There is no single best Xbox headset for everyone. RTINGS names the Audeze Maxwell 2 its best-tested Xbox Series X|S headset, while GamesRadar favors the Xbox-compatible SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless. The Maxwell 2 is the sound-first premium pick; the Nova Pro Wireless is a feature-rich option with hot-swappable batteries. For a lower-cost wireless route, consider the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 3; for a wired headset, the Logitech G432 avoids battery management. The right choice depends on your exact Xbox, preferred connection, comfort, chat needs, and budget.
This guide reflects the recommendations and product details available on October 5, 2026. The picks come from separate editorial guides, not a controlled head-to-head test, and no current street prices or stock are established here.
Best Xbox headsets at a glance
| Best for | Headset | Why it stands out | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tested sound | Audeze Maxwell 2 Xbox | RTINGS names it its best-tested Xbox Series X|S headset; it has balanced planar-driver sound and app EQ. | Buy the Xbox-specific version; its premium cost and weight may not suit everyone. |
| Premium wireless features | SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless for Xbox | GamesRadar’s preferred Series X headset, with simultaneous 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth audio, swappable batteries, and a retractable mic. | Expensive; choose the Xbox-compatible version. |
| Mid-range wireless | SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X Wireless | RTINGS reports low-latency wireless dongle support for Xbox, PC, and PlayStation, plus Bluetooth for phone audio. | RTINGS measured over 33 hours of continuous runtime, shorter than its top picks; the mic is not removable. Its page had not tested the newer second generation. |
| Long tested battery runtime | Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 3 | RTINGS reports 85 hours of continuous runtime in its testing, a comfortable fit, and a capable mic. | The build feels plasticky, and the headset cannot be used by plugging it in when the battery is depleted. |
| Budget wired | Logitech G432 | RTINGS describes low-latency wired audio, balanced sound, and a strong boom mic. | PC-focused features do not work on Xbox, and fit can affect sound consistency. |
| Xbox One and Series X|S value | SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X Wireless | GamesRadar identifies the Xbox-specific 3X as compatible with Xbox One and Series X|S, and says the package includes an adapter for older Xbox hardware. | Do not confuse it with Nova 3 variants for other platforms; check package contents, which can change. |
| Official console-focused option | Xbox Wireless Headset | Direct Xbox Wireless connection, Bluetooth 5.3, simultaneous console and phone pairing, and app controls for EQ and mic settings. | Microsoft estimates up to 20 hours per charge; a separate guide lists 15 hours, and the discrepancy is not resolved here. |
Which Xbox headset should you buy?
Choose the Audeze Maxwell 2 Xbox for sound-first listening
RTINGS names the Maxwell 2 its best-tested headset for Xbox Series X|S, citing balanced sound from its planar drivers and app-based EQ. This is a category recommendation from RTINGS, not a universal winner or a direct comparison against every headset in this guide. The Xbox version matters: RTINGS says Maxwell 2 is sold in separate Xbox and PlayStation variants. Windows Central also flags the headset’s weight and the Xbox edition’s premium cost as considerations. See RTINGS’ Xbox headset guide and Windows Central’s Maxwell 2 review.
Choose the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless for premium features
GamesRadar favors the Xbox-compatible Nova Pro Wireless for Series X. Its practical differentiators are simultaneous 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth audio, hot-swappable batteries, and a retractable microphone. That mix suits players who want to keep console and phone audio available and avoid waiting for a headset battery to recharge. It is an expensive option, and only the Xbox-compatible version belongs in an Xbox recommendation. Read GamesRadar’s Series X headset picks.
#1 Best Overall
- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion
Choose the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X for mid-range wireless flexibility
RTINGS reports that the Nova 7X’s low-latency wireless dongle works across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation, while Bluetooth can add phone audio. Its guide reports more than 33 hours of continuous runtime in testing. The mic is not removable, and RTINGS says its tested runtime is shorter than that of its top picks. Check the exact 7X model: the guide had not tested the newer second generation, so its findings should not be assumed to apply to that revision.
Choose the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 3 if runtime matters
RTINGS reports 85 hours of continuous runtime in its testing of the Stealth 600 Gen 3, along with a comfortable fit and capable microphone. The trade-offs are a plastic-feeling build and no wired fallback when the battery runs out. That makes battery planning more important than with a headset you can keep using through a cable.
Choose the Logitech G432 for simple wired use
The G432 connects by wire and does not need charging. RTINGS describes its audio as low-latency and balanced, with a strong boom microphone. Its PC-focused features do not work on Xbox, and fit affects sound consistency, so comfort and earcup positioning matter.

- Best-in-Class Battery Life of up to 40 Hours Plus Quick Charge
- QuickSwitch Button for Seamless Wireless to Bluetooth switching
- Ultra-Lightweight, Floating Headband and Memory Foam Cushions
- Amplified 40mm Drivers for Powerful Spatial Audio
Choose the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X for Xbox One and Series X|S compatibility
GamesRadar identifies the Nova 3X as the Xbox-specific model for Xbox One and Series X|S, and reports that its package includes an adapter for older Xbox hardware. The same guide reports up to nine hours of use from a 15-minute fast charge; treat that as GamesRadar’s claim and confirm both the product generation and package details for the listing you are buying. The 3X suffix matters: do not assume another Nova 3 platform variant works the same way. See GamesRadar’s Xbox One headset guide.

