Hardware watchers have linked ATlite3 to a possible PS6 GPU and Gainsborough to a possible Steam Deck successor, but the names are not confirmation from AMD, Sony or Valve.
What was reportedly found in AMD’s driver?
VideoCardz reported on October 2, 2026, that AnandTech forum member SixPie found the three identifiers in AMD’s Adrenalin 26.9.2 package. AMD released that optional driver on September 29, 2026; its official release notes establish the software version, not the identity or purpose of the codenames.
- ATlite3: Leaker Kepler_L2 suggested it could be the GPU for Orion, a name associated in reporting with a possible next-generation PlayStation.
- AT2: The identifier had also appeared in earlier RDNA 5 reporting. Its presence does not establish a specific consumer product.
- Gainsborough: Kepler_L2 proposed a connection to a future Steam Deck chip or successor.
These are reported strings and interpretations, not official product disclosures. iXBT’s October 6 report likewise noted that AMD had not confirmed the proposed PS6 or Steam Deck 2 links.
Why are ATlite3 and AT2 linked to a possible PS6?
The ATlite3 theory rests on an interpretation of the name and prior console-development naming. VideoCardz attributes the Orion connection to Kepler_L2, who compared “ATlite3” with “Navi10Lite,” a name associated in reporting with PS5 development. That resemblance may suggest a naming pattern, but it does not prove that ATlite3 is an Orion GPU or that Orion is a retail PS6 product.

AT2 has reportedly surfaced in RDNA 5 discussions, but the driver identifier alone does not say what device it targets. The cited reports provide no confirmed PS6 specifications, performance figures, price or release date.
Why is Gainsborough linked to a possible Steam Deck successor?
The proposed connection combines a reported hardware-record detail with a naming clue. VideoCardz says import/export records reportedly describe Gainsborough validation hardware using an FF6 BGA package with 1,179 contacts. The same report notes that the original Steam Deck APU was called Aerith and the OLED revision’s APU Sephiroth—both names from Final Fantasy VII—while Gainsborough is Aerith’s surname.

Those details make the theory plausible as a hypothesis, but neither records reported second-hand nor a naming parallel proves that Gainsborough is intended for a Steam Deck 2. They reveal no confirmed device specifications or launch schedule.
Valve’s Steam Deck OLED page describes a current product. The OLED model is not an announced successor, and the cited reporting does not establish that a future Deck will use Gainsborough.

Does this driver confirm PS6 or Steam Deck 2?
No. AMD’s release notes identify Adrenalin 26.9.2 as an optional driver release, while the cited reporting offers unconfirmed interpretations of identifiers in the package. Neither AMD, Sony nor Valve is cited as confirming the alleged hardware links. The reports also do not establish release dates, prices, specifications or retail availability for either rumored product.
Valve designer Pierre-Loup Griffais has previously described the company’s desired generational improvement for a future Deck, telling PC Gamer: “We’re not interested in getting to a point where it’s 20 or 30 or even 50% more performance at the same battery life. We want something a little bit more demarcated than that,” as reported by PC Gamer. That design goal is not confirmation of a product or of Gainsborough’s identity.
Quick Recap
Rank #4
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
