Amazon has brought physical page-turn buttons back to its Kindle lineup as an accessory, not as controls built into the new readers. Its October 1, 2026 US announcement introduced a button-equipped magnetic cover for two Signature Edition models, plus a separate Bluetooth page-turn remote that works with a wider range of Kindles.
What Amazon’s new Kindle buttons actually are
The distinction matters: none of the newly announced Kindle readers is described as having page-turn buttons built into its body. The buttons are on the separately sold Kindle Page-Turn Cover, which connects to the reader through pogo pins. Amazon lists compatibility only with Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition and Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition.
Amazon also introduced Kindle Click, a standalone Bluetooth remote for turning pages without touching the reader. It works with all new Kindle devices and any Kindle model from 2024 or later, according to Amazon. The Click is an alternative for hands-free reading, not a button-equipped Kindle case.

Which Kindles work with the Page-Turn Cover?
Amazon names just two compatible devices: the Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition. The standard Paperwhite and standard Colorsoft are not included in Amazon’s stated compatibility list, nor are the basic Kindle models. Check the exact edition before buying; the cover’s magnetic attachment and pogo-pin connection do not make it a universal Kindle case.
The Click remote has broader stated compatibility: all of the new Kindle devices and Kindle models released from 2024 onward. Amazon does not list older models as supported, so owners of earlier Kindles should not assume the remote will pair with them.

How this compares with the Kindle Oasis
Readers asking for buttons may be thinking of the Kindle Oasis, which put dedicated page-turn buttons directly on the reader. Amazon’s 2019 launch announcement described that model as designed for one-handed reading and said it would ship July 24, 2019, starting at $249.99 in the US. That was its historical launch price, not a current price. Amazon’s announcement of the new accessories does not say that the Oasis design is returning.
Amazon lists a security-update date of December 31, 2028 for the Kindle Oasis Generation 10 (2019 release) on its Kindle e-reader security-updates page. That support date does not establish current availability, condition, or battery health for used or refurbished units, and it is not a promise about marketplace stock.

Which option makes sense?
- Choose the Page-Turn Cover if you own one of the two compatible Signature Edition Kindles and want buttons attached to the reader.
- Choose Kindle Click if you want to turn pages from a short distance or keep your hands away from the device, and your Kindle is among the supported new or 2024-and-later models.
- Consider an Oasis only if built-in buttons are essential and you are comfortable looking for an older device; its current price and availability are not established here.
Amazon frames the remote for hands-free arrangements such as reading under the covers, on a treadmill, or at an airplane tray table. Whether the remote or cover is comfortable for a particular setup is a personal fit question; Amazon’s announcement does not provide long-term battery, durability, or comfort testing.
What Amazon has—and hasn’t—said about demand
Amazon says Kindle readers read more than 720 billion pages in 2025 and that Kindle has seen double-digit global growth for three consecutive years. Those are company-reported figures about Kindle use and growth, not measurements of how many readers want physical buttons. An individual Reddit commenter put the request plainly—“I want the page turn buttons please!”—but one discussion does not show how widespread that preference is.

The launch also includes other accessories that should not be confused with the button cover: a Charging Dock announced at $59.99 in the US for the Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition, and other covers starting at $39.99. Neither is the Page-Turn Cover. Amazon’s announcement lists the new basic Kindle from $149.99, Paperwhite from $199.99, Paperwhite Signature Edition at $249.99, Colorsoft from $289.99, and Colorsoft Signature Edition at $319.99 in the US. The Page-Turn Cover’s compatibility is limited to the two Signature Edition models, regardless of those other devices’ prices or features.

Amazon said the new basic Kindle and aluminum-backed version were available starting October 1, 2026 in the US and several other named regions; preorders for Paperwhite and Colorsoft were beginning on a rolling basis. TechRadar reported an October 28 arrival for Paperwhite and Colorsoft models in its October 2026 coverage. Check Amazon’s live listings for current availability and regional compatibility details.
