Amazon’s Luna relaunch was real, but it happened on October 23, 2025—not today. The redesigned cloud-gaming service introduced GameNight, a collection of local multiplayer games controlled with smartphones, expanded the Luna catalog included with Prime, and replaced the former Luna+ subscription with Luna Premium.
This guide explains what launched, how much access costs in the U.S., which devices work, and whether Luna is a good fit for Prime members, families, and casual cloud gamers.
What changed when Luna relaunched?
Amazon repositioned Luna as more than a conventional cloud-gaming library. The October 23, 2025 relaunch brought a redesigned interface and a stronger emphasis on social, living-room play through GameNight.
The relaunch included four major changes:
- GameNight: approachable local multiplayer games designed for groups.
- Phone controls: players can use smartphones as controllers for supported GameNight titles.
- More Prime access: Amazon said Prime members would receive more than 50 cloud-delivered games at launch, including more than 25 GameNight titles.
- Luna Premium: Luna+ was replaced by a larger $9.99-per-month U.S. subscription at launch.
Amazon described the redesigned service as being for players with different levels of experience, including people who may not normally consider themselves gamers. Luna still streams games rather than requiring a dedicated console or gaming PC.

The original headline’s word “today” refers to October 23, 2025, when Amazon announced and launched the redesign. It should not be read as a new launch occurring on the current date.
How GameNight works
GameNight is Luna’s clearest point of difference. It focuses on local multiplayer games that can be played together on a TV or other shared screen, with phones standing in for dedicated gamepads.
Amazon’s published setup flow is:
- Open Luna on a supported TV, browser, or other device.
- Choose a GameNight title.
- Scan the QR code shown on the display with a smartphone.
- Follow the join instructions on the phone.
- Use the phone’s touchscreen controls to play.
- Have additional players repeat the process, subject to the player limit for that game.
You do not need to buy a Luna Controller for supported GameNight games. However, “no controller required” does not apply to every Luna title. Conventional streamed games generally require a compatible controller, mouse, or keyboard.
Launch examples included Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg, Angry Birds Flock Party, Draw & Guess, The Jackbox Party Pack 9, Ticket to Ride, Exploding Kittens 2, and Clue.
Amazon described Courtroom Chaos as a voice-driven, AI-powered improv courtroom game featuring Snoop Dogg. That description applies to the particular game; Luna is not generally an AI gaming service, and Amazon did not characterize every GameNight title that way.

What Prime members receive
At launch, Amazon said Prime members received access to more than 50 Luna games at no additional charge, including the GameNight collection and a rotating selection of PC games. Amazon highlighted launch examples such as Hogwarts Legacy, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and TopSpin 2K25.
These were launch examples, not a permanent ownership guarantee. Luna’s subscription catalogs can change, so a game named in Amazon’s October 2025 announcement may not remain available indefinitely. Amazon’s Prime benefits page likewise presents Luna as an evolving library.

What is Luna Premium?
Luna Premium replaced Luna+ and cost $9.99 per month in the United States at the relaunch. It included the Prime-accessible Luna content and added a larger streaming library. Amazon cited EA SPORTS FC 25, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and Batman: Arkham Knight as launch examples.
For U.S. customers, Luna Premium was an additional subscription to Prime—not a replacement for Prime. Existing Luna+ subscribers were moved to Luna Premium without needing to take action, according to Amazon.

Whether Premium is worthwhile depends on the games you want. Prime members who mainly want GameNight do not need Premium for that feature. Premium makes more sense when its additional catalog contains several games you expect to play, rather than one title that could later leave the service.

The following figures come from Amazon’s October 23, 2025 announcement and published Luna explainer. Subscription and hardware prices may change, so check the live Luna page and checkout before subscribing.

The Luna Controller is not an automatic purchase recommendation. It is unnecessary for GameNight, and people who already own a compatible gamepad may not need it.
Supported devices
Amazon lists Luna support across a range of devices, including:
- Fire TV and Fire tablets
- iPhone, iPad, Android phones, and Android tablets
- Windows PCs, Macs, and Chromebooks
- Web browsers
- Select LG and Samsung smart TVs
- Select Comcast Xfinity devices
- Rogers Xfinity Stream Box in Canada
Support is not universal across every model. Availability can depend on the country, device generation, operating system, Luna app, and browser. “Works on smart TVs” should therefore be understood as select supported models, not every television from those brands.

Amazon’s relaunch announcement listed cloud-delivered Luna availability in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Prime members outside those cloud-delivery markets may receive a rotating selection of downloadable PC games instead, and catalogs are not identical in every country.
Controllers, phones, and internet requirements
For GameNight, you need a compatible display or device and a smartphone for each player. A dedicated Luna Controller is not required for supported titles. Players also need to complete the QR-code joining process.
For other Luna games, Amazon cites compatibility with devices and controllers including the Luna Controller, Xbox One Controller, DualShock 4, and Razer Kishi. Mouse-and-keyboard play is supported where the particular device and game allow it. Controller compatibility is therefore both device- and game-dependent.
Amazon recommends a sustained internet connection of at least 10 Mbps for its stated 1080p streaming target. That is a baseline recommendation, not a promise of smooth play. Latency, Wi-Fi congestion, household traffic, distance from the router, and the route between your connection and Amazon’s servers can affect responsiveness and image quality.

Common problems and practical fixes
A smartphone will not connect
First confirm that the selected game is actually in GameNight. A QR code and phone controls are not a universal feature of Luna. If it is a supported title, rescan the code, check camera and browser permissions, and confirm that the Luna session is still active. If the player list is full or frozen, restart the game session. For non-GameNight games, switch to a supported physical controller, mouse, or keyboard.

Streaming quality is poor
Do not treat the 10 Mbps figure as a guarantee. Where possible, try a wired connection or a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network near the router. Pause large downloads and competing high-bandwidth streams, then test another supported device or browser. A congested wireless network can make Luna appear worse than it is under normal conditions.
A game is no longer available
Separate launch announcements from the live catalog. A title may have been included at launch, currently listed, available through Luna Premium, tied to another subscription or account, or part of a rotating Prime selection. Subscription access is not the same as permanent ownership.
Is Luna a replacement for a console?
No. Luna is best viewed as a convenience-oriented cloud platform, not a one-for-one replacement for every console or gaming PC.

Its advantages are straightforward: no console purchase, no large game downloads for streamed titles, access through devices many households already own, and an unusually accessible party-play mode through GameNight. Prime members can try the included selection without paying a separate Luna subscription.
The trade-offs are equally important. Luna depends on a reliable internet connection, streaming latency can hurt timing-sensitive games, and the catalog is controlled by subscriptions and licensing. Games can rotate out, and subscription access does not provide the same ownership or offline model as buying and installing a game.
Who should use Luna?
Luna is a strong fit for
- Prime members who want to try cloud gaming without another base subscription.
- Families and friends looking for casual living-room multiplayer.
- Households with a supported Fire TV, smart TV, browser, or mobile device.
- Players who value convenience over maximum graphics customization.
- People who do not want to download large games or buy a console.
Luna is a weaker fit for
- Competitive players who are highly sensitive to input latency.
- Users with unstable, capped, or congested internet.
- Players who want permanent ownership and offline access.
- Anyone subscribing mainly for one game that may leave the catalog.
- Households without enough smartphones for the desired GameNight group.
- Players expecting smartphone controls to replace a full traditional gamepad library.

Luna is most compelling when the reader already pays for Prime and wants an easy way to play a changing selection of games—especially with friends in the same room. A dedicated console or PC remains the stronger choice for ownership, offline access, and the most consistent response.
