If AI LIMIT crashes on a Windows PC, start with reversible checks: verify the Steam files, restart the PC, update the graphics driver, reset the game’s display settings if needed, and temporarily disable overlays. Match the fix to the symptom: a crash to desktop is different from a black screen or a full PC shutdown. Steam lists a developer/publisher notice specifically about crashes and black screens on high-end GPUs, but its instructions should be followed only as shown in the official Steam announcement; don’t substitute guessed launch commands or settings for it.
Identify what kind of crash you have
| What happens | First areas to check |
|---|---|
| The game never opens or closes immediately | Game files, graphics driver, Windows runtime, hardware compatibility, or damaged settings. |
| It closes after the logo or while loading | Driver, graphics API, shader cache, or configuration. |
| The screen goes black but audio continues | Display mode or resolution, driver timeout, or an overlay conflict. |
| It crashes in a particular area or cutscene | A title-specific rendering issue, shader compilation, or VRAM pressure. |
| It crashes after several minutes | Temperature, power delivery, driver stability, or an unstable overclock or undervolt. |
| The PC reboots or powers off | System stability, cooling, power supply, RAM, GPU, or motherboard. Treat this as more than a game crash. |
| It happens only on a PC with Intel AI Boost | Try the targeted Intel AI Boost check below; it is not a confirmed universal fix for AI LIMIT. |
Check whether your PC meets the requirements
The Steam listing specifies Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 12 GB RAM, and an Nvidia GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD RX 580 8 GB as minimum requirements. It lists DirectX 11 and 30 GB of storage, with an SSD recommended. The recommended configuration is an Intel Core i7-9700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5500, 16 GB RAM, an Nvidia RTX 3060 or AMD RX 5700 XT, DirectX 12, and an SSD.
Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee stable performance. Integrated graphics, shared-memory GPUs, systems with less than the listed memory, and laptops running on battery may need lower settings. If the entire PC shuts down or restarts under load, investigate system stability rather than assuming the game’s graphics settings are the cause.
Try these eight fixes in order
1. Verify the game files in Steam
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click AI LIMIT and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the check to finish, restart Steam, and test the game.
Steam will replace files it finds missing or damaged. This can help after an interrupted download or update; it does not fix a graphics-driver problem, an unstable overclock, overheating, or settings stored outside the game installation.

2. Update—or roll back—the graphics driver
Get drivers from the GPU maker rather than a third-party driver-updater utility:
Install a stable driver for your graphics hardware, choose a clean-install option if the installer offers one, restart Windows, and test AI LIMIT before changing other software. If the problem started immediately after a driver update, try the previous stable driver instead. The available information does not establish that a specific driver version is defective for this game.
3. Reset the game’s graphics configuration safely
A bad resolution or display mode can leave the game black or crashing before you can reach its settings. Back up local settings and save data before changing files:
- Close AI LIMIT and Steam.
- In File Explorer, check the folders
%LOCALAPPDATA%,%APPDATA%, and%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowfor a folder named AI LIMIT, AILIMIT, Sense Games, or a related game or developer name. - If you find a likely configuration folder, copy it somewhere safe, then rename the original—for example, add
.backupto its name. Do not delete files you cannot identify. - Launch the game. It should create fresh settings if that was the configuration folder.
The Steam listing says the game supports Steam Cloud, but cloud synchronization is not a substitute for a local backup if settings or saves conflict.

4. Lower graphics load before loading a save
If the game opens but crashes during loading or play, reduce the rendering workload before attempting the same area again:
- Set resolution to 1920×1080 or lower.
- Try borderless-windowed mode if exclusive fullscreen gives a black screen.
- Set textures, shadows, effects, reflections, and post-processing to Low or Medium.
- Disable ray tracing or other advanced rendering options if the game exposes them.
- Cap the frame rate at 60 FPS and restart the game after changing settings.
This is a useful test for a GPU near the minimum specification or a card with limited VRAM. It is not a reliable remedy for a PC that reboots or powers off.
5. Disable overlays and monitoring tools temporarily
Close overlays and tools that hook into rendering, then run the game with Steam only. Check Steam Overlay, Discord Overlay, Nvidia App or GeForce overlay, AMD Adrenalin overlay, Xbox Game Bar, MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner Statistics Server, and recording, RGB, frame-generation, or hardware-monitoring utilities.
If the game becomes stable, turn these tools back on one at a time to find the conflict. You will temporarily lose features such as chat overlays, recording, or an FPS counter.

6. Test a graphics API only through a supported setting
Steam lists DirectX 11 as the minimum API and DirectX 12 in the recommended configuration. That does not confirm that AI LIMIT supports a particular launch parameter or that switching APIs will fix a crash.
- If the game has an in-game graphics API selector, test the other available option.
- Use a Steam launch option only if the developer documents it for this game.
- Do not assume commands such as
-dx11or-dx12work. If a documented option makes no difference, remove it rather than stacking more parameters.
7. Check Intel AI Boost only if your PC has it
Some users in Unreal Engine and Steam community discussions have reported crashes in Unreal-based applications associated with Intel AI Boost, and some reported improvement after disabling the device. Those reports are indirect and user-reported; they do not establish that AI Boost causes AI LIMIT crashes.
- Press Win + X and open Device Manager.
- Expand Neural processors.
- If Intel AI Boost appears, right-click it and select Disable device.
- Restart Windows and test the game. Re-enable the device if there is no improvement.
This device may not be present. Disabling it affects NPU workloads, not the normal graphics card. For an NPU driver, use Intel’s Intel NPU Driver for Windows page.
8. Return hardware tuning to stock and check stability
If crashes happen after sustained play, across multiple games, or alongside display loss or restarts, test the PC at default settings:

- Check that GPU power connectors are fully seated and monitor CPU and GPU temperatures under load.
- Test another demanding game. If it also crashes, suspect a system-level issue rather than an AI LIMIT-only problem.
- Update motherboard BIOS only by following the motherboard maker’s instructions.
Avoid registry changes such as increasing TdrDelay as a first-line fix. They can mask a driver or hardware problem without correcting its cause.
When a crash needs a different response
Game closes to the desktop
Start with file verification, a driver check, and the safe configuration reset. If the failure began after enabling an overlay or changing display settings, undo that change first.
Black screen or display-driver recovery
Test borderless-windowed mode, remove overlays, and lower the resolution. If you can select another graphics API inside the game, test it; do not rely on undocumented launch switches.
Blue screen, reboot, or power-off
Record the Windows stop code if there is a blue screen, and review the system’s crash information. Return tuning to stock, check temperatures and power connections, and test other demanding software. A sudden restart or power loss warrants checks of the PSU, cooling, RAM, GPU, and motherboard; reinstalling the game is unlikely to resolve that kind of instability.

If the basic fixes do not work
Before contacting support, collect details that help distinguish a game issue from a system one:
- The crash message, error code, or crash report text.
- The Windows Event Viewer entry from immediately after the failure, if available.
- GPU model and driver version, CPU, RAM amount, and Windows edition/build.
- Whether it happens at launch, during shader compilation, while loading, in a particular area, or after a period of play.
- Whether the game was in fullscreen or windowed mode and which graphics API was selected, if the game exposes that setting.
- Whether overlays, hardware tuning, or Intel AI Boost were enabled, and whether other games crash too.
