There is no single best Nintendo Switch 2 game for every player. For a fast, marquee racing game, start with Mario Kart World; for a solo adventure built around exploration and destruction, choose Donkey Kong Bananza; and for a slower town-building experience, consider Pokémon Pokopia. Recommendations here were checked on October 4, 2026; the title retains its March 2026 update label.

What to play on Switch 2 right now
Pick a racing game: Mario Kart World
If you want a recognizable, pick-up-and-play racing choice, this is the clearest fit in the selection. TechRadar’s Rhys Wood called it “easily the standout launch title on Nintendo Switch 2”—an editorial judgment, not a guarantee that it will suit every player. The cited guides establish its racing appeal, but do not provide enough verified detail here to recommend it on the basis of a particular player count or online requirement. Check the official product page if those details matter to your group.
Pick an exploratory solo adventure: Donkey Kong Bananza
Its central draw is the ability to deform terrain and break through environments while exploring for collectibles and secrets. That makes it the pick for players who want active discovery rather than a race or a life-sim loop. TechRadar’s reviewer also notes limitations in the story, so choose it for its exploration and destruction rather than expecting the narrative to be its main strength.

Pick a cozy town-building game: Pokémon Pokopia

Consider action missions or a third-party release
Splatoon Raiders is the action-oriented option in this list, described by TechRadar as a solo take built around missions and progression. Its purchase availability should be checked for your region. For a non-Nintendo game, GameSpot’s inclusion of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition illustrates the wider third-party catalogue; confirm the precise edition and current listing before buying.

How to tell a new Switch 2 game from an upgraded Switch release
Not every game listed for Switch 2 is a newly made, standalone Switch 2 release. Nintendo’s catalog distinguishes Switch 2 titles from “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” releases, while many original Switch games are also playable through backward compatibility. Some older games have paid upgrades or performance benefits; the exact terms depend on the title.
- Switch 2 game: A title listed as made for Switch 2.
- Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: A Switch game with a distinct Switch 2 Edition listing. Check whether you need to buy that edition or an upgrade and what it includes.
- Backward-compatible Switch game: An original Switch release that can be played on Switch 2; compatibility does not by itself mean it has a paid upgrade or Switch 2-specific enhancements.
Nintendo’s US store catalog includes Switch 2 Edition releases such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Check the listing for your region before purchase: edition names, upgrade requirements, prices, and sale status can differ or change.

What is the most popular Switch 2 title?
“Popular” depends on the measure. Nintendo Life reported Mario Kart World sales of 15.39 million copies as of the end of June 2026, the largest figure among the sales snapshots in its guide. In the same time-bound report, it listed Donkey Kong Bananza at 4.78 million, Pokémon Legends: Z-A at 3.99 million, Pokémon Pokopia at 3.68 million, Kirby Air Riders at 1.90 million, and Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition at 1.15 million copies. These are dated reported figures, not a live sales tally or a measure of how much any one player will enjoy a game.
Review scores and reader rankings answer different questions from sales. Nintendo Life says its ranking is based on reader ratings and requires at least 50 user ratings for a game to qualify; scores on aggregators can change. Treat rankings as one signal, then choose by genre and the kind of play you want.
