A $500 gaming PC is possible only as a conditional US tower-only target—not a dependable checkout total. The most sensible direction is a Ryzen 5 5600 platform with a discrete Radeon RX 6600, but getting the complete, compatible system under budget will likely require a used or unusually discounted graphics card. No verified live parts basket establishes that the build stays below $500 after shipping and tax.
What a $500 gaming PC budget can realistically cover
Start by defining the budget. The plan below treats $500 as the target for the PC tower’s components only; it does not establish a total that includes a monitor, keyboard, mouse, operating system, shipping, or sales tax. Those costs can push a checkout total higher.
Recent budget-build guides point toward a discrete GPU in the Radeon RX 6600 or GeForce RTX 3050 class, a Ryzen 5 5500 or Core i5-12400F, and 16 GB of memory. A separate guide says meeting this limit generally depends on buying a used GPU or finding a major sale. Neither guide certifies a currently available, compatible set of parts at a final delivered price. PCGuide’s under-$500 build guide and Windows Central’s budget-build guide offer starting points, not a guaranteed basket.
A practical parts direction: Ryzen 5 5600 and Radeon RX 6600
Graphics card: target a discrete RX 6600
The RX 6600 is a concrete, searchable target for a budget 1080p gaming system. AMD lists 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, 132 W typical board power, one 8-pin power connector, and a 450 W minimum power-supply recommendation. These are the card’s published specifications, not a promise that any PSU labelled 450 W will be suitable; check the exact unit’s quality and connectors.

- The world’s fastest gaming processor, built on AMD ‘Zen5’ technology and Next Gen 3D V-Cache.
- 8 cores and 16 threads, delivering +~16% IPC uplift and great power efficiency
- 96MB L3 cache with better thermal performance vs. previous gen and allowing higher clock speeds, up to 5.2GHz
- Drop-in ready for proven Socket AM5 infrastructure
- Cooler not included
AMD’s product page gives selected 1080p, maximum-settings examples for the RX 6600: 98 FPS in The Division 2, 138 FPS in Doom Eternal, 102 FPS in Far Cry 6, 118 FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, 153 FPS in Apex Legends, and 111 FPS in Fortnite. These are AMD-published examples, not independent test results for the complete build described here; performance varies by game, settings, and the rest of the system. AMD’s RX 6600 specifications and performance examples provide the details.
At this budget, a used or deeply discounted card may be necessary. Before buying, examine the specific listing, seller protections, return window, physical condition, and final delivered price rather than relying on a search-result price or the GPU’s model name alone.

Processor and motherboard: use AM4 to control platform cost
The Ryzen 5 5600 is a compatible platform direction: AMD specifies six cores and 12 threads, socket AM4, DDR4 support up to 3200 MT/s, and compatibility with B450 and B550 chipsets. It has no integrated graphics, so the build must include a discrete graphics card to produce a display output. Confirm that the particular motherboard supports the CPU; board revision and BIOS support can matter. AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600 specifications list its platform details.
Memory, storage, case, and power supply: select as a compatible set
Budget-build guidance points to 16 GB of RAM and an SSD, but the available recommendations do not validate particular models or a complete parts list. Select exact parts only after checking how they fit and connect together:

- Enthusiast CPU Thermal Compound: Premium Zinc Oxide based thermal compound for optimal thermal performance.
- Cools your CPU and GPU: Install new, or replace existing thermal compound on your CPU and GPU to improve heat transfer and lower temperatures.
- Improved CPU Cooling: Ultra-low thermal impedance lowers CPU temperatures vs common thermal paste.
- Installation Made Easy: An included application stencil and spreader take the guesswork out of applying XTM50 to your CPU cooler.
- Filling the Gap: XTM50’s low-viscosity allows it to easily fill microscopic abrasions and channels for peak thermal transfer.
- Match the motherboard’s form factor to the case, and check its memory slots and supported DDR4 configuration.
- Confirm the SSD interface is supported by the motherboard and that the case has room for the board and graphics card.
- Check the RX 6600’s dimensions against the case’s GPU clearance and verify that the PSU has the card’s required 8-pin connector.
- Use AMD’s 450 W minimum PSU recommendation for the RX 6600 as a baseline, then verify the chosen power supply and the complete system’s requirements.
How to keep the complete parts list near $500
- Set the scope. Decide whether the budget includes only the tower or also tax, shipping, peripherals, and an operating system. The $500 target here is tower-only, and a final total including delivery costs is not verified.
- Price the GPU first. Compare RX 6600 listings by condition, seller support, return terms, and delivered price. A used card or unusually good sale may be needed to leave enough room for the rest of the system.
- Build around a compatible platform. Check the exact Ryzen 5 5600 and B450/B550 motherboard combination, including BIOS support, then price the board and CPU together.
- Complete the remaining component list. Choose 16 GB of DDR4, an SSD, a case that fits the board and GPU, and a suitable PSU with the required connector. Check interface, clearance, and compatibility for the actual models—not just the component categories.
- Recalculate at checkout. Add shipping and tax, confirm every item is available from the seller shown, and compare the delivered total with the cap. If it exceeds $500, revisit the GPU listing or wait for a better deal rather than treating an unverified estimate as a real total.
Discrete graphics or integrated graphics?
A discrete RX 6600 is the stronger direction when the goal is gaming performance and the budget can accommodate the card. If no acceptable discrete-GPU deal fits, an integrated-graphics build can be a fallback, but it is not an equivalent gaming alternative.
Older sub-$500 guidance using the Ryzen 5 5600G describes its play as strongest at 720p and modest at 1080p. That historical advice does not establish current comparative performance against an RX 6600 system, so use it as a lower-cost fallback concept rather than a current benchmark-based recommendation. PCWorld’s older $500 build guidance describes that approach.

| Gaming target | RX 6600 is the concrete GPU target; AMD publishes selected 1080p max-settings examples, not a guarantee for this complete build. | Older 5600G guidance characterizes play as strongest at 720p and modest at 1080p; current comparative benchmarks are not established. |
| Budget pressure | A used or unusually discounted graphics card may be necessary to reach the tower-only target. | A discrete card is not part of this fallback direction, but no current complete-parts price is established. |
| Upgrade path | The system already has a discrete GPU; check the chosen PSU and case for the selected card. | Can leave a discrete-GPU purchase for later, but the available evidence does not establish the upgrade cost or resulting performance. |
What to verify before buying
- Final price: Confirm the total for exact, available parts, including tax and shipping. No live compatible basket at or below $500 is established here.
- What the budget includes: State whether the cap covers only the tower or also peripherals and an operating system.
- GPU condition and recourse: Inspect the listing, seller, return terms, and buyer protections, especially for a used card.
- Physical and electrical fit: Check GPU clearance, motherboard form factor, SSD interface, and PSU wattage and connectors against the exact parts.
- Your games and settings: Treat AMD’s selected RX 6600 figures as examples for named games at 1080p maximum settings, not a universal frame-rate forecast.
