Dell’s Alienware Area-51 could then be ordered with an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, GeForce RTX 5090, 64GB of memory and an 8TB SSD for a reported $7,599, including advertised discounts. However, that exact 64GB/8TB configuration should not be treated as current: Dell’s U.S. listing checked on August 18, 2026 showed a similar system with 64GB of memory, an RTX 5090 and 4TB of storage for $7,399.99.
The original report also contains a likely processor typo. Its headline and configuration identify the CPU as the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, while one passage calls it a Ryzen 7 9950X3D.
What was originally available?
Notebookcheck reported on January 29, 2026 that Dell was selling an Alienware Area-51 desktop, model family AAT2265, with this headline configuration:
- AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 with 32GB of GDDR7 memory
- 64GB of DDR5 RAM
- 8TB of SSD storage
- 1,500W power supply
- Liquid-cooled Alienware chassis
- Windows 11 Home
The reported price was $7,599, with advertised discounts already included. Notebookcheck described the system as orderable through Dell’s online store at the time. That confirms the original claim, but it does not prove that the same SKU remains available months later.

The Ryzen 7 reference in the article’s body appears to be an error: AMD’s 9950X3D product designation is Ryzen 9, and both the headline and Dell’s listings identify the processor as Ryzen 9. Read the original Notebookcheck report.
What Dell lists now in the United States
On August 18, 2026, Dell’s U.S. Area-51 pages showed three relevant configurations. Prices and inventory are subject to change, so the live configurator and checkout page remain the final authority.
| Configuration | Price | CPU | GPU | Memory | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base listing | $4,799.99 | Ryzen 7 9800X3D | RTX 5080, 16GB | 32GB | 1TB |
| Mid configuration | $6,249.99 | Ryzen 9 9950X3D | RTX 5090, 32GB | 32GB | 1TB |
| Higher configuration | $7,399.99 | Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 | RTX 5090, 32GB | 64GB | 4TB |
The current higher-end listing is therefore not a like-for-like replacement for the January system. It costs $199.01 less than the reported 8TB model, but it includes 4TB rather than 8TB and uses Dell’s newer “9950X3D2” designation. The inspected official page did not independently confirm that an 8TB option remained selectable.
Dell continues to show orderable Area-51 configurations, including systems with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and RTX 5090. “Orderable” does not necessarily mean immediate warehouse shipment; delivery dates depend on the buyer’s ZIP code, configuration and inventory.

Current top configuration: key hardware
Dell’s visible $7,399.99 configuration lists:
- CPU: Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, 16 cores, 208MB total cache and a listed 4.3GHz–5.6GHz clock range.
- GPU: GeForce RTX 5090 with 32GB of GDDR7 memory.
- Memory: 64GB of DDR5 XMP memory, configured as two 32GB modules at 6400 MT/s.
- Storage: 4TB TLC NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen5 SSD.
- Cooling: 360mm liquid cooling for the processor.
- Power: 1,500W Platinum-rated ATX12VO power supply.
- Operating system: Windows 11 Home.
The Area-51 has also been listed with up to 8TB of SSD storage. GamesRadar describes that capacity as two 4TB M.2 drives, but the current Dell configuration inspected here lists 4TB. Buyers who specifically need 8TB should confirm the number and capacity of the installed drives in the live configurator before paying.
How fast should it be for gaming?
An RTX 5090 Area-51 is aimed at uncompromised 4K gaming, particularly when ray tracing, high-resolution textures or demanding creator workloads are involved. The Ryzen 9 processor is also relevant to high-refresh-rate gaming, simulation and strategy games, streaming, compiling, editing and rendering.
Existing reviews provide useful context, but they do not establish exact performance for the Ryzen 9/64GB/8TB system reported in January. Tom’s Guide tested an Intel-based Area-51 with an RTX 5090 and 64GB of RAM, recording approximately 220–236 frames per second in Doom Eternal at 4K maximum settings with DLSS disabled, about 75–90 fps in Monster Hunter Wilds, and roughly 66–75 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 under its review conditions. GamesRadar reported about 56 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K Ultra with ray tracing and AI upscaling disabled, rising to around 110 fps when ray tracing was removed.