Choose the Xbox Wireless Headset for direct console pairing
Microsoft’s headset connects to Xbox through Xbox Wireless and can pair with a Bluetooth device at the same time, making it a straightforward console-focused option if you want to mix in phone audio. Its app offers EQ, bass boost, auto-mute, LED, and mic-monitoring controls. Microsoft lists a dual-microphone bendable boom, 40 mm speakers, USB-C charging, game/chat balance on the left earcup, and volume control on the right. The official specification is 11 oz (320 g). Check Microsoft’s Xbox Wireless Headset specifications.
Check Xbox compatibility before you buy
Headset families often include platform-specific versions. The product name, exact SKU, and included transmitter matter more than a generic “wireless” or “gaming headset” label.

- Xbox Wireless: The official Xbox Wireless Headset connects directly to Xbox One and Series X|S using Xbox Wireless.
- Wireless transmitter: Some headsets use a compatible wireless dongle rather than connecting directly to the console. Confirm the Xbox-specific model and that its included transmitter supports Xbox.
- Controller cable: A conventional 3.5 mm wired headset can connect through a compatible controller. For example, RTINGS says the Xbox audio and mic connection for the open-back Turtle Beach Atlas Air is analog through the controller, not wireless on Xbox; it also leaks sound because of its open-back design.
- Bluetooth: Bluetooth on a headset does not by itself establish Xbox audio compatibility. On the Xbox Wireless Headset, Bluetooth is for a separate device such as a phone; the Xbox connection is Xbox Wireless.
Microsoft lists the Xbox Wireless Headset for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. For other models, verify the exact variant before checkout: RTINGS warns that Maxwell 2 has separate Xbox and PlayStation versions, and GamesRadar identifies Nova 3X—not every Nova 3—as the Xbox One and Series model.

Wireless freedom means charging and model-specific compatibility checks. Wired headsets avoid battery management but tie you to a cable and, for many models, the controller. A wireless headset’s Bluetooth support may serve a phone or PC without providing any Xbox connection at all.
| Headset | Runtime or battery detail | Evidence and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Wireless Headset | Up to 20 hours per charge; about four hours of use from a 30-minute charge; about three hours for a full charge while not in use. | Microsoft’s current product-page figures; battery life varies, and Microsoft says its testing used pre-production units. |
| Xbox Wireless Headset | 15 hours. | Listed by Stuff’s guide; the reviewed material does not establish which generation it describes, so it should not be combined with Microsoft’s current figure. |
| SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X Wireless | More than 33 hours continuous runtime. | RTINGS’ test-guide claim for the model it tested; its guide says the newer second generation had not been tested. |
| Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 3 | 85 hours continuous runtime. | RTINGS’ independent test-guide claim for this headset, not a manufacturer guarantee. |
| SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless for Xbox | Swappable batteries. | GamesRadar highlights the battery system; no runtime figure is established here. |
The 15-hour and up-to-20-hour Xbox Wireless Headset figures should not be treated as interchangeable: the model generation behind Stuff’s number is not established. For all listed runtime figures, conditions and use can affect what an individual player gets.

Sound, chat, and spatial audio
Sound quality is more than a driver type or a “surround” label. RTINGS highlights sound profile, EQ, microphone quality, runtime, and construction across its picks. An EQ app can let you adjust a headset’s default tuning, while microphone features affect how clearly teammates hear you. Consider whether the mic is removable or retractable, where its mute controls sit, and whether the model’s Xbox connection supports chat as well as game audio.
Xbox One and Series X|S support Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Headphone:X with supported headsets and content, according to Microsoft. Compatibility does not mean every headset or game produces the same spatial-audio effect. Microsoft notes that DTS may require additional purchases, downloads, and hardware. Dolby directs Xbox users to the Dolby Access app to set up Atmos for Headphones and describes a free trial. Microsoft’s headset page lists spatial-audio conditions; Dolby’s Xbox page explains Dolby Access and its trial.
What to check before ordering
- Console generation: Confirm compatibility with Xbox One, Series X|S, or both, especially if you use an older console or controller.
- Exact variant: Match the Xbox SKU, not just the product family name. Check the listing title, model code, and included transmitter.
- Connection path: Establish whether the headset uses Xbox Wireless, an Xbox-compatible transmitter, or the controller’s analog jack. Do not infer Xbox support from Bluetooth or USB alone.
- Comfort: Check weight and fit. A headset that sounds good but presses uncomfortably during long sessions is a poor match; Windows Central specifically notes the Maxwell 2’s weight.
- Battery fallback: Decide whether swappable batteries, a long tested runtime, or the ability to use a cable matters most. The Stealth 600 Gen 3 cannot be plugged in to bypass a depleted battery, per RTINGS.
- Price and package: Prices and availability change by region and retailer. Verify the current listing, generation, accessories, and return terms rather than relying on an older review’s price or package description.
