The Legend of Zelda: Temple of Seasons is a fan-made ROM hack based on The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, not a standalone Nintendo release. It is reported to add five dungeons and remove Link’s sword, making items central to combat and exploration. Before you try to patch it, confirm the exact compatible base game and patch instructions in the creator’s current release notes: available coverage conflicts on which Oracle game is required.
What is Temple of Seasons?
Temple of Seasons is an unofficial expansion of the Game Boy Color adventure Oracle of Seasons. Coverage describes a five-dungeon journey from Subrosia to Mount Tetra. Its defining change is swordless play: tools and other items take on a greater role in both fighting and getting through the world.
Creator Jay described the design this way in a statement reproduced by Retro Dodo on September 1, 2026: “Here more than ever, your growing arsenal is necessary for both traversal and combat, and expect a few brand-new items to add a fresh take.” Retro Dodo’s report provides that description and identifies the project as a ROM hack.
What do you need to play it?
PlayCentral reported that the hack is distributed as a patch rather than a complete copy of Nintendo’s game, and that it requires a legally acquired US copy of Oracle of Seasons. However, Retro Dodo names Oracle of Ages (USA/Australia) as the required base game. Because those reports disagree, do not assume that either title, any region, or any ROM dump will work. Check the creator’s current release notes for the exact game, region, revision, and checksum before proceeding.

PlayCentral reports version 1.072, dated September 14, 2026, and an August 31, 2026 release. Treat those as dated reports, not a guarantee that this remains the latest version. Its account also says the game’s on-screen text is English, based on the US version. Read PlayCentral’s report.
- A legally obtained copy of the compatible base game, as specified by the creator.
- The patch file and patching method named in the creator’s release documentation.
- A compatible emulator or hardware setup, if specified by the creator.
The reports cited here do not establish the patch format, patching utility, supported ROM checksum, emulator compatibility, or exact launch steps. Use the creator’s instructions for those details rather than guessing; a cartridge or ROM with the right game title is not by itself proof of compatibility.

How should you approach the adventure?
Expect to solve problems with a growing item kit rather than relying on the sword-and-shield routine familiar from many Zelda games. Think about each tool as potentially serving more than one purpose: an item may help with a route, a puzzle, or an enemy. The reported journey and dungeon count give a broad sense of scope, but the available coverage does not document the hack’s precise opening objectives or dungeon order.
If you have not played the original Oracle of Seasons, its opening can provide useful background—but it is not a confirmed walkthrough for this hack. In the original game, Link arrives in Holodrum after Onox kidnaps Din. Impa directs him toward the Maku Tree in Horon Village, and the main quest is to gather eight Essences of Nature. Link obtains the Rod of Seasons after the first dungeon, then gradually unlocks its powers from the Season Spirits; at tree stumps, the Rod changes local conditions. These details describe the original game only. Joking Joystick’s original-game walkthrough covers that campaign.

Should you play the hack or the original?
| Consideration | Temple of Seasons | Oracle of Seasons |
|---|---|---|
| What you need | A compatible base game and the hack’s patch; exact compatibility details need confirmation in creator documentation. | The original Game Boy Color game. |
| Combat and traversal | Reportedly swordless, with items taking a larger role. | The original game’s sword-based adventure. |
| Route guidance | Available coverage does not establish a complete opening route. | Original-game walkthroughs describe the campaign, including its eight Essences of Nature. |
The hack is the more natural choice if you want a fan-made, item-centered variation and can verify that your base game matches the patch. The original is the straightforward choice if you want the documented, sword-based Holodrum campaign.
