Fortnite’s servers were reported back online after a major login and matchmaking disruption on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025. The available recovery updates indicate service returned in stages: one said restoration work was still underway, while a later update said players were matchmaking successfully. Epic’s live status page currently lists Fortnite as operational, but check it for the latest status because availability can change.
What happened during the Christmas outage?
An incident tracker records a major Epic Online Services login issue on December 25, 2025: incident listing. The disruption affected access to Fortnite and matchmaking. The available evidence does not establish the precise start time, the full duration, or the technical cause, so it cannot support claims that a particular provider, traffic surge, or attack caused the outage.

How Fortnite service recovered
Restoration work was still underway
An update reproduced in a Reddit community post said Epic was still working to bring Fortnite back online and restore matchmaking. It warned that players who were already logged in might be kicked while work continued: community post reproducing the update.

- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
A later update reported successful matchmaking
A separate community post reproduced a later status message saying Fortnite servers were back online and players were matchmaking successfully, with monitoring continuing: community post reproducing the update. This indicates recovery had progressed, but it does not establish exactly when every player regained access.
How to check Fortnite server status now
Check Epic Games Public Status for current Fortnite and related-service availability. The page currently lists Fortnite as operational, but its live status can change. If Epic’s status page does not give a restoration estimate, Epic Support advises players to keep monitoring it; Player Support says it has no additional outage information: Epic Support guidance.

If Epic reports no outage but you still cannot connect
When the status page shows no service incident, the issue may be specific to your connection or setup rather than a platform-wide outage. Follow Epic’s connection-troubleshooting guidance in its support article. If the status page reports an active problem, local equipment changes are unlikely to resolve an Epic-side login or matchmaking disruption; wait for service updates instead.

- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device.
