In R.E.P.O., the safest response depends on what triggers a creature: identify whether it reacts to sight, sound, contact, or a special cue, then avoid that trigger, break its attack condition, or fight only when you have a suitable opening. The game is in Early Access, so creature behavior and the roster can change between updates.
How to choose a safe response
R.E.P.O. is an online co-op horror game built around retrieving physics-based objects while communicating through proximity voice chat. Its Steam Early Access listing currently says the game has four levels and 29 enemies, with more levels and enemies planned; that is a dated store description, not a permanent roster guarantee. Creature tactics below are drawn from third-party guides and may change with updates.
Switchblade Gaming’s May 22, 2026 guide groups creature triggers into sight, sound, heavy impact, proximity, and special triggers. That is a guide’s useful taxonomy, not an official developer classification. Apply it as a practical check:
- Avoid the trigger: Don’t grab the Apex Predator, block Bella’s path, pop Birthday Boy’s balloons, stare at Shadow Child, or pick up Tick without a reason.
- Break the attack condition: Use cover or leave Peeper’s room to break line of sight. If Mentalist catches a teammate in its field, GameSpot recommends that another player pull them clear.
- Fight selectively: Destructoid describes using thrown smaller enemies, stun tools, and firearms in creature-specific situations. No weapon is a universal answer; spend resources only when the encounter and opening justify it.
Creature-by-creature guide
The table summarizes first responses rather than promising a guaranteed counter. Behavior descriptions and recommendations are reported by the linked guides, not confirmed by an official current bestiary.

When fighting is worth the risk
Fighting can be useful when a creature blocks an essential route, threatens a teammate, or cannot be safely avoided. Destructoid’s guide describes throwing smaller enemies, using a Tranq Gun to create openings against some threats, and using a Shotgun or other weapons against tougher ones. Treat those as creature-specific guide recommendations, not guaranteed results in every build. If you can safely leave, hide, or interrupt the trigger instead, conserve your tools.
Play as a team
Because Steam lists online co-op for up to six players and proximity voice chat, short callouts can help: name the creature, state its trigger if known, and say whether you are breaking line of sight, rescuing someone, or moving away. Coordinate who draws attention and who helps a trapped teammate rather than having everyone rush in. The Steam listing also describes a grabbing tool and upgrades and weapons, but which item helps depends on the creature and the current build.

Roster and version context
Semiwork’s Steam listing identifies R.E.P.O. as an Early Access game and currently states, “There are currently 4 levels, 29 enemies, many items, weapons and upgrades!” The listing says more levels and enemies are planned. Those figures describe the store page as accessed in 2026, not a guaranteed future total.
Switchblade Gaming’s May 22, 2026 guide says the Monster Update (v0.3.0) added Bella, Birthday Boy, Elsa, Tick, Gambit, Headgrab, Heart Hugger, Oogly, Cleanup Crew, and Loom, bringing its roster count to 29; it says the guide was checked against build 0.3.1 and warns that values change with updates. This is a third-party account, not official patch-note confirmation. For creature behaviors and counters, consult the dated guides from GameSpot and Destructoid, and expect mechanics to change as Early Access continues.
