It was a company-reported milestone from that period, not a current player count or an independently audited total.
What the 3.5 million figure means
GamesBeat reported the milestone on July 21, 2022, quoting Onlife CEO Ryan Mullins: “So we’re now at 3.5 million monthly active players. It’s been a pretty incredible two months.” GamesBeat’s headline used “active users,” while Mullins’s statement specified monthly active players. The distinction matters: the figure described activity during a month, not the number of people who had ever tried the game.
GamesBeat marked its article as updated June 18, 2025, but the update does not change the date of the milestone. The 3.5 million total belongs to 2022; the cited reporting does not establish Aglet’s current player count or operating status. GamesBeat’s July 21, 2022 report relayed figures from the company rather than an independent audit.
How Aglet connected sneakers to walking
Aglet’s reported game loop paired virtual sneaker collecting with movement in the physical world. Players walked to earn in-game points or currency, explored a map, and could discover location-based treasure stashes. Virtual shoes wore down, and the 2022 description included geo-fenced real-world stations where players could clean or repair them. These details describe the game as reported at the time, not a guarantee of features available today.

Aglet also unveiled the Aglet One, a physical sneaker associated with a specially minted NFT for purchasers, according to GamesBeat. A July 12, 2022 Fashion Tech News interview with Mullins reported that the shoe sold out quickly. Neither account establishes whether the Aglet One is available now, or its current price or resale value.
The 2022 coverage also mentioned in-game goods from brands including Adidas and Gucci. That establishes historical brand context for Aglet’s game, not current partnerships, product offerings, or affiliate-program availability.
