Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Amazon Elastic Transcoder support ended on November 13, 2025. AWS says its console and resources are no longer accessible. For file-based video transcoding, AWS recommends AWS Elemental MediaConvert; for live-video encoding, use AWS Elemental MediaLive instead. The right replacement depends on what your pipeline produced and how it connected to storage, notifications, and playback.
Choose the replacement for the workload
| Workload | AWS service to evaluate | Why |
|---|---|---|
| File-based transcoding and media processing | AWS Elemental MediaConvert | AWS recommends it as the replacement for Elastic Transcoder. Rebuild and validate the workflow rather than assuming a direct, automatic conversion. |
| Live-video encoding | AWS Elemental MediaLive | AWS identifies MediaLive for live-video encoding; MediaConvert is intended for file-based processing. |
These recommendations are AWS’s service guidance, not a claim that every Elastic Transcoder configuration maps one-to-one. See AWS’s migration guide and service information.
What the shutdown means for existing workflows
The end-of-support date has passed. AWS’s notice says that after November 13, 2025, users can no longer access the Elastic Transcoder console or resources. Do not plan a migration around being able to open old jobs or retrieve settings from the service.
AWS Samples provides scripts intended to convert preset and job settings, but the sample README says they call the Elastic Transcoder API to retrieve resources. Because that service is discontinued, assume those retrieval steps may no longer work. Start with configurations, exports, deployment records, and backups already held by your team. If a setting or resource is inaccessible, ask AWS Support about recovery options for your account; no universal post-shutdown recovery method is established.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Inventory the pipeline before rebuilding it
Document the inputs, outputs, and operational behavior of every workflow that used Elastic Transcoder. Include the edge cases, not just the usual preset: these details often determine whether a replacement is functionally equivalent for your game trailers, cutscenes, streams, or other video assets.
- Inputs and outputs: source locations, destination paths, container and codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate or quality targets, and any adaptive-streaming formats.
- Media handling: captions and subtitles, audio tracks and processing, image overlays, scaling, encryption or DRM, and naming conventions.
- Operations: job and preset settings, permissions, retry behavior, notifications, storage lifecycle, and integrations with services such as S3, SNS, SQS, or CloudWatch.
- Consumers: downstream applications, players, packaging systems, and any assumptions about filenames, metadata, or delivery timing.
AWS’s February 2025 migration article describes converting presets with a script and discusses MediaConvert capabilities. AWS Samples also publishes conversion scripts. Treat either approach as a starting point, not a guaranteed one-click migration: the sample scripts’ API retrieval dependency is particularly important after the shutdown.

Recreate and validate jobs in MediaConvert
- Recover the old workflow definition. Gather saved presets, job settings, infrastructure-as-code, application code, logs, exports, and representative output files. Record any unknowns rather than filling them in by assumption.
- Map settings to MediaConvert. Recreate the relevant job configuration, presets, and templates using the AWS Elemental MediaConvert migration guidance. If using conversion scripts, check whether they require calls to Elastic Transcoder; do not assume API-based retrieval still succeeds.
- Rebuild the surrounding integration. Verify credentials and permissions, input and output storage paths, event handling, notifications, retries, and any S3, SNS, SQS, or CloudWatch connections.
- Run representative test jobs. Include routine files and difficult cases, such as alternate frame rates, multiple audio tracks, captions, overlays, encryption, and unusual aspect ratios, wherever these occur in the original workflow.
- Compare delivered results. Check codec, container, dimensions, frame rate, audio and caption behavior, packaging, encryption, naming, playback, and downstream processing against the requirements you documented. Adjust the configuration before routing production traffic to it.
- Monitor the cutover. Confirm that jobs complete, outputs reach the expected destinations, notifications arrive, and consumers handle the new outputs correctly. Retain a rollback or fallback plan appropriate to your deployment.
Check capability, throughput, and cost against your actual jobs
Output formats and processing features
AWS’s 2025 migration article describes MediaConvert as supporting resolutions up to 8K and frame rates up to 120 FPS, along with formats and features including HEVC, Apple ProRes, AV1, Dolby Audio, CMAF outputs, captions, overlays, scaling, and audio normalization. These are AWS-stated capabilities; confirm current regional availability and the precise settings you need in the service documentation before designing around them.
Throughput and turnaround
AWS says MediaConvert is optimized to process more files in parallel and offers accelerated transcoding as an option. Neither statement predicts the queue time or completion time for a particular workload. Estimate capacity and latency using representative jobs and your own workload patterns.

Pricing model
AWS describes MediaConvert pricing in terms of output duration and characteristics, with Basic and Professional tiers, per-second billing, volume discounts, and reserved pricing. The reserved option described in AWS’s migration article involves a 12-month commitment. These are pricing-model details, not a universal cost estimate. Check current pricing for your region and tier, then estimate using representative jobs and expected output characteristics; a starting-price figure alone cannot establish your bill.
Common migration problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely area to inspect | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| A conversion script cannot retrieve old presets or jobs | The script depends on Elastic Transcoder API access, which may be unavailable after the service shutdown. | Use saved exports, backups, deployment records, or existing application configuration. Ask AWS Support about account-specific recovery questions. |
| MediaConvert output plays differently from the old output | Codec, container, frame rate, packaging, captions, audio, encryption, scaling, or overlays may not match the former job. | Compare output properties and playback against documented requirements; test each affected feature and adjust the job settings. |
| Jobs fail or outputs do not appear at the expected location | Permissions, input/output paths, storage integration, or job configuration may differ in the rebuilt workflow. | Check the configured locations and access permissions, then verify a small representative job end to end. |
| Downstream systems stop responding to completed jobs | Notifications, event handling, or assumptions about output names and metadata may not have been recreated. | Check the S3, SNS, SQS, or CloudWatch integrations used by the workflow and verify the expected event and output contract. |
| Processing takes longer or queues differently than expected | Concurrency, job characteristics, and queue configuration affect workload behavior; AWS’s general throughput descriptions do not guarantee a specific turnaround. | Measure representative jobs and review queueing and acceleration needs against the required service level. |
