A public alpha of XPSemu, an original Xbox emulator port for jailbroken PS5 consoles, can boot some original Xbox games. Results vary by title, and the figures reported so far come from the developer—not independent testing. Xbox 360 emulation and a separate project for Windows games have been demonstrated, but neither had a public release in the October 3, 2026 report.
What works on a modded PS5 right now?
The most usable of the three projects is XPSemu, a PS5 port of xemu, the open-source emulator for the original Microsoft Xbox. VideoCardz reported on October 3, 2026, that its public Alpha 1 build boots some games on jailbroken PS5 systems. That is a limited but real milestone: it does not mean every original Xbox game works, or that supported games run smoothly.
According to VideoCardz, XPSemu runs as a PS5 application. Its port reportedly uses QEMU’s TCG JIT for Xbox CPU emulation, while graphics go through xemu’s Vulkan backend and the open-source RADV driver available for PS5. The report describes an Xbox-style interface, per-game settings, patches, performance monitoring, and internal-resolution scaling from 1× to 4×. These are descriptions of the PS5 port as reported by VideoCardz, not independently verified feature tests.
How well do original Xbox games run?
The reported results are uneven. The following figures and observations were attributed to the XPSemu developer by VideoCardz; they are examples, not a complete compatibility survey or independent benchmarks.

| Original Xbox game | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Halo 2 | 30 FPS at stock settings; 36–50 FPS during gameplay with a 60 FPS patch. |
| Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex | Reported to run smoothly; no frame-rate figure was supplied. |
| Forza Motorsport | 15–21 FPS while racing. |
| Fable: The Lost Chapters | 22–30 FPS in many areas and 10–20 FPS in heavier scenes. |
The developer also reportedly observed the emulated Xbox CPU thread using 85%–97% of its assigned PS5 CPU time while the GPU remained mostly idle. VideoCardz says increasing internal resolution to 3× or 4× had little effect on performance in many games. Neither observation establishes how other games will behave.
Original Xbox, Xbox 360 and Windows games are at different stages
| What the project targets | Status in the October 3, 2026 report | Public evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Original Xbox through XPSemu | Public Alpha 1 build | Reported to boot some games; selected developer-reported results are available, but the report gives no complete compatibility list. |
| Xbox 360 | Early emulator demonstrated running on PS5 | BrinoBlitz reportedly said bugs remained before release. No public build or compatibility list was reported. |
| Windows games through PP, also called PS5 Proton | Separate project demonstrated | Intended to run Windows games directly on jailbroken PS5 systems rather than requiring Linux first. No public build or repository, and no compatibility or performance data, were reported. |
These are distinct efforts, not three generations supported by one released emulator. In particular, XPSemu targets the original Xbox; it is not the Xbox 360 project.

What xemu’s features do—and do not—tell you about XPSemu
The xemu project site describes the original Xbox emulator for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It lists controller support, save states, and the ability to raise render resolution from 480p to 1080p. Those are xemu-wide statements; they do not confirm that every feature works the same way in the PS5 port.
The xemu site also says its compatibility reports are submitted by volunteers based on their experience with a current version on their own computers. That is useful context for the upstream emulator, but it is not a compatibility record for XPSemu on PS5.

Why PS5 firmware matters
Jailbreaking is a prerequisite for the reported PS5 emulator work. VideoCardz said recent jailbreak developments followed jailbreaks for PS5 firmware 13.6, and that Sony had released another firmware update the day before its October 3 report. The outlet advised people seeking to preserve the option of jailbreaking to wait while the newer firmware was examined.
This is a time-sensitive warning, not a verified compatibility chart. The report does not establish which console models or firmware versions can run XPSemu, nor does it provide a complete update, downgrade, or purchase guide. Check current, reliable project information for your exact console and firmware before making changes; do not assume a newly purchased PS5 is jailbreak-ready.

What to take away before trying it
- For original Xbox games: XPSemu Alpha 1 is the only one of these efforts reported as publicly available. It boots some games, with performance varying by title.
- For Xbox 360 games: the emulator was shown in an early state, but no public build or compatibility list was reported.
- For Windows games: PP/PS5 Proton was a demonstration, not a publicly available general-purpose option; compatibility and performance were unknown.
- For firmware decisions: eligibility is not fully documented in the report, and updates may affect jailbreak options. Confirm current compatibility rather than acting on a broad claim.
Jailbreaks can enable homebrew, open-source software, and alternative operating systems as well as emulation. The reporting cited here does not provide jurisdiction-specific legal analysis, so it cannot establish whether a particular setup or use is lawful where you live.
