Those counts are historical guide context, not confirmed live-game requirements for October 2026. Follow one area at a time and use the landmarks below to avoid backtracking.
Before you search: quest context and current-status caveat
The fragments are collectibles tied to the Dyadic Ascension quest for Barrow-Dyad, an Exotic SMG that GameSpot described as the guaranteed reward for completing Derealize. In GameSpot’s 2025 guide context, 12 of 18 fragments were required. ProGameTalk’s guide, last updated April 12, 2025, also lists six in each of the same three areas and says they can be collected in any order. Neither source confirms the current total or requirement in October 2026.

Bungie Help acknowledged reports of an issue affecting this quest step on March 19, 2025, saying: “We have been alerted to issues affecting the Taken Osseous Fragments step of Dyadic Ascension. We’re investigating the underlying cause of these issues at this time.” That response documents an investigation on that date; it does not establish whether the issue is fixed or still present. Read Bungie Help’s March 19, 2025 response.
The route below follows GameSpot’s numbering and landmark descriptions. ProGameTalk uses a different route order, so avoid mixing its numbering into these directions. GameSpot recommends clearing a whole area before moving on; that is a route-efficiency tip, not a requirement to collect in that sequence.

Hall of Souls: six locations in GameSpot’s guide

From the Hall of Souls spawn, turn immediately right and jump onto the nearby platform.

From the first pickup, cross to the opposite platform and follow the hallway’s left side. At the bridge leading right to a higher platform, check the ledge underneath it.

Return toward the bridge, follow the room’s left wall, and use the columns to reach the next platform on the left.

Continue across the next column and left platform. Look down and to the right for another ledge.

Return to the bridge above the fourth pickup. Pass through the area by the King’s Fall entrance and statues, then search the dark recess on the left side of the central passage.

Continue past the large Blight and check beneath a platform on the left.
Trenchway: six locations in GameSpot’s guide

From spawn, drop down to the right. Look along the ledge beside the Taken wall.

Return upward, take the stairs northwest, then head west toward the wall ledges. GameSpot places this pickup on the fourth ledge.

Drop down and continue in the same direction to a hollow structure beside a large white wall. The fragment is inside.

Turn back toward spawn and pass through the narrow white corridor beyond the Dread enemies. Jump to the ledge overlooking the crossing; the pickup is on the left.

Cross the area, turn left, and climb the wall structures toward the center. Search the triangular ledge roughly opposite the fourth pickup.

Return to the main path and continue left as far as possible. Use your Ghost to reveal platforms across the gap, then check the rear of the large spiked rock formation for the fragment.

Mausoleum: six locations in GameSpot’s guide

From spawn, turn around and climb the large rock formation. Drop down on its right side to find the first fragment.

Head back toward spawn and cross the cavern past the Taken enemies. Look beneath the largest central platform on the right.

Go to the larger green central area and climb the central structures to the tallest one.

Turn toward spawn and follow the room’s left side. Search beneath the large tentacle-like structure, with flying Dread enemies to the left.

Continue along the rocks on the arena’s left side. At a large gap, search the larger rock formation on the right, about midway up.

Continue toward the Taken-energy pools. Check the right side of the first large central structure. The fragment can blend into the structure; hug the wall until the collection prompt appears.
If a fragment or quest step does not register

Check the collection prompt carefully, especially at the final Mausoleum location, where the pickup may be hard to distinguish from the structure.

For the Trenchway fragment across the gap, use the Ghost to reveal the platforms before trying to reach the rock formation.

If a collected fragment does not advance Dyadic Ascension, Bungie’s March 2025 acknowledgment confirms that reports of a step issue existed then. It does not tell players the present status; the available sources do not confirm a current fix or ongoing bug.
