you to another platform. Check each feature separately:
- Cross-play: Can players on different platforms play together?
- Cross-progression: Does progress carry between platforms or generations, and which modes are covered?
- Cross-buy or cross-generation entitlement: Does one purchase include another version, such as the PS4 and PS5 editions?
- Account content and currency: Do add-ons, balances, and other purchases remain available when you switch platforms?
For EA SPORTS FC, EA says progression can carry between generations within the same platform family, but not from PlayStation to Xbox; PlayStation cross-progression is limited to Ultimate Team. For NBA 2K26, 2K says cross-platform progression is not supported, even though the game supports cross-platform multiplayer. Verify the details in the game’s own documentation rather than inferring one feature from another.
Best Value
- Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions through haptic feedback
- Experience varying levels of force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers
- Chat online through the built-in microphone and connect a headset directly through the 3.5mm jack
- Switch voice capture on and off using the dedicated mute button
- Play on more devices using the USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth to connect easily to Windows PC and Mac computers, Android and iOS mobile phones as well as your PlayStation 5
Account balances can also have exceptions. EA says Apex Coins acquired on Nintendo Switch remain on Switch, while balances acquired on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox are shared across those platforms. That is an Apex Legends rule, not a general rule for game currency. EA’s Apex Legends FAQ lists the account details.
Compare the local price only after confirming what you get
Once you know which versions work for your hardware, friends, and account needs, compare the same edition in the same region and format. Check the platform store and publisher details for included content, upgrade costs, and any generation entitlement. Prices change by region and date, and no single current price can be named without a specific game and market.
Quick Recap
