“The program can’t start because acexpldb.dll is missing from your computer.”
acexpldb.dll is an application DLL associated with the ArCon family of architectural, interior-design, kitchen-design, and home-planning software. It is not a normal Windows component, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, or graphics-driver DLL.
Which fix applies to you
Use the path that matches what you see:
- The error appeared after uninstalling, updating, or moving ArCon: repair or reinstall the exact ArCon-derived program.
- Windows Security recently detected or quarantined the file: check Protection history, then reinstall from trusted installation media if necessary.
- The file exists, but Windows says “specified module could not be found”: a dependency, not necessarily
acexpldb.dllitself, may be missing. - The program starts but crashes while loading objects or textures: investigate graphics compatibility and drivers.
- Several Windows applications are also failing: run DISM and System File Checker.
- The problem began immediately after a system or driver change: consider System Restore.
Do not begin by copying a random DLL into System32. The correct repair is to restore the parent application and its matching files.
What is acexpldb.dll
Public file records describe acexpldb.dll as an old object-and-texture catalog component, also indexed under the alternate name acDbExpl.dll. ArCon product inventories place it beside other private application files, including visualization, catalog, control, and shape components.

That tells you where the repair belongs: inside the affected ArCon application folder, not in a Windows system directory.
Several ArCon-family products have been associated with this file, including ArCon 3D Architect, ArCon Developer, ArCon 3D Kitchen Designer, Grand Designs 3D, and related design applications. The filename alone cannot identify the exact edition installed on your computer.
Public indexes also disagree about technical metadata such as version and architecture. Treat those records as identification clues, not as an official file manifest. The safest replacement is the copy supplied with your exact product release.
Fix 1: Repair the ArCon application
Windows can expose a repair option for applications installed through a supported installer.

Windows 11
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the ArCon, Eleco, Grand Designs, or related design application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and launch the program again.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Apps & features.
- Select the affected ArCon-family program.
- Choose Advanced options, if shown.
- Select Repair.
If there is no Repair button:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Repair or Change.
The wording depends on the installer. Follow the repair wizard, then restart the computer.
A successful repair normally means the original application launches without the missing-DLL message. If the error remains, the installer may not contain all files, or the installation may be too damaged for an in-place repair.
Fix 2: Reinstall the exact product
Reinstalling the parent program is the most reliable fix when acexpldb.dll was deleted, damaged, or never installed correctly.

Before uninstalling, back up your project files, custom catalogs, templates, and any settings stored outside the program directory.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Locate the affected ArCon-family application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall using the original disc, archived installer, or an authorized download supplied by the current ArCon vendor or original distributor.
- Run the installer with administrator rights if required. Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
- Launch the application once the installation completes.
Current vendor downloads are distributed as product updates and patches rather than as standalone acexpldb.dll packages. Match the update to the installed product edition. Do not mix files from different ArCon releases.
If the installer offers a custom destination, use the original application location unless the vendor documentation says otherwise.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove an old application DLL if its behavior or packaging resembles unwanted software. A quarantine event does not prove that the file is malicious, and it does not prove that it is safe.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any entry referring to the ArCon installation or
acexpldb.dll. - Check the detected file path and source.
Restore the file only if it came from the original installer or a known-good installation and you have confirmed that the detection is a false positive. Microsoft warns that allowing an unsafe file can expose the computer.

The safer approach is usually to reinstall the application, then submit the installer or detection details to the antivirus vendor if you believe it was incorrectly blocked. Avoid permanently disabling protection just to force an old DLL to load.
Fix 4: Do not use System32, SysWOW64, or regsvr32
acexpldb.dll is an application component. It normally belongs in the affected program’s own directory.

Do not copy it into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64
These are architecture-specific Windows locations, not general-purpose storage for application DLLs. Putting a private application file there can hide the real problem and create conflicts with other software.
Also, do not run:
regsvr32 acexpldb.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide the registration entry points expected by Windows, commonly ActiveX controls and other COM components. There is no verified evidence that acexpldb.dll is such a component. A “registration failed” message does not repair a missing application installation.

Fix 5: Resolve “specified module could not be found”
This message can appear even when acexpldb.dll is visible in the program folder. Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by that DLL.
First, reinstall or repair the entire ArCon application. That restores the complete group of private DLLs and avoids guessing at dependencies.
Also check the architecture. Public metadata commonly identifies this legacy component as a 32-bit DLL, but public records are inconsistent and do not replace the product’s own installer. A 64-bit process cannot load a 32-bit DLL in the same way a 32-bit process cannot load a 64-bit DLL. Do not substitute a similarly named file from another release.
Only install a Microsoft runtime when the error or installer identifies it. The official Visual C++ Redistributable packages include separate x86 and x64 installers. A legacy DirectX component may also be required by an older design application, but neither runtime is the source of acexpldb.dll.

Installing runtimes blindly is not a substitute for repairing ArCon.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components when other apps are affected
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate a private ArCon DLL removed from an application folder.
Use them when Windows itself is showing broader corruption symptoms, or when application repair has failed and other programs are also malfunctioning.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the ArCon application again.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the program after restarting. If it reports that it could not repair everything, repeat the repair only according to Microsoft’s guidance rather than repeatedly copying DLLs from another computer.

Windows Update is a compatibility step, not the primary treatment for this file.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart the computer.
If ArCon launches but crashes when opening the object catalog, displaying textures, or entering design mode, the problem may involve old graphics or DirectX behavior rather than a missing DLL.

Do not replace the DLL when the failure occurs only during rendering. Check the program’s compatibility settings and any hardware-acceleration option documented for that legacy ArCon release.

Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change
If the error began immediately after a driver installation, cleanup utility, update, or other system change, System Restore may return Windows to an earlier restore point.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure began.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not replace a proper application reinstall. Back up current work first, and remember that restoring Windows does not necessarily restore personal project files.

There is no verified official standalone download for acexpldb.dll. Do not use random DLL download sites websites. A downloaded copy may contain malware, belong to another ArCon release, use the wrong architecture, or leave the missing dependency untouched.
Use the original installation media, a known-good backup of the same product release, or the current ArCon vendor’s official support and download channel. Keep the installer with your project backups, avoid moving the program folder manually, and allow product updates to finish before launching the application.

Should I download the DLL separately?
No. Restore it through repair or reinstallation of the exact application. A standalone copy is difficult to authenticate and may be incompatible.
