Blue Fire is a release 1.0 storyline quest that sends you from an Item 1156 clue to Mechanic, through a device-fragment recovery and a Lab server-room objective, and later to three Rus Post tapes and an Item 1156 specification in a nearby car. The fragment has two alternative Streets of Tarkov routes; you only need the key for the route you choose. The steps below reflect community guides checked on October 5, 2026, so confirm objectives and item requirements in your current quest screen because patches can change them.
How to start Blue Fire
Find and read a leaflet or note referring to Item 1156 at a supported location, then return to base and speak with Mechanic. Listed clue locations include the Woods Scav base/EMERCOM camp, several spots on Interchange, and a prototype-weapon area in The Labyrinth. Tarkov.help describes a leaflet in a green container at the Woods EMERCOM camp and an Interchange tent option; the community wiki and Tarkov Market list additional locations. Because the guides do not enumerate identical start points, use the active quest screen to confirm what counts in your current version.

Recover the device fragment: choose one of two Streets routes
You can obtain the fragment from either of these locations. They are alternatives, not sequential objectives, so prepare the key for the route you plan to run.

Both routes are listed by [Tarkov.help] and the [Escape from Tarkov Wiki]. The best option depends on which key you can bring, your familiarity with the map, and the raid risk you are willing to take; the sources do not establish that one route is objectively faster.
Deliver the fragment and plant the hacking device in The Lab
- Hand the recovered fragment to Mechanic when the quest instructs you to do so.
- Obtain the Local network hacking device. The community wiki says Mechanic sends it through in-game mail and also lists a barter as an alternative.
- Enter The Lab and plant the device in the server room, following the objective marker.
The community wiki says the Lab step can complete automatically if you already completed it in the Boreas story chapter. If the objective remains active, follow the current in-game instruction rather than assuming prior progress counted.

Check the Mechanic choice before confirming it
The guides conflict on the keep-fragment choice: the community wiki associates keeping it with the achievement “Better Served” and handing it over with a 1,500,000-rouble reward, while Tarkov.help gives a different achievement name (“All for Myself”) and says keeping the fragment leaves the storyline incomplete at that point. Tarkov Market confirms the broad objective flow but does not resolve the discrepancy. Treat the reward and achievement labels as guide-reported, not guaranteed current outcomes; read the choice prompt and objectives in game before selecting.
Tarkov.help lists +100,000 experience as a quest reward on its page. Confirm the reward shown in your own quest interface, since rewards and storyline behavior may change between patches.

Find and read the next Item 1156 clue
After the earlier quest sequence, locate and read a note that advances the Item 1156 lead. Listed options are:
- Ground Zero: A location requiring the TerraGroup science office key; the guide listing it specifies level 21+.
- Lighthouse: The northern blue chalet.
- The Lab: Office O22 on the second floor.
The Ground Zero key is not described as mandatory if you can reach one of the other listed clue locations. The supported locations come from the community wiki result; verify the objective marker and quest text before entering a raid, as location details can change.

Collect the Rus Post tapes and retrieve the car specification
- Go to the Rus Post office on Streets of Tarkov.
- Find and pick up all three audio tapes in the office, then listen to each one.
- Locate the Rus Post car nearby, open it with the Rus Post car key, and take and read the Item 1156 specification inside.
The guides give different tape positions, so search the full office or use a current in-game overlay rather than relying on a single remembered spot. They also disagree about the car key: the community wiki result says a key is guaranteed by the car’s back right wheel each raid, while Tarkov.help says it may spawn nearby or be found randomly. Check around the car, but do not build your raid plan around a guaranteed spawn. [Tarkov.help] and the [community wiki] both cover this sequence, with the noted differences.

Raid preparation checklist
- Read the initial Item 1156 clue and confirm Blue Fire appears in your quest objectives.
- For the fragment, bring either the Mysterious room marked key for Chekannaya 13 or the Car dealership closed section key for LexOs.
- Before The Lab, check whether you already satisfy the server-room objective through Boreas progress; bring or obtain the Local network hacking device if it is still required.
- For the later clue, choose among Ground Zero, Lighthouse, and The Lab based on access; the Ground Zero route has a listed TerraGroup science office key requirement.
- At Rus Post, search the office for three tapes and check the car area for the key instead of assuming a fixed tape position or guaranteed key spawn.
