Alone in the Dark is a repeatable Micah-10 quest in Destiny 2: The Final Shape. Pick it up from Micah-10 in the Lost Tower, search the assigned Pale Heart patrol area for an injured Ghost, complete the Cyst mission it directs you to, then return to Micah-10. The quest rotates its destination and Cyst objective, so use the active quest card rather than an old video or fixed route.
How to start Alone in the Dark
Progress through The Final Shape campaign and Micah-10’s Pale Heart questline until the quest becomes available. The exact campaign gate has changed or is not clearly documented in a current official walkthrough, so the in-game quest log is the reliable check.

- Travel to the Lost Tower in the Pale Heart.
- Speak with Micah-10 and accept Alone in the Dark.
- Open the quest card and read the currently assigned patrol region and Cyst objective.
The database listing describes the quest as seven steps, ending with a visit to Micah-10 for the reward. Its recorded flavor text is: “Follow the vision of Light into the depths of the Pale Heart and fight the infection found there.” See the recorded quest step at Ishtar Collective.

1. Take the assignment from Micah-10
Accept the quest at the Lost Tower. Micah-10 remains both the quest giver and the turn-in point.

2. Go to the assigned Pale Heart patrol area
Travel to the region shown on your quest card. The destination can rotate between completions, so do not assume the same zone is required every time.
3. Find the injured Ghost
Search the marked patrol region for the injured Ghost objective. Follow the quest tracker and interact with the Ghost when it appears; the Ghost-search portion is not a separate permanent map collectible.

4. Follow the vision into the Cyst
The Ghost points you toward a Cyst activity. Launch the Cyst mission shown by the current objective and follow its route through the Pale Heart.
5. Fight through the infection
Complete the combat and traversal objectives inside the assigned Cyst. Cyst layouts and encounters vary, so the quest card is more dependable than a generic step list.

6. Finish the Cyst activity
Stay in the activity until its completion message appears. If the objective does not advance, check that you launched the Cyst named by the quest rather than another available Cyst.
7. Return to Micah-10
Go back to the Lost Tower and speak with Micah-10 to claim the reward. The D2 Wiki database entry lists Ghost reputation, Axial Lacuna, Bold Endings, False Idols, and a chance at a Deepsight weapon; verify the live reward panel in your game because reward pools can change with updates.

How many Alone in the Dark completions are there?
The quest itself is not a six- or eleven-run finite story. Bungie Help forum replies describe Alone in the Dark as infinitely repeatable. The commonly quoted numbers are reward milestones, and separate replies report them differently:

The replies do not fully explain how the milestones relate, so track your own Cyst and Paracausal Geometry progress in-game. What to do if the quest disappears
First check both locations below; these are support-forum troubleshooting suggestions rather than a complete official bug procedure.
- Tower Quest Archive: open the Quest Archive in the Tower and look for Alone in the Dark among abandoned or unclaimed quests.
- Micah-10’s Lost Tower terminal: return to Micah-10 and inspect the terminal or available quest offerings.
If neither location shows it, confirm that you have progressed the campaign and Micah-10 questline, then reload the destination and recheck the quest screen. Current objectives, requirements, and bugs can change after patches; consult the in-game card and relevant Bungie Help known-issues page for official support context.
How to restart “Alone in the Dark”
You normally do not restart it through a special reset button. If you abandoned the quest, retrieve it from the Tower Quest Archive or check Micah-10’s Lost Tower terminal. If you completed a run, pick up the next repeatable instance from Micah-10 when it is offered. Because the activity is repeatable, finishing one cycle does not permanently remove access.
Alone in the Dark versus Micah-10’s other Ghost quests
Do not confuse this repeatable quest with Micah-10’s finite lost-Ghost quests. Forum guidance distinguishes Alone in the Dark from those separate quest types: completing the finite quests does not mean the repeatable Cyst loop has ended, and completing the repeatable loop does not replace every other Micah-10 assignment.
Keeping the guide accurate after updates
Quest requirements, patrol locations, Cyst objectives, and reward pools are update-sensitive. When your screen conflicts with an older guide, follow the current quest card, objective marker, and reward preview. The available database and third-party walkthroughs are useful references, but no current official step-by-step page confirms every present-day prerequisite and objective.
