That does not mean every retailer has sold out. Quest 2’s all-in-one design still lets it run VR without a PC, and Meta also described support for PC VR through Oculus Link. Whether a particular unit is worth buying depends on its condition, price, fit, and whether the games you want currently support it.
Availability and the short verdict
Meta’s product page states that “Meta Quest 2 is no longer available” and directs shoppers to Quest 3S. Meta’s Quest 2 product page does not establish that all retailers are out of new units, nor does it set a used price or a software-support end date. Treat any purchase as a specific listing to evaluate, not as a standard new-device buy.
For a used buyer, the main appeal is a self-contained headset that can also connect to a gaming PC. The main uncertainty is the individual unit and its ongoing compatibility: the available product information does not settle current local prices, battery condition, or title-by-title app support.
What Quest 2 is and how it plays
Standalone VR
Meta introduced Quest 2 as an all-in-one headset: it runs Quest VR content on the headset rather than requiring a PC. That makes standalone play distinct from PC VR, and a Link cable is not required for ordinary standalone use.

Meta’s September 2020 launch announcement also described Oculus Link compatibility for PC VR and improved compatibility with third-party cables. Meta’s launch announcement supports Link as an optional PC-VR route; it does not mean PC hardware is included or establish the requirements for a particular current PC, cable, or game. Check the current requirements for the PC-VR software and title you intend to use before buying accessories.
Hardware, display and fit
Meta’s launch-era specifications identify a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor and 6 GB of RAM. The headset was described as over 10% lighter than the original Quest, with three physical lens-position settings for interpupillary distance (IPD)—the distance between the centers of your pupils. Meta presented those settings as a way to adjust lens position for visual comfort; that claim does not guarantee a comfortable fit for every face.

For repair identification, iFixit lists the Quest 2 model number as KW49CM and gives a weight of 503 g, a resolution of 1832 × 1920 pixels per eye, and refresh rates up to 120 Hz. It describes three IPD positions at 58, 63, and 68 mm. These are secondary, repair-oriented specifications rather than a current manufacturer comparison. iFixit’s Quest 2 device reference also notes that Quest 2 does not support Oculus Go apps; do not infer that every Quest title or older headset app will work on it.
Meta’s 2020 announcement said 90 Hz support was available at launch in specified system applications through experimental settings, with a planned extension to developers. That historical launch note is not a complete account of later firmware behavior, so it should not be used as a current compatibility promise.

Comfort and battery accessories
Fit is personal, and a used headset’s condition matters more than a general weight comparison. Try the headset on if possible, or make sure the seller allows returns. Check that the facial interface sits securely and is in acceptable condition, and confirm that the IPD positions can be selected and remain in place.
Meta named the Elite Strap with Battery and Fit Pack as Quest 2 accessories. Meta claimed the battery strap “delivers double the playtime,” along with improved balance and ergonomics; that is the manufacturer’s accessory claim, not an independent runtime measurement. Accessory availability and compatibility should be confirmed for the exact item before purchase. A battery head strap or different facial interface may be relevant to a buyer’s fit or session-length needs, but neither is necessary to establish the headset’s standalone or Link use.

What to inspect before buying a used Quest 2
There is no verified general used-price range or battery-health conclusion here, so judge the listing on the actual unit, its included items, and the seller’s return terms.
- Lenses: Inspect for scratches, cracks, deep marks, or anything that remains visible when looking through the headset.
- Display: Power it on and check both eyes for dead pixels, discoloration, flicker, or other visible defects.
- Controllers: Confirm both are included, pair and track, and that their buttons and sticks respond as expected.
- Battery: Ask the seller about charging and runtime, and test it during the return period if possible. A listing alone cannot establish battery condition.
- Fit and accessories: Check the strap, facial interface, charger, and any advertised extras. Verify the exact compatibility of optional accessories.
- Return terms: Prefer a seller who lets you test the unit and return it if a fault appears. Do not assume warranty coverage or support duration from the listing.
Quest 2 versus the current alternative
Meta currently promotes Quest 3S from the Quest 2 product page. Its device comparison, updated September 30, 2026, lists Quest 3 and Quest 3S but not Quest 2. That omission is not an announcement that Quest 2 Link support has ended, or a software-support policy. Meta’s current Quest device comparison is useful for the current lineup, but the available material does not provide a complete Quest 2-versus-3S comparison of price, performance, display, or support.

Compare the actual cost and condition of a Quest 2 listing with a current alternative in your region. Also verify that the games and features you want are supported on the exact headset: the available information does not establish current compatibility for every title.
Support and software uncertainty
No exact end date for Quest 2 feature updates or security fixes is established by the sources cited here. Meta’s current lineup page does not list Quest 2, but that fact alone cannot answer how long updates, services, or individual apps will remain available. If long-term support is important, check Meta’s current policy and the requirements of the specific games and services before paying.
