To listen offline, use the Nintendo Music app on a compatible phone or tablet and download music in the app while you’re online. The computer web version only streams: it does not offer downloads or offline playback. Nintendo does not publish a current tap-by-tap download path, so use the download controls shown in your app rather than relying on an assumed menu or button name.
What you need before downloading
- The Nintendo Music app on a compatible smartphone or tablet. Nintendo’s Canadian product page lists smart devices and computer browsers as ways to access the service: Nintendo Music product page.
- A Nintendo Account and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. The app is free to download, but membership is required to use the service: Nintendo Music product page.
- An internet connection while preparing music for offline listening. Nintendo says music must be downloaded in advance: Nintendo Music offline support.
You do not need to own a Nintendo Switch console to use Nintendo Music, according to Nintendo’s product information: Nintendo Music product page. Google Play lists Android 9.0 or later as the app requirement; the reviewed official sources do not establish a current minimum iOS version: Nintendo Music on Google Play.

How to prepare Nintendo Music for offline listening
- Install Nintendo Music on a compatible phone or tablet and sign in with your Nintendo Account.
- Make sure your Nintendo Switch Online membership is active, then open the app while connected to the internet.
- In the app, locate the music you want and use the download option available there. Nintendo confirms that downloaded app music can be played offline, but its support instructions do not specify the current button label or exact tap sequence. Availability of downloads for a particular track, album, or playlist should be confirmed in the app.
- Let the download finish before disconnecting. Then test playback in the app with your device offline so you know the selected music is available.
These downloads are for offline playback inside Nintendo Music. Nintendo’s support pages do not describe exporting tracks as audio files for use in other players.

That means a browser on a laptop or desktop cannot prepare music for a flight or another offline period. Make the downloads in the app before you lose connectivity.

What happens if you stay offline for a long time?
Nintendo says app downloads can expire after an extended period without an internet connection, but does not give a specific number of days. For error 9009-2201 on Android or 9010-2101 on iOS, Nintendo’s troubleshooting guidance, updated September 2, 2026, is to connect to the internet, open Nintendo Music, and leave it running for around 30 minutes: Nintendo Music error-code support.
- Android: Nintendo says the app may remain in the background during this process.
- iOS: Keep the app in the foreground. Letting the device sleep or moving the app to the background interrupts the process.
If downloaded music will not play offline
Nintendo also documents a possible offline-playback issue for Android users who updated to Nintendo Music app version 1.7. If an affected downloaded track will not play offline, Nintendo recommends playing it online first, then trying it again offline: Nintendo Music error-code support.
