God of War Ragnarök has 35 Nornir Chests, grouped across six realms. Each chest has three rune locks; opening one means matching the runes through a local puzzle involving bells, spinners, seals, totems, braziers, or spear detonations. This realm-by-realm index follows the post-story route documented by PowerPyx; use each linked regional entry to jump to that chest’s exact location and steps.
How to solve Nornir Chest puzzles
First compare the symbols shown on the chest with the three symbols used by its locks. The chest’s runes tell you what to activate; the devices and route to reach them vary by location.

- Spinners: Hit each spinner until its displayed rune matches the corresponding rune on the chest.
- Bells or timed seals: Find and expose all three targets before starting. Then hit them quickly in sequence; some reset after a short interval.
- Braziers: Ignite all three. The Blades of Chaos can light nearby braziers, while purple Sigil arrows can carry the fire across gaps or around obstacles.
- Totems: Strike all three marked targets. Some Draupnir Spear targets need to be planted and detonated together so they do not respawn before the set is destroyed.

Svartalfheim: 10 Nornir Chests
Aurvangar Wetlands — chests 1–2
Two chests are in the Aurvangar Wetlands. Match the runes on each chest and use the nearby mechanisms and targets; consult the PowerPyx location guide for the separate route and solution for each one.

Dragon Beach — chest 3
One chest is at Dragon Beach. Its individual rune targets and approach are shown in the location walkthrough.
Radsvinn’s Rig — chest 4
One chest is at Radsvinn’s Rig. Follow its entry in the realm guide for the target positions and solution.
Alberich Island — chest 5
One chest is on Alberich Island. The walkthrough identifies the specific targets and route.
Myrkr Tunnels — chest 6
The chest is reached through a low passage near the water-puzzle room and requires lighting three glyphs. One glyph is beyond the Blades’ reach: use the axe to spill oil from a keg, then use purple Sigil arrows and the Blades of Chaos to ignite it. The Forge — chest 7
The Forge chest’s simultaneous totem solution requires the Draupnir Spear. Plant the spear in the targets and detonate them together; see the Forge entry for the totem positions.
The Applecore — chests 8–9
Two chests are in The Applecore. Each has its own route and rune solution in the location guide.

Midgard: 4 Nornir Chests
Well of Urd — chest 11

Raider Hideout — chest 13

The Lost Treasury — chest 14
This three-brazier puzzle involves moving the golden wheel and stone block, manipulating the gate, and using purple Sigil arrows to carry fire to a distant brazier. Follow the Lost Treasury steps for the required order and positioning.

The Strond — chests 15–16

Burning Cliffs — chest 33

The Crucible — chest 34
The chest is in the open area behind the smithing shop. Complete six initial Crucible challenges—two from each sword path—to unlock it. The required challenges are:
- F path: Weapon Mastery and Flawless.
- N path: Feed the Rift and Ring Out.
- R path: Population Control and King of the Hill.

Aesir Prison Wreckage — chest 35
This post-story chest is behind a grate one floor below the top of the prison. Reach the new path left of the Raven Tree; it cannot be reached from Mist Fields. Three totems are involved, including one in a cell and one on the bottom floor. The prison walkthrough gives the precise route and target positions.
Are any Nornir Chests missable?
PowerPyx says none are missable: the chests can be collected during post-story free-roam. Some late chests may not award another stat increase once the relevant stat is maxed, but they still count toward completion. The world map indicates whether a region contains a Nornir Chest, which can help identify regions to revisit.
Chest numbers here follow PowerPyx’s post-story route, not a universal order every player must follow. Idunn Apples and Horns of Blood Mead are awarded in an alternating sequence based on how many chests you have opened, so a chest number does not guarantee a particular reward. Apples increase maximum health; Horns increase Spartan Rage. Push Square says almost all chests are needed for the Full Belly trophy.
Accessibility and timing settings
PlayStation’s official US listing for God of War Ragnarök identifies PS4 and PS5 versions and lists high-contrast visuals, audio cue alternatives, adjustable difficulty, and an option to play without rapid button presses. These settings may help players who need different visual feedback or button timing. See PlayStation’s game page for the platform and accessibility details.
