Yes. Dell’s U.S. store lists both the Alienware 16 Area-51 and Alienware 18 Area-51 with configurable purchase options. The models on sale are 2026 refreshes of the Area-51 laptops introduced in the prior generation—not the first return of the product line. Dell’s listings establish that the laptops can be ordered, but shipping timing and stock depend on the configuration you select.

When Dell’s pages were checked on August 18, 2026, its category page showed the 16-inch Area-51 starting at $3,249.99 and the 18-inch starting at $2,849.99. Those are observed starting prices, not permanent MSRP: product-page prices differed by configuration, and promotions or stock can change what appears.

What changed in the 2026 refresh?
Alienware’s CES 2026 announcement describes refreshed Area-51 16- and 18-inch laptops with Intel Core Ultra 200HX processors and RTX 50-series laptop graphics. The refreshed processor choices include Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus and Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus. Dell’s listings also show configurations using other Core Ultra chips, so the processor depends on the specific SKU.

The clearest new feature on the 16-inch model is an optional anti-glare OLED panel: 2560×1600 resolution at 240Hz. The 18-inch model offers 2560×1600 display configurations at up to 300Hz; one Dell listing specifies 500 nits, 100% DCI-P3 coverage, G-SYNC and Advanced Optimus. These specifications describe listed options, not every configuration.

The weights and power figures are Dell listing specifications, not measurements of every SKU; the power numbers are manufacturer claims stated as “up to.” Neither laptop is light by ordinary travel standards, and the listed weight does not include the power adapter. If you mostly play on an external monitor, the 18-inch screen may be less useful than its size and cost suggest.
How to choose a configuration
- Choose the GPU before judging the deal. Dell’s listings span different RTX 50-series tiers, including RTX 5060, 5070 and 5070 Ti examples. The Area-51 family name alone does not tell you which GPU a particular order includes. Higher-tier GPUs can substantially change price; compare the exact GPU and, where Dell specifies it, its power limit.
- Decide whether OLED matters to you. The anti-glare 240Hz OLED option is a 16-inch configuration feature, not a guarantee across the range. Confirm the display type in the selected configuration. For the 18-inch model, check the exact panel specifications rather than assuming every listing has the same refresh rate or color coverage.
- Set a memory and storage target. Dell’s examples include 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD, but configurations vary. For a premium gaming laptop intended to handle current games and multitasking, 32GB is a safer baseline than 16GB; a large game library or creative workload may also justify more storage.
- Review the details that affect daily use. Check keyboard type, operating-system edition, warranty and support tier, return terms, and the delivery estimate tied to the exact order. Dell may apply promotions only to selected configurations, and a price can change after you move from the category listing to a product or checkout page.
What reviews suggest about daily use
The reviewed 16-inch model is a high-power system best understood as a plugged-in gaming laptop, not an endurance machine. PC Gamer reports a 96Wh battery and measured 73 minutes in its gaming battery test; that is one publication’s result on its reviewed configuration, not a guaranteed runtime for every SKU or workload. Its Alienware 16 review also notes brief visible pauses when Advanced Optimus switches between integrated and discrete graphics. That observation may matter if your workflow frequently switches between everyday desktop use and games, but it is not evidence that every user will encounter the same behavior.

Tom’s Hardware lists three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, two Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI 2.1, an SD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack on its reviewed 16-inch model. Port selection should still be checked against the exact product specifications if it is decisive for your setup.
For upgradeability, RTINGS describes the reviewed 2025 Alienware 18 Area-51 family as having user-replaceable memory and storage, with that generation supporting up to 64GB RAM and 8TB storage. Those findings do not establish the upgrade limits or layout of every 2026 configuration; confirm the current model’s specifications before buying on the assumption that you can upgrade it later.

Who should buy one—and who should look elsewhere?
The Area-51 models make the most sense for shoppers who want a powerful, mostly plugged-in gaming system and value their large, high-refresh built-in displays. The 16-inch option is the more manageable choice of the two and has the distinctive anti-glare OLED option; the 18-inch version suits a setup where screen size and desktop-replacement use matter more than carrying comfort.
Look elsewhere if frequent travel, long battery sessions, or value per dollar is the priority. These machines are heavy, and their gaming battery life can be short. If the 2026 refresh sounded like a complete redesign, the 16-inch review evidence instead points to a familiar chassis with a display and processor update.
