A buyer said a second-hand AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D led to a Valorant hardware-ban problem after they installed the processor and launched the game. The account, relayed in an XDA Developers report, says Riot Support identified the CPU as blacklisted because of a previous owner’s alleged cheating. The account has not been independently verified, and the available sources do not establish how Vanguard identified the processor or confirm the full scope of the reported blacklist.
What reportedly happened
According to an XDA Developers report indexed by KhanList, a user of the German PCBaumeister subreddit, After-Cartoonist-196, said they bought a used Ryzen 7 5800X3D through classifieds. The processor reportedly worked normally, but the buyer said Valorant removed them when they launched the game after installing it. The incident details are the buyer’s account as relayed by the report, not independently verified findings. XDA Developers report indexed by KhanList
The report says the buyer contacted Riot and was told that the CPU had been blacklisted following a hardware ban on August 12, reportedly associated with the previous owner cheating. The surfaced account does not give a year for that date. The buyer also reportedly said Riot identified a motherboard and hard drive as blacklisted, but that broader claim is not independently confirmed by an official Riot source in the material available.
What the story does—and does not—establish
- Reported: A used AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D was involved, and its buyer said Valorant removed them after they installed it and launched the game.
- Reported, not independently confirmed: Riot Support allegedly connected the CPU to a previous owner’s hardware ban and identified other components as blacklisted.
- Unexplained: The sources do not identify the hardware identifier or technical method Vanguard used. They do not establish that a CPU serial number was the mechanism.
- Not established: The available sources do not confirm the scope of any component flags, an appeal outcome, or a remedy from Riot.
A NeoGAF repost repeats the account but is not independent or official corroboration; its discussion also says the identification method is unclear. Speculation in that thread is not evidence of how Vanguard works. NeoGAF repost

What to do if a used part appears linked to a restriction
- Keep the evidence together. Save the purchase listing, seller messages, proof of purchase, the game’s restriction notice, and any Riot Support response. These records can help clarify what was reported and when.
- Ask Riot Support to clarify the restriction. Use Riot’s official support channel and request the specific restriction type, its scope, and any available appeal process. Do not treat an online repost or another player’s account as confirmation of your own case.
- Wait for an official answer before replacing hardware. The account does not establish that replacing a CPU, motherboard, drive, or entire PC resolves a restriction, and it does not document an official replacement recommendation.
Does this mean used CPUs are unsafe for Valorant?
No broad conclusion follows from one reported incident. The story does not show that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D model causes bans, or that used CPUs generally carry this specific risk. It describes one buyer’s account of a restriction after installing one second-hand processor; the method and outcome remain unclear in the sources reviewed.
