If a PlayStation Plus game will not download or install, first identify whether it is queued, stuck, failing during installation or update, or locked because PlayStation cannot confirm access. Those symptoms have different fixes. Check PlayStation service status, confirm the account and game entitlement, then work through the matching steps below before trying Safe Mode.
1. Identify what is failing and note the error code
Before changing settings, note the exact error code and message, if one appears. Then identify the symptom:
- Download will not start: It may be waiting in the queue or the account may not have access to the game.
- Download starts but stalls: Check PlayStation services and the console’s internet connection.
- Download completes but installation or an update fails: Check storage and system software before reinstalling.
- Game appears locked or access cannot be confirmed: Check the account, subscription, catalog availability, and licenses.
PlayStation’s error-code index separates storage, network, license, subscription, content-availability, and installation issues. Use the entry for your exact code rather than assuming every failure has the same cause.
2. Check service status and your access to the game
Look at the PlayStation service status page first. If it reports an alert affecting the relevant service, wait for service to recover before repeatedly retrying; a service outage cannot be fixed through console settings.

For a PS Plus game, make sure you are signed in to the account entitled to it, that its subscription is active, and—if it is a catalog title—that the game is still listed in the catalog. If access comes from another account, check the relevant sharing or activation setting: Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5 or primary PS4 activation.
For a locked or unconfirmed title, restore licenses after checking that the account is entitled to the game. On PS4, PlayStation’s instructions for error WS-46332-8—described as “Your PlayStation®Plus content isn’t able to download.”—are to restart the console, go to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses, then turn the console off and back on after a few minutes. If the problem remains, contact PlayStation Support about WS-46332-8.

3. Retry or restart the download queue
Use the controls for your console to pause and resume the item. If it remains stuck, cancel and delete the queued download, then start the game download again from your library.
- PS5: Open Downloads/Uploads in the control center and choose Pause, then Resume. If that fails, choose Cancel and Delete, find the game in Game Library, and start the download again.
- PS4: Open Notifications > Downloads and choose Pause, then Resume. If it is still stuck, choose Cancel and Delete and retry from Library.
These are PlayStation’s initial queue-recovery steps in its game download troubleshooting guidance.

4. Check the console’s required free space
Compare the available storage with the minimum free-space requirement shown for the title. Do not rely on the game’s listed download size alone; the console’s displayed requirement is the more useful check.
- PS5: In Game Library, select the title, open its more menu, and choose View Product to see the minimum free space. Check available space at Settings > Storage.
- PS4: Check the title’s Details section in PlayStation Store for required free space. Check available space at Settings > Storage.
If storage is below the displayed requirement, free space and retry the download or installation.

5. Test the connection, restart, and update the console
If the transfer is stuck, test the connection at Settings > Network. If the test shows a connection problem, follow PlayStation’s connection troubleshooting steps. A wired connection is also an optional way to diagnose whether Wi-Fi is contributing to a stalled download; it will not resolve an entitlement, storage, corrupted-data, or service-status problem.
Restart the console and make sure its system software is current. For a game-start failure that requires downloading the game again, PlayStation also suggests trying a wired connection if possible. See its game launch troubleshooting.

6. Reinstall the affected game, then use the right Safe Mode option
For an update that will not install, PlayStation’s sequence is to test the internet connection, restart the console, update system software, and then delete and reinstall the affected game or app. If those steps do not work, use the console-specific Safe Mode repair option described in PlayStation’s game troubleshooting guidance and Safe Mode instructions.
- PS5: Safe Mode offers Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
- PS4: Safe Mode offers Rebuild Database.
Do not jump to initialization or system-software reinstallation as a routine first step. These are more disruptive recovery options; back up important data before using them. PlayStation’s error guidance warns that PS4 initialization erases data saved in console storage. Follow the official Safe Mode instructions for the exact option and console.
7. Use the code to choose the next support path
Some examples in PlayStation’s error index show why the exact code matters:
- CE-107872-5: insufficient free console storage.
- CE-107863-5: network connection error.
- NP-104291-7 and CE-109245-1: license verification problems.
- CE-107255-0 and CE-116799-3: inability to confirm a PS Plus subscription.
- CE-107891-6: content did not install properly; CE-120706-6: an update installation failed.
- CE-37700-7: content unavailable in the PlayStation Store; CE-32869-8: invalid application information, potentially related to a partially corrupted database.
These are examples, not a complete diagnosis list. Confirm your code in the current PlayStation error-code index; code meanings and support steps are specific to the console and situation.

8. Contact PlayStation Support with useful details
If the game still will not download or install, contact PlayStation Support with the exact error code and message, the account and title involved, and a short description of what happens and which steps you tried. PlayStation’s download troubleshooting guidance also asks for the time of a download attempt and, if possible, a screenshot or video.
