Base-game Tears are spread across the Lands Between and can come from corpses, enemies, or merchants; the nine Realm of Shadow Tears appear only at night. Use the regional checklist below to find them, then take a Tear to Rennala at the Grand Library in Raya Lucaria to use Rebirth and reallocate your attributes.
How Larval Tears work
Rebirth with Rennala lets you reallocate your character’s attributes. Each Rebirth consumes one Larval Tear, so these pickups are a limited resource rather than a repeatable currency. The base-game count of 18 is listed by IGN’s 2024 location guide; the nine additional Realm of Shadow locations are listed on the Elden Ring Wiki’s Shadow of the Erdtree page.
Base-game pickups have several forms: some are on corpses, some drop from large Silver Tears, and some are carried by enemies disguised as ordinary creatures or people. The DLC pickups use a separate rule: search at nighttime for rings of blue spiritgraves.
Base-game Larval Tear locations
The regional list below follows the game’s broad route. The cited guides establish 18 base-game Tears and identify the regions, but their available location details do not specify a complete, independently verified set of turn-by-turn directions for all 18. For an interactive map and collectible checklist, use Game8’s Larval Tear map; check its markers against your current game progress.

Shadow of the Erdtree Larval Tear locations
The Realm of Shadow has nine additional Tears: four in Gravesite Plain, three in Scadu Altus, and two in the Land of the Tower. Unlike the base-game pickups, these are found at nighttime within rings of blue spiritgraves. If a listed site appears empty during the day, return after nightfall.
Gravesite Plain: four locations
- South of Scorched Ruins: Search the spiritgraves south of the ruins.
- Abandoned Ailing Village: Look below the village’s southern cliffs.
- Prospect Town: Search east of the town.
- Suppressing Pillar: Search northeast of the pillar.
Scadu Altus: three locations
- Church of the Crusade: Search south of the church.
- Military campsite: Search east of the campsite south of Shadow Keep.
- Rabbath’s Rise: Search west of the rise, before the cliffs overlooking the Ruins of Unte.
Land of the Tower: two locations
- Ancient Ruins Base: Search southwest of the Site of Grace, by the cliffs above Fog Rift Catacombs.
- Ravine North: Search west of the Site of Grace on the northern river bank, toward Scorpion River Catacombs.
Choosing a route
- For base-game exploration: Work through the regional map markers and watch for suspicious enemies; some Tears require defeating a disguised foe rather than simply looting a corpse.
- For the DLC: Travel to the listed landmark at night and look for the blue spiritgrave ring.
- For a planned Rebirth: Note which pickups you have already collected. Each Tear is consumed when used, and the locations are finite.
The guides establish locations and pickup types, but not reliable comparative travel times or difficulty ratings. Choose by your current region and map access rather than assuming one route is universally quickest or easiest.
