How their stories begin
Alan Wake 2: two journeys tied to a horror mystery
The story follows FBI agent Saga Anderson as she investigates murders in Bright Falls and writer Alan Wake as he tries to escape the Dark Place. Their journeys run in parallel and echo one another, according to Remedy’s announcement. Remedy Creative Director and Lead Writer Sam Lake called it “an intense story and a layered mystery that takes players on two disturbing journeys, running in parallel and echoing each other in strange and unexpected ways.” Remedy’s announcement
Control: a new Director enters a strange agency
You play as Jesse Faden, the new Director of a secretive agency invaded by an otherworldly threat. Remedy presents the game as an action-adventure in which supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts, and reactive environments are central to fighting through an unpredictable world. Remedy’s Control page
Does the connected universe mean you need to play one first?
No required order is stated on the official pages reviewed. Remedy says the CONTROL and Alan Wake franchises are linked through the Remedy Connected Universe; that relationship makes either game relevant to the broader setting, but does not make one a prerequisite for the other. Choose the genre you are more interested in rather than treating release order as a rule.
