What is Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp?
Released for Nintendo Switch on April 21, 2023, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp brings together rebuilt versions of the first two Advance Wars games originally released for Game Boy Advance. Nintendo describes them as rebuilt from the ground up and highlights the option to challenge friends online. Nintendo’s official game page confirms the Switch release and product identity.
What do the reviews say?
The critical response is positive overall. Metacritic displayed an 83 Metascore based on 100 critic reviews when accessed October 7, 2026; its displayed distribution was 91% positive, 9% mixed, and 0% negative. Nintendo Life awarded the game 9/10 in its 2023 review roundup. Its review identifies the finely balanced, challenging tactical gameplay as the package’s lasting strength, while praising the polished remake and its modern conveniences. What has changed in the remake?
The familiar strategy has been presented with a new toy-like art style, animations, cutscenes, a remastered soundtrack, and voice acting. The makeover is more than a visual refresh: the review also points to modern conveniences and online play. Whether the presentation is an upgrade for you depends on your taste; the brightly stylized look may not suit everyone seeking a more restrained or modern-feeling aesthetic.
How much is there to play?
The package includes two campaign stories, alongside War Room maps, CPU battles, and Versus Mode. The review also describes earning coins to unlock COs (Commanding Officers). These modes give players more ways to engage with the tactics beyond the campaign, though the available review material does not establish an exact playtime.

Who should play it?
Good fit: fans of turn-based tactical battles
If you enjoy planning moves, adapting to a challenge, and replaying tactical scenarios, the enduring gameplay is the strongest reason to choose this collection. The two campaigns and additional modes make it a substantial-feeling package without needing the remake’s presentation to be the main attraction.
Good fit: newcomers curious about Advance Wars
The Switch collection offers a way to experience two foundational series entries together, with refreshed presentation and the option to play against friends online. The positive critic response is encouraging, but a review aggregate cannot determine whether its particular style or tactical rhythm will suit you.

Think twice if art direction is a deciding factor
The remake’s toy-like visuals are the clearest potential dividing line in the reviewed material. If that look puts you off, strong reviews may not change your reaction; consider whether the underlying tactical battles matter more to you than the new presentation.
