Acer announced the Nitro Blaze 7 (GN771) on September 4, 2024, as its first handheld gaming PC. It combines Windows 11 Home, AMD’s Ryzen 7 8840HS and Radeon 780M integrated graphics with a 7-inch 1080p display that can refresh at up to 144Hz. The hardware is credible, but it is not a new performance class—and its value depends on regional price, stock and battery expectations.
Acer’s UK store listed a 1TB version at £649.99 on August 16, 2026, while the Spanish store showed that model out of stock. Acer did not publish a universal launch price or date, and no confirmed US Acer-store price was established.
What Acer announced
The Nitro Blaze 7 is a compact Windows gaming computer under Acer’s Nitro brand. Its September 4, 2024 announcement describes Acer Game Space, a launcher intended to gather games from different PC storefronts in one interface. Acer also advertised three months of PC Game Pass, although redemption rules and eligibility can vary by market and retailer.

These figures come from Acer’s announcement. Acer’s separate IFA specification sheet lists a 10W–30W TDP range and warns that specifications can vary by model or region.
Why the 144Hz screen matters—and where it does not
A 144Hz panel can make menus, desktop scrolling and games that sustain high frame rates feel smoother. It is particularly useful for older games, esports titles and lighter indie software. FreeSync can also help reduce tearing when frame rates fluctuate, provided the final regional model and driver support it correctly.
It does not mean demanding new games will run at 144 frames per second. The Radeon 780M is integrated graphics sharing system memory, and rendering at 1920×1080 costs more than rendering at a lower resolution. Players may need reduced settings, a frame-rate cap or Radeon Super Resolution/FSR upscaling. Those techniques can improve perceived smoothness while trading away some image detail.

What performance to expect
The Ryzen 7 8840HS is an eight-core Zen 4 mobile processor with Radeon 780M graphics and an NPU. Conventional CPU and GPU performance determines game frame rates; the NPU and Acer’s AI-TOPS figure are for supported AI workloads and do not automatically accelerate games. AMD’s processor reference specifications are documented in its Ryzen 8040 guide.
Two handhelds with the same processor can perform differently. Power limits, cooling, firmware, memory behavior, drivers and each game’s settings all matter. The available launch coverage was preview reporting rather than standardized long-term benchmark testing, so a definitive ranking against the ROG Ally or Legion Go would be unjustified.
Battery, charging and portability
The 50.04Wh battery is larger than the original ROG Ally’s battery on paper but far smaller than the ROG Ally X’s 80Wh pack. A 1080p, 144Hz display can also consume more power than a lower-resolution, lower-refresh panel. Acer’s UK listing gives a manufacturer-estimated maximum runtime of 2.5 hours; that is not a standardized gaming test.

Actual endurance depends on TDP mode, brightness, refresh rate, frame caps, Wi-Fi, game workload, upscaling and Windows background activity. At approximately 670g, the Blaze 7 is lighter and more compact than large-screen designs, but it is best described as bag-portable rather than pocket-sized. The included 65W USB-C adapter is appropriate for charging, and a USB-C power bank must support suitable USB Power Delivery output.
Acer Game Space and Windows usability
Game Space is meant to provide a controller-friendly library across multiple launchers. Windows remains the underlying desktop operating system, so users retain broad compatibility but may encounter small touch targets, sign-in prompts, launcher updates, on-screen keyboard work and occasional sleep/resume or driver-management friction. Those are common Windows-handheld trade-offs, not established Acer-specific defects.
The touchscreen, fingerprint power button and dedicated menu/view controls reduce some desktop friction. For extended desktop work, a dock, mouse or keyboard is still more practical than relying solely on the built-in controls.

Component similarity does not establish equal performance. Matched testing would need the same power level, game version, resolution, settings, firmware and drivers.
Price and availability by region
Acer’s 2024 announcement did not include a universal price or release date. On August 16, 2026, Acer’s UK store listed a 1TB GN771 at £649.99: UK product page. Acer Spain showed the 1TB model out of stock: Spain product page. No confirmed US Acer-store price or active US listing was established.

Before buying, verify the exact regional SKU, SSD capacity, wireless specification, bundled promotions, charger, warranty and return policy. Acer explicitly notes that specifications can vary by model or region.
Who should consider the Nitro Blaze 7?
It makes sense when you want
- A small Windows PC that can run several game launchers.
- A 1080p, high-refresh display for lighter games and desktop use.
- Two USB4 ports for docks, displays, storage and accessories.
- Up to 2TB of storage and microSD expansion.
- A relatively light 670g design at a substantial discount.
Look elsewhere when you need
- Long unplugged gaming sessions.
- A polished, console-first interface with minimal Windows maintenance.
- More than 16GB of memory; the LPDDR5X is onboard and not a conventional user-upgradeable module.
- OLED contrast, a larger display or detachable controllers.
- Guaranteed US availability and straightforward local warranty support.
- The newest handheld silicon rather than an older Ryzen 8040/Radeon 780M platform.
Verdict
The Nitro Blaze 7 is an interesting but price-sensitive entrant. Its 144Hz 1080p screen, dual USB4 ports, Windows compatibility and up-to-2TB storage are meaningful advantages. The 16GB fixed memory, 50.04Wh battery and uncertain regional availability limit its long-term appeal, while the Ryzen 7 8840HS platform is broadly comparable to existing AMD handheld hardware rather than a generational breakthrough.
At the right discounted regional price, it can be a sensible Windows handheld. At a premium close to newer devices with larger batteries or newer processors, the case is much weaker.
