How do you rank up in Fortnite?
Epic says rank progression or regression in Ranked Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, and Reload Zero Build depends on several match factors:
Recommended Free Tools
#1 Best Overall
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
- Your final placement.
- Eliminations you secure.
- The skill level of your opponents.
- Damage dealt compared with damage taken.
- How far you progress through Storm circles before elimination.
These factors are weighted dynamically, rather than according to a single public point formula. Epic says late-game performance carries significantly more weight than early-game actions. Strong placement and survival matter, but the published explanation does not say that any one tactic guarantees a promotion.
Which modes have Ranked progression?
Epic’s explainer names Ranked Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, and Reload Zero Build. Check the in-game Ranked selection for the mode and rank currently available to you; the cited general explainer does not establish identical thresholds, player pools, or reset schedules across modes.

Do new Fortnite accounts need to unlock Ranked?
Epic says an account that has never been used to log into Fortnite must complete the “Outlast 500 opponents” quest before enabling Ranked in the listed modes. This condition is for accounts that have never logged into Fortnite; it should not be treated as a requirement for every existing account.

Epic’s older Chapter 6 Season 3 Ranked Cups rules describe eighteen divisions: three each for Bronze through Diamond, then Elite, Champion, and Unreal as single ranks. That is a different structure from the current general Ranked Play explainer, which displays I–III for all eight ranks. For a current general rank list, use the current explainer rather than combining the two descriptions.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
Season rules and availability can change. Epic’s news index lists a Ranked Battle Royale update dated August 20, 2026; the sources cited here do not establish a current reset date, numerical promotion thresholds, or a formula for how many matches it takes to reach Unreal.
