Red Dead Redemption 2 runs on PS5 as the PS4 game through backward compatibility, not as a native PS5 edition with a documented 60 FPS mode. A third-party compatibility tracker lists the game at a locked 30 FPS on PS5; there is no documented in-game setting that unlocks a higher frame rate. PS5 Pro owners can enable a system-level image-quality option, but Sony does not say that it raises RDR2’s FPS.
Why RDR2 is still capped at 30 FPS on PS5
PlayStation lists Red Dead Redemption 2 as a PS4 game, marked PS4 Pro Enhanced and playable on PS5 subject to compatibility notices. Rockstar likewise described the PS4 version as playable on PS5 through backward compatibility, rather than announcing a native PS5 upgrade.
That distinction matters: PS5 hardware running a PS4 game does not automatically remove the game’s existing frame-rate behavior. The third-party compatibility tracker Backwards Compatible reports RDR2 at a locked 30 FPS on PS5, matching its entry for PS4 Pro. Its entry was last updated January 4, 2021, so treat that figure as the tracker’s record, not as a recent Rockstar benchmark. See the tracker entry.
The available sources establish the compatibility path and the reported frame rate, but not Rockstar’s specific reason for setting or retaining the cap. Claims that it was chosen for a particular CPU limitation, cinematic effect, or deliberate technical trade-off are not established here.

What you can change on a standard PS5
Keep the console’s system software current and play the PS4 version. Sony says Game Boost can help selected PS4 games run with a higher or smoother frame rate, but it does not guarantee a change for every game. The RDR2 tracker entry reports 30 FPS on PS5, and the available sources do not document a player-accessible RDR2 setting that unlocks 60 FPS. Sony’s PS5 backward-compatibility guidance describes Game Boost in general terms.
What PS5 Pro’s image-quality option does
PS5 Pro offers a system setting called Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games. Sony describes it as an image-quality feature, not an RDR2 performance mode; the support page does not say it changes the game’s frame rate.

- On a supported PS5 Pro, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
- Select Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games.
- If you encounter unexpected gameplay behavior, turn the option off, as Sony advises.
Sony says the feature requires a 1440p or 2160p display running at 60 Hz and is available only on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. Check Sony’s PS5 Pro image-quality instructions for the full requirements. The option may be worth trying if image clarity is your goal; it is not a documented way to get RDR2 to 60 FPS.

A display or TV may process motion in a way that makes movement look different, but that is not the same as the game rendering more frames per second. The available sources do not establish that a particular TV setting raises RDR2’s actual FPS, so do not treat display processing as a game-side frame-rate fix.
