What counts as a unique body armour?
In Path of Exile 2, body armour refers to an equipment slot. Unique body armours are special items equipped in that slot; their bases can provide armour, evasion, energy shield, or combinations of those defences. Their distinctive modifiers can be as important as their base type.

ExileDB’s unique-item list describes its data as read from game files for patch 0.5.5, client build 4.5.5.4. It says unique modifiers come from the Path of Building Community list, while other data come from game files. It reports 75 body armour entries for that snapshot.
The Path of Exile 2 Wiki list defines the category as unique armour pieces equipped as body armours. Its category search result reports 80 pages, including multiple Atziri’s Splendour variants as separate pages. Because the sources count differently, use the source and its counting basis when quoting a total.

How to compare body armour uniques
There is no universal best-in-slot choice established by an item list alone. Check the base, requirements, defensive values, modifier ranges, and how the effects fit the build you are planning. A high defence value may matter less than a modifier that supports the character’s mechanics.
- Base and defence: Identify whether the item provides armour, evasion, energy shield, or a combination.
- Requirements: Check its level and attribute requirements against the character.
- Modifiers: Compare the full effects and roll ranges, not just the item name or headline defence.
- Build interaction: Consider whether the character can benefit from the item’s effects and what it gives up by equipping it.
For example, ExileDB lists Cloak of Defiance with energy shield, mana bonuses, and damage taken from mana before life. Belly of the Beast, by contrast, is listed with armour and evasion plus life-related modifiers. These examples show why base defence alone is not a complete comparison.

The ExileDB count and data are explicitly tied to patch 0.5.5 and client build 4.5.5.4. Unique item properties and the roster can change between patches, so the count and modifiers should be read as a dated snapshot rather than a guarantee about a later game version.
