Alo Moves XR is Alo’s mixed-reality wellness app for Meta Quest, featuring prerecorded 3D instructors that appear in the user’s room. Meta announced it on May 30, 2024, and it became available on October 10, 2024—not as a new 2026 launch. The app combines spatial yoga, Pilates and mindfulness sessions with a conventional 2D class library. Its original subscription prices may no longer apply, so check the live Quest Store listing before signing up.
What Alo launched—and when
The Quest app is called Alo Moves XR. Alo Yoga is the wellness and apparel brand; Alo Moves was its digital class platform. The broader service may now appear under the name ALO Wellness Club, so the names are not interchangeable: Alo Moves XR is the Quest experience, while the broader service also offers screen-based classes.
Meta announced the experience on May 30, 2024, initially describing it as coming to Quest 3 later that year. UploadVR reported its availability on October 10, 2024. Magnopus developed it in partnership with Meta.
How the volumetric classes work
Volumetric capture records an instructor’s body and movement as three-dimensional visual data, rather than as a flat video. In the headset, the prerecorded instructor appears life-sized and spatially present. Users can move around the figure to see a pose from different angles, or reposition a smaller version—the app’s “mini-instructor”—to keep a useful view while exercising.

That spatial presentation is the difference from simply watching a yoga video on a large virtual screen. It does not mean the class is live, the instructor responds to the user, or an AI coach corrects form. The launch materials describe captured instructors, not two-way instruction.
The app also uses mixed reality: Quest passthrough lets users see their actual room while virtual content is placed in it. Meta described environmental portals that can open onto nature-inspired scenes, such as mountain views or waterfalls. Some experiences may feel more like a virtual studio; MR modes retain a view of the physical space. Passthrough and room mapping can help with orientation, but they do not make a headset equivalent to unobstructed natural vision or guarantee safety.

Classes, instructors and the 2D library
At launch, Alo described classes in yoga, Pilates, meditation, mindfulness and sound baths. The instructors named in the announcement were Ashley Galvin, Annie Landa, Bianca Wise, Kirat Randhawa and Susy Markoe Schieffelin. The launch-era description put sessions at five to 24 minutes and said they were designed for all levels. Later store information has described sessions as lasting five to 30 minutes; catalog details can change.

Alo Moves XR was also presented as a way to access a conventional 2D class library alongside its mixed-reality content. That does not mean every class in Alo’s wider catalog is volumetric or available in an MR format. The ALO Wellness Club mobile listing describes the broader class library, but it is a separate screen-based option for people who do not want to work out in a headset.

Which Quest headsets are supported?

Quest 3 was the original announced platform, but calling the app currently exclusive to Quest 3 may be outdated. Device availability can change, and third-party listings can lag or be wrong. Before buying a headset or relying on an older one, check the live Meta Horizon Store listing for Alo Moves XR and confirm that it names your exact model and region.
What does it cost?
At launch, reported Alo Moves XR pricing was $10 per month or $69 per year for new members. Existing Alo Moves members were offered a $20 annual price, and new Quest 3 or Quest 3S purchasers were reported to have a one-year offer for $49. These are historical launch-era figures, not verified current prices.

A third-party Quest Store DB listing records a July 28, 2026 update saying “Alo Moves XR Is Free!” That is not confirmed by an official Alo or Meta source in the available reporting. Check the current Quest Store page or the app’s checkout screen before assuming the app is free—or that an old subscription price still applies.
Do not assume the Quest app and Alo’s broader membership have the same billing terms. Alo’s site has shown a $20 monthly price signal for its broader on-demand service, but plan terms can vary by platform, region and promotion; that figure is not confirmation of the Quest app’s price. Alo Moves XR is most compelling for someone who already owns a compatible Quest and wants a spatial demonstration rather than just a video. A life-sized instructor that can be viewed from around the room, plus a movable mini-instructor, could make it easier to observe a pose. But this is still prerecorded instruction: it cannot see whether a pose is correct, adapt to an injury or provide the personal feedback of a live teacher.
- Make space first. Clear enough floor area for the movements in the selected class. Move furniture and fragile objects, and keep pets and children out of the workout area.
- Set up the room boundary. Follow the headset’s room-mapping and boundary prompts. Mapping is a guide, not a safety guarantee.
- Use suitable flooring and a mat. Choose a stable surface and a mat appropriate for yoga or Pilates; avoid poses that could bring you into contact with walls or furniture.
- Account for visibility and comfort. Passthrough can help you orient yourself, but the headset still occupies your vision and may distract you. Stop if you feel dizzy, nauseated, develop a headache or experience eye strain.
- Check current app controls. Third-party listings have described seated, standing and room-scale modes, as well as controller and hand-tracking support. Confirm the current listing and app settings rather than assuming every option is available on every headset.
The app may suit short guided sessions, meditation or sound baths, but it is not a substitute for a qualified instructor, physical therapist or medical advice. Anyone seeking rehabilitation or individualized exercise guidance should consult an appropriate professional.
Is it worth trying?
For existing Quest owners, Alo Moves XR is a distinctive way to try wellness instruction in mixed reality, especially if short yoga and Pilates sessions or meditation appeal to them. Its strongest distinction is spatial viewing—not live coaching.
For someone considering a headset solely for Alo classes, compare the total hardware cost with ordinary Alo Wellness Club access on a phone, tablet or TV. A headset adds room setup, weight and visual obstruction; a conventional screen is simpler if the goal is simply to follow a class. Quest fitness apps such as Supernatural, FitXR and Les Mills Bodycombat VR offer different workout emphases, but are not direct replacements for Alo’s yoga, Pilates and mindfulness focus.
The practical verdict depends on three things: whether your Quest model is currently supported, whether you are comfortable moving in a headset, and what the app costs now. The launch announcement and reporting explain the concept; the live store and checkout are the right places to settle present-day compatibility and price.
