There are four Great Fairy Fountains in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: near Kakariko Village, south of Rito Village, by Lake Akkala, and beneath the Gerudo Great Skeleton. Opening them costs 100, 500, 1,000, then 10,000 rupees in the order you unlock them—not according to their locations.
Where are all four Great Fairy Fountains?
Use the regional landmarks below to find each fountain. Cotera’s is tied to a Kakariko Village quest; the other three are identified by nearby towers, shrines, lakes, or terrain.
Cotera: northeast of Kakariko Village
Cotera’s fountain is in the woods northeast of Kakariko Village, above the village. Pikango, who stands outside Impa’s house, gives the “Find the Fairy Fountain” quest. For more on the Kakariko quest and fountain, see Piggyback’s Breath of the Wild guide.
Kaysa: south of Rito Village in Tabantha
Look for Kaysa’s fountain on a ridge south of Rito Village and Tabantha Tower. The fountain is visible from the tower, making it a useful landmark; you can glide toward it from there.

Tera: beneath the Gerudo Great Skeleton
Tera’s fountain is at the southwestern tip of the Gerudo Desert, beneath the Gerudo Great Skeleton. Hawa Koth Shrine is a nearby landmark. The approach crosses hot desert, so bring appropriate heat protection.
These four fountains are separate from Malanya, the horse god, whose location is also marked by a flower bud. Nintendo’s Explorer’s Guide discusses Malanya separately.

How much does it cost to unlock each fountain?
The offering depends on how many fountains you have already opened, not which fairy you visit. Nintendo Life’s 2023 location guide reports this sequence:
| Fountain opened | Offering |
|---|---|
| First | 100 rupees |
| Second | 500 rupees |
| Third | 1,000 rupees |
| Fourth | 10,000 rupees |
Because the price is tied to opening order, there is no fixed price for Cotera, Kaysa, Mija, or Tera. The Nintendo Life guide provides the full location list and offering sequence.
What does restoring a Great Fairy do?
Restoring a fountain gives you access to armor upgrades, and opening additional fountains makes more upgrades available. The rupees you offer restore the Great Fairy; they do not pay for an individual armor upgrade. You must also supply the required materials for each upgrade. Nintendo’s Explorer’s Guide explains that restoration opens access to upgrades, while materials are needed to carry them out.

Which fountain should you visit first?
There is no single best route for every player. Choose based on the map access, equipment, and rupees you have:
- Already in Kakariko: follow Pikango’s “Find the Fairy Fountain” quest to Cotera.
- Exploring Tabantha: use Tabantha Tower to spot Kaysa’s fountain and glide to the ridge.
- Near Akkala: head east from Dah Hesho Shrine toward Lake Akkala and the colored trees.
- Traveling through Gerudo: reach the southwestern desert and use Hawa Koth Shrine or the Gerudo Great Skeleton as landmarks; prepare for the heat.
These locations and costs are for Breath of the Wild. Tears of the Kingdom uses a different Great Fairy unlocking setup.