Those figures vary with the processor, game version, drivers, graphics settings and whether DLSS or frame generation is enabled. They should be treated as directional evidence, not a performance guarantee for Dell’s AMD configuration. At 4K, the RTX 5090 will often be the main limitation; at 1080p or very high refresh rates, CPU differences matter more.
For many games, the move from RTX 5080 to RTX 5090 has a more visible effect than a small CPU-tier change. The Ryzen 9 makes more sense when the same machine must handle CPU-heavy games and serious productivity work, rather than only conventional 4K gaming.
Large, cool and difficult to move
The Area-51’s size is a central buying consideration, not a minor specification. Tom’s Guide measured its review unit at 24.04 × 22.40 × 9.12 inches and 76.1 pounds. Dell recommends two people for moving it, and the reviewer suggested placing it on the floor because of its size and weight.
Measure desk depth, width and door clearance before ordering. Leave room around the top and rear vents, and make sure the desk or floor can safely support the chassis. Cable-management space also matters because the system uses a 1,500W power supply and has a large high-end GPU. Verify that the intended outlet and shared circuit are suitable for the expected electrical load; the existence of a 1,500W PSU does not by itself mean a dedicated circuit is required.

The 360mm liquid cooler and large enclosure are appropriate for a high-power CPU/GPU combination. Tom’s Guide reported quiet operation under load on its review system, but that is a result from a particular unit and test environment, not a universal guarantee.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Upgradeability: better than a compact prebuilt, but not fully standard
The Area-51 uses many industry-standard components and its spacious design should make access easier than on a small-form-factor desktop. That does not make every upgrade straightforward.
Reviews from Tom’s Guide and GamesRadar note that replacing the motherboard may require a roughly $35 AlienFX board-cable conversion kit to preserve lighting and related functionality. A non-ATX12VO motherboard may also require a different power supply. The ATX12VO arrangement can therefore complicate a future motherboard or PSU swap even when other components are conventional.
Storage expansion may be more practical than a complete platform replacement, but buyers should confirm the number of available M.2 slots, the existing drive layout and Dell’s support terms before planning an upgrade. “Many standard components” means more flexibility than a proprietary compact desktop—not the same freedom as selecting every part for a self-built ATX PC.

Is the Area-51 worth $7,399.99?
It can make sense for a buyer who wants an RTX 5090 immediately, prefers a factory-assembled system, values Dell support and Alienware’s design, and has room for a very large desktop. The 64GB configuration and high-end Ryzen processor also suit users combining gaming with editing, rendering, local AI workloads or other demanding applications.
The value case is weaker for buyers who prioritize maximum performance per dollar. A self-built or independently configured PC can provide more control over the case, motherboard, cooling, power supply, memory and storage, although it shifts assembly, troubleshooting and warranty responsibility to the owner.
Consider the lower Area-51 configuration if you do not need an RTX 5090. The listed Ryzen 7 9800X3D/RTX 5080 model costs $4,799.99 and may be a more proportionate choice for many 1440p and conventional 4K gaming setups. Conversely, the Area-51 is a poor fit for small desks, frequent transport or enthusiasts who require completely standard motherboard and power-supply compatibility.

The original claim was real: on January 29, 2026, an Alienware Area-51 with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB of RAM and 8TB of SSD storage was reported as orderable for $7,599. Dell’s current U.S. listing checked on August 18, 2026 shows a similar but different top configuration—Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, RTX 5090, 64GB and 4TB—for $7,399.99.
That makes the Area-51 a legitimate high-end prebuilt option, not proof that the original 8TB SKU is still available. If 8TB is essential, confirm it directly in Dell’s live configurator. If value, compactness or fully standard upgrade paths matter more than turnkey RTX 5090 performance, compare a custom-built system before committing.
