To get better at Abyssus, learn to read encounters, stay mobile while attacking, and choose weapons and powers you can use comfortably. It is a one-to-four-player FPS roguelite built around loadouts, combat and powers, so early success does not depend on finding one supposedly perfect build. The advice below focuses on decisions you can make with whatever a run offers.
What to focus on in your first runs
Abyssus combines fast-paced shooting with roguelite runs in a brinepunk setting. Its official descriptions emphasize choosing a loadout, fighting a sunken civilization’s corrupted inhabitants, and wielding powers. That makes each encounter a chance to practice both combat fundamentals and adapting to available choices (Steam store listing; Steam community description).
Rather than chase a particular build, make one improvement your goal for a run: spot threats sooner, aim more consistently, avoid taking avoidable damage, or make a more deliberate weapon or upgrade choice. This is a practical learning approach, not a guaranteed progression mechanic or a developer-prescribed strategy.
How to choose a weapon you can handle
There is no source-backed universal best beginner weapon. Compare the options you actually have by how they feel in an encounter, not just by a perceived damage ranking.
#1 Best Overall
- The next-generation optical HERO sensor delivers incredible performance and up to 10x the power efficiency over previous generations, with 400 IPS precision and up to 12,000 DPI sensitivity
- Ultra-fast LIGHTSPEED wireless technology gives you a lag-free gaming experience, delivering incredible responsiveness and reliability with 1 ms report rate for competition-level performance
- G305 wireless mouse boasts an incredible 250 hours of continuous gameplay on just 1 AA battery; switch to Endurance mode via Logitech G HUB software and extend battery life up to 9 months
- Wireless does not have to mean heavy, G305 lightweight mouse provides high maneuverability coming in at only 3.4 oz thanks to efficient lightweight mechanical design and ultra-efficient battery usage
- The durable, compact design with built-in nano receiver storage makes G305 not just a great portable desktop mouse, but also a great laptop travel companion, use with a gaming laptop and play anywhere
- Firing rhythm: Can you land shots at the weapon’s pace while tracking threats?
- Range: Does it feel manageable at the distances where you tend to fight?
- Commitment: How does its firing and reload rhythm fit with the need to reposition?
- Extra mechanics: If it has distinct primary and secondary functions, can you use both without losing awareness of the fight?
- Comfort under pressure: Can you keep aiming and moving with it when several threats are present?
These are comparison questions, not an official ranking. A PC Gamer report on the March 2026 update described the harpoon gun as slow-firing and heavy-hitting, with primary fire building a combo-point gauge and secondary fire spending it on a high-damage attack. That dated account illustrates how a weapon’s handling and mechanics can shape its use; it is not a current balance recommendation (PC Gamer, March 7, 2026).
Move with purpose during fights
Practice attacking while moving, and avoid standing still when threats converge. Deliberate movement gives you a better chance to keep track of what is happening and avoid preventable hits. Treat this as general FPS guidance rather than a claim about a specific Abyssus dash, jump, fall-damage rule, or invulnerability window; the available sources do not establish those mechanics.

- HERO Gaming Sensor: Next generation HERO mouse sensor delivers precision tracking up to 25600 DPI with zero smoothing, filtering or acceleration
- 11 programmable buttons and dual mode hyper-fast scroll wheel: The Logitech wired gaming mouse gives you fully customizable control over your gameplay
- Adjustable weights: Match your playing style. Arrange up to five 3.6 g weights for a personalized weight and balance configuration
- LIGHTSYNC technology: Logitech G LIGHTSYNC technology provides fully customizable RGB lighting that can also synchronize with your gaming (requires Logitech Gaming Software)
- Mechanical Switch Button Tensioning: A metal spring tensioning system and metal pivot hinges are built into left and right computer gaming mouse buttons for a crisp, clean click feel with rapid click feedback
If you are being overwhelmed, change one thing at a time: reposition before committing to shots, pay attention to which threat is creating the most immediate pressure, or choose a safer moment to use a weapon’s more involved attack. The point is to make your next decision more intentional, not to follow a fixed sequence that every encounter requires.
Adapt powers and upgrades to the run
The game’s official descriptions establish that powers are part of its combat and that players choose loadouts, but they do not establish a definitive beginner build or upgrade priority. Read each available choice for what it does, then consider whether it complements the weapon and approach you are already using. Avoid assuming an online “best build” will appear in your run or suit your handling preferences.

- Next-gen 12,000 DPI HERO optical sensor delivers unrivaled gaming performance, accuracy and power efficiency
- Advanced LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse for super-fast 1 ms response time and faster than wired performance
- Ultra-long battery life gives you up to 250 hours of continuous gaming on a single AA battery
- Lightweight mechanical design and classic shape for maximum maneuverability, durability and comfort
- Compact, portable design with convenient built-in storage for included USB wireless receiver
When a choice is unclear, favor understanding its effect over trying to force a build from memory. Notice what changes in your next encounter and whether it helps you deal with the threats you are facing. This keeps decisions tied to the run in front of you instead of an unsupported universal tier list.
Use failed runs as focused practice
After a difficult encounter or run, review one decision rather than judging the whole attempt as a failure. Ask whether a different target, movement choice, weapon commitment, or upgrade would plausibly have changed what happened. Keep the question specific enough to try a different approach next time.

This is a way to learn from play, not a promise that any particular adjustment will guarantee a win.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you play solo or in co-op?
Abyssus supports one to four players according to its Steam listing. Solo is a valid way to play, but it may feel demanding: PC Gamer’s reviewer described solo play as considerably more challenging in their experience. That is one reviewer’s impression, not a universal difficulty rule or a guarantee that co-op will suit every player (Steam store listing; PC Gamer, March 7, 2026).

- Pentakill, 5 DPI Levels - Geared with 5 redefinable DPI levels (default as: 500/1000/2000/3000/4000), easy to switch between different game needs. Dedicated demand of DPI options between 500-8000 is also available to be processed by software.
- Any Button is Reassignable - 11 programmable buttons are all editable with customizable tactical keybinds in whatever game or work you are engaging. 1 rapid fire + 2 side macro buttons offer you a better gaming and working experience.
- Comfort Grip with Details - The skin-friendly frosted coating is the main comfort grip of the mouse surface, which offers you the most enjoyable fingerprint-free tactility. The left side equipped with rubber texture strengthened the friction and made the mouse easier to control.
- 5 Decent Backlit Modes - Turn the backlit on and make some kills in your gaming battlefield. The hyped dynamic RGB backlit vibe will never let you down when decorating your gaming space, it would be better with other Redragon accessories with lights on.
- Fatigue Killer with Ergonomic Design - Solid frame with a streamlined and general claw-grip design offers a satisfying and comfortable gaming experience with less fatigue even though after hours of use.
If you play solo, concentrate on reading threats and making clear, manageable choices. In co-op, use the extra players as a reason to stay aware of the encounter rather than assuming that more players remove the need to aim, move, or adapt.
Keep patch changes in mind
Weapon availability and balance advice can age as the game changes. PC Gamer’s March 7, 2026 coverage discussed update 1.2, while the official Steam community page includes a version 1.3 update announcement and a hotfix post for version 1.3.62817 dated August 19 (PC Gamer; Abyssus Steam community news). Check the live game and the relevant platform for the version you are playing before relying on a weapon-specific tip.
