Why Some Players Called Stellar Blade “Uncensored” Claims Censorship

Some players called Stellar Blade censored after noticing that outfits in the day-one-patched game looked different from earlier images. The Holiday Rabbit and Cybernetic Bondage outfits were among the examples cited. Shift Up’s reported position was that the patched designs were the intended final versions; the available evidence does not establish that Sony ordered the changes or explain the studio’s internal reasoning.

What prompted the “censored” complaints?

The dispute centered on visible differences between earlier images or builds and the game as players encountered it after its day-one patch. Contemporary coverage named the Holiday Rabbit and Cybernetic Bondage outfits. Players who objected argued that the changes conflicted with the game’s “uncensored” framing.

That describes the complaint, not a settled finding about motive. A visual difference can be identified by comparing specific versions; it does not, by itself, show who chose the final design or why. Comparisons also need to identify which build or promotional image is being shown rather than treating every earlier image as equivalent to the released game.

What did Shift Up say about the outfits?

PlayStation LifeStyle reported that Shift Up CEO Hyung-Tae Kim’s position was that the post-patch designs were the intended final product. The report did not establish who made the internal decision or what motivated it. It also noted that a circulating claim that Sony offered refunds because of false advertising could not be verified.

For that reason, claims that Sony forced, ordered, or demanded the outfit changes go beyond what the documented evidence supports. The complaints and the reported developer position are known; the internal decision-making is not.

Did a later update restore the disputed designs?

No restoration is documented in Shift Up’s official announcement of patch 1.003 on May 23, 2024. The update added Boss Challenge, which lets players challenge the game’s 19 base-game bosses, and new Nano Suits. Shift Up director Kim Hyung Tae described the new outfits this way: “New Nano Suits have been added to bring out her beauty even more.” The post does not say that the Holiday Rabbit or Cybernetic Bondage designs were restored.

The announcement is evidence of the additions it describes, not proof of what a later game build may contain. It does not resolve the original question of why the disputed designs differed.
