Basketball Classics: a retro arcade alternative
Basketball Classics, developed by Namo Gamo and published by Acclaim, arrived on Steam on December 18, 2019. Steam describes it as 5-on-5 pro basketball with side-scrolling arcade action and on-the-fly strategy. Its listed features include simplified three-button gameplay, more than 175 teams, more than 1,000 players with individual attributes, a one-player story mode, and local multiplayer. Those counts and features are from the Steam store description.
It is a better fit if you want a compact, old-school feel than if you are looking for a modern simulation’s career and franchise structure. Steam’s page also describes the game as having no virtual currency, pay-to-win, or microtransactions. Check the Basketball Classics Steam page for its current availability and local price; those can change.

Leaving Steam does not always mean the same thing
A game can become unavailable for purchase while remaining downloadable to existing owners, and its online services can end on a separate date. The distinction matters with annual sports games: losing access to online modes does not necessarily remove offline modes from a copy you already own.
NBA 2K25’s scheduled changes
In a notice updated October 2, 2026, 2K says NBA 2K25 will no longer be available to purchase as of October 30, 2026, and will be discontinued as of December 31, 2026. Owners can still redownload it and play offline modes. From January 1, 2027, online modes, MyCAREER, MyTEAM, VC earning, and other server-dependent features are scheduled to end. Older NBA 2K games
2K says titles outside its current lineup, including NBA 2K24 and earlier releases, are discontinued and no longer available for purchase. Owners may redownload them and play offline modes, but multiplayer and other online features are unavailable after service retirement. For NBA 2K26, 2K’s current status table schedules online features through December 31, 2027. Because service plans can change, verify the specific title’s status before buying an older game for online play.
