Xbox Game Pass works with VR hardware in two very different ways. On a supported Meta Quest headset, Xbox Cloud Gaming puts ordinary Xbox games on a large virtual screen. Separately, some Windows PC games in or associated with Game Pass have genuine stereoscopic VR modes. Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One do not have a broad native console-VR game library.
That distinction matters: a cloud-streamed game can be excellent on a cinema-sized display, but it does not provide headset tracking, room-scale interaction or motion-controlled gameplay inside the game world.
What “VR on Xbox Game Pass” actually means
Xbox Cloud Gaming on Meta Quest
Xbox officially supports cloud gaming on Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro. The game runs on Xbox servers and the headset shows it on a large virtual screen; it is generally not stereoscopic VR. Most cloud-playable titles require an active Game Pass subscription, although select games you own may also be streamable when eligible. Native PC VR through Game Pass or related PC access
Here the game itself must include a PC VR mode. You need a VR-capable Windows PC, a compatible headset, headset software and, depending on the title, OpenXR or SteamVR. Game Pass availability on Windows does not make the Xbox-console edition VR-compatible, and it does not guarantee that Quest motion controllers are supported.

Xbox console VR
Do not read the Quest cloud feature as an Xbox-console VR platform. Xbox’s official offering promotes streaming to a supported headset rather than a native VR ecosystem comparable with PC VR, PlayStation VR2 or standalone Quest software.

Native VR games to investigate
Star Wars: Squadrons — verified native-VR example, but not a current Game Pass guarantee
The official Steam listing says the entire game can be played in VR and identifies VR support. It also requires an EA account and supports conventional controls; headset motion controllers alone are not implied. Check the current Game Pass plan, Windows edition, launcher route and region before treating it as included. Steam listing.

Historical Game Pass-era leads, not a current catalog
A May 13, 2023 report associated these games with Game Pass-era VR availability: Microsoft Flight Simulator, Star Wars: Squadrons, F1 22, Hitman: World of Assassination and No Man’s Sky. That article is historical evidence, not proof that every title is included in your plan or region now. Verify each live Xbox or Microsoft Store listing before downloading. The 2023 report.

What to stream on a Quest virtual screen
Any cloud-eligible Game Pass game can be a candidate for this mode, including cinematic single-player adventures, RPGs, racing games and multiplayer titles. Choose games that benefit from a large private display. Label them cloud-screen gaming, not native VR: the image is still a conventional flat game, and latency or compression can be visible.
Equipment and requirements
For Xbox Cloud Gaming on Quest
- Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S or Quest Pro.
- An active Game Pass subscription for most cloud-playable games; plan and region affect eligibility.
- A compatible controller, such as an Xbox Wireless Controller or Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2.
- Reliable broadband. Xbox recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi and at least 20 Mbps for best performance, while noting that location, device and network conditions also matter.
For native PC VR
- A VR-ready Windows PC that meets the specific game’s requirements.
- A compatible headset and its PC software, connected by USB, DisplayPort or supported wireless networking.
- The OpenXR or SteamVR runtime required by that title.
- The correct input device: gamepad, motion controllers, keyboard and mouse, racing wheel or flight stick.
How to verify a game before calling it “VR”
- Open the current Xbox or Microsoft Store page.
- Confirm the exact edition and platform: Xbox console, Windows PC or cloud.
- Look for explicit VR, OpenXR or SteamVR language from the publisher or store.
- Check minimum and recommended PC specifications.
- Determine whether support is native, mod-based or only a virtual-screen presentation.
- Confirm inclusion in your Game Pass plan and country; catalog membership changes.
- Check for EA, Steam or another publisher launcher and account requirement.
- Confirm the required controller before installing.
Words such as “immersive,” “3D,” “first-person,” “cockpit” or “motion controls” are not proof of VR support.

Setup guides
Quest cloud gaming
- Update the Quest headset and Meta software.
- Pair a compatible Xbox controller with the headset.
- Open the Xbox app or the supported Xbox cloud-gaming route on Quest; labels can change as the software is updated.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account linked to Game Pass.
- Select a cloud-playable game and launch it on the virtual screen.
- If a title is missing, check plan, region, cloud eligibility and service status before troubleshooting the headset.
Native PC VR
- Install the Windows Xbox app and the eligible PC game.
- Install the headset’s PC software and connect the headset.
- Set the required OpenXR or SteamVR runtime.
- Start the runtime before launching the game.
- Enable VR in the game’s settings or launch options.
- Choose the intended controller and test seated play first.
- If performance is unstable, reduce render resolution before changing multiple variables.
Troubleshooting
The game opens in flat-screen mode
- The title may have no native VR mode, or the installed edition may differ.
- VR may require an in-game toggle or launch option.
- OpenXR or SteamVR may be closed or assigned as the wrong runtime.
- Connect the headset and start its runtime before restarting the game.
- Do not assume a community mod is supported by the Game Pass edition.
The Quest stream is blurry or laggy
- Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi and approach Xbox’s 20 Mbps minimum guidance.
- Reduce congestion from other devices and check cloud-server distance or service load.
- Remember that bandwidth alone cannot remove latency caused by routing or location.
Controllers do not work
- Many cloud games expect an Xbox-style gamepad.
- Native PC titles may require a wheel, flight stick, keyboard and mouse or specific motion controllers.
- Pair the controller to the correct device and check the game’s input documentation.
The game has left Game Pass
Catalogs change by date, country, plan and platform. Record the date checked, region, subscription tier, edition, VR classification and whether the game is included, discounted or merely streamable when owned.

Which experience should you choose?
- Choose native PC VR if you want stereoscopic immersion, tracked movement and VR-specific rendering, and you have a capable PC and patience for runtime setup.
- Choose Quest cloud gaming if you want a simple giant-screen experience, already own a Quest and controller, or do not have a gaming PC.
- Do not use cloud gaming as a substitute for native VR if you need room-scale interaction, motion controls or very low latency.
- Do not buy Game Pass for native VR alone until a specific Windows title, edition and plan are confirmed in your region.
