Amazon opened Luna to early access on October 20, 2020, launched it publicly in the United States in 2022, redesigned it around Prime in 2025, and ended game stores, individual purchases and third-party subscriptions on April 10, 2026. Prime members now have the clearest route into Luna’s rotating catalog, with Fire TV and the Prime Video app at the center of the living-room experience.
Luna streams games from Amazon’s servers, so you need a supported device, a compatible controller (or phone for some games), and a stable low-latency internet connection. It is best understood as an access service rather than a place to build a permanent digital library.
When did Amazon Luna release?
There is no single date that answers every version of “when did Luna release?” Amazon’s timeline has several important milestones:

The April and July 2026 changes matter more to new users than Luna’s original launch model. Older pages that describe Luna as a storefront with channels are no longer a safe description of the current service.

How much does Amazon Luna cost in 2026?
Prime access
Prime members in supported countries receive a rotating selection of Luna games with no separate Luna charge. Amazon has described that selection as more than 50 games, including recent releases, classics, indie titles, family games and GameNight content. The number and individual titles can change, so check the live catalog rather than treating “more than 50” as a permanent library. Details are in Amazon’s Prime-focused Luna announcement.
“Included with Prime” does not mean Luna is free: Prime is a paid membership, the catalog rotates, and availability varies by country. Prime discounts for young adults, students and eligible assistance or income-verified customers are Prime eligibility offers, not separate Luna prices. Verify current terms at Amazon Prime, Prime for young adults and Prime Access.
Is there a standalone Luna subscription?
Amazon’s older pages refer to Luna+ or Luna Premium and to third-party channels. Its April 2026 support notice confirms that game stores, individual purchases and third-party subscriptions ended, but the material available for this article does not establish a reliable current U.S. name or price for a standalone paid tier. Do not use launch-era Luna+ prices as current pricing; check the live Luna checkout flow if Amazon presents a paid option to your account.
What games are included with Prime?
Rotating Prime catalog
Amazon has highlighted Hogwarts Legacy, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and TopSpin 2K25 among Prime-facing Luna offerings. These examples describe games Amazon promoted, not a guarantee that every title remains available. Confirm a game’s current inclusion and country availability in the live Luna library.
GameNight
GameNight is designed for local multiplayer and social play. Amazon described more than 25 approachable games within the broader Prime offering, including Courtroom Chaos editions featuring celebrity judges such as Snoop Dogg and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Some GameNight titles can use phones as controllers; that does not mean every Luna game supports touch or phone control.

Third-party libraries after April 2026
Amazon’s official change notice says Luna no longer offers its former third-party-library model involving services such as EA, GOG and Ubisoft, nor third-party subscriptions through Luna. Do not rely on older instructions that tell you to buy a game, Ubisoft+, EA or Jackbox access inside Luna. Amazon’s notice is at this support page.
What happened to games bought through Luna?
Amazon ended Luna game stores and individual game purchases on April 10, 2026. The same change notice describes a transition timetable for previously purchased or third-party-linked titles, including a June 10 deadline referenced in the notice. You should not assume that a title bought through Luna remains permanently streamable.
- Open Amazon’s current support and account pages and review the affected title list.
- Check whether the game is still in the Prime catalog or otherwise available on your account.
- For Ubisoft access, use Ubisoft’s current subscription route at Ubisoft’s plan page rather than an old Luna guide.
- Do not buy replacement access based solely on a search result written before April 2026.
Which devices support Amazon Luna?
Fire TV
Fire TV is Luna’s strongest living-room platform. Amazon’s device documentation covers numerous Fire TV Stick generations, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV 2-Series and 4-Series televisions, Omni and Omni QLED models, and supported Fire TV sets from brands including TCL, Hisense, Toshiba, Panasonic, JVC, Xiaomi and Insignia. Exact eligibility depends on model and region; use Amazon’s device comparison table, streaming-player specifications and Fire TV smart-TV specifications.

Prime Video on Fire TV
Since July 23, 2026, Prime members in the United States and United Kingdom can find Luna games in a Games tab inside the Prime Video app on Fire TV. This announcement does not establish Luna inside Prime Video on Roku, Apple TV or every smart-TV platform. See Amazon Games’ announcement.
Computers
Amazon identifies Windows and Mac among Luna endpoints, alongside Fire TV and iOS. The service is cloud-streamed rather than a conventional downloadable PC launcher. Start with Amazon’s Luna developer overview and the current help pages for browser or app requirements.

Phones and tablets
A phone can be the screen running Luna, or it can act as a virtual controller while Luna runs on a Fire TV or another screen. The Luna Controller app supports compatible scenarios on iPhone and Android. Touch controls are game-dependent; a phone is not a universal replacement for a physical controller.
Xfinity devices
Amazon announced Luna support on Xfinity devices in the United States and Rogers Xfinity devices in Canada in December 2025. Local device eligibility and catalog availability can differ; see Amazon’s Xfinity announcement.
Do you need the Luna Controller?
Amazon Luna Controller
The Luna Controller is designed for the service and supports cloud-direct connectivity and Bluetooth. Amazon previously listed it at $69.99, but that figure comes from an older pricing page and is not a guaranteed 2026 price. Check the official product listing before buying; the historical reference is Amazon’s pricing article.
Other controllers
Amazon says supported Bluetooth controllers can also pair with Luna. Compatibility is not the same as “every controller works,” so verify current Xbox, PlayStation, USB and Bluetooth support in Amazon’s live help documentation.
Phone as controller
The Luna Controller app can turn an iPhone or Android phone into a controller, particularly for Fire TV play. It is convenient for party and family games, but a physical controller is generally better for action, racing and precision play. Amazon’s phone-controller guidance is available in this article.

Internet requirements and latency
Luna sends video from Amazon’s remote servers while your inputs travel back to them. A fast connection helps image quality, but latency also depends on Wi-Fi interference, household congestion, routing and distance from Amazon’s cloud region. Amazon’s published material supplied here does not establish a current official minimum Mbps figure, so avoid treating an old number as a guarantee.

- Use Ethernet where practical, or strong 5-GHz/6-GHz Wi-Fi close to the router.
- Pause large downloads and 4K streams on the same network.
- Restart the router and Luna device if stutter appears.
- Test at another time of day to identify congestion.
- Mobile hotspots may work for a trial but can suffer from data caps and fluctuating latency.
Common Luna problems and fixes
A game does not appear
- Check whether it left the rotating Prime catalog.
- Confirm your Amazon account, country and Prime entitlement.
- Check whether the title depended on a discontinued store or third-party subscription.
- Update Fire TV or the Luna app and test another supported device.
Input lag or stutter
Try Ethernet, a less congested Wi-Fi band, stopping other traffic, restarting network equipment and testing at another time. If other cloud services work but Luna alone remains delayed, regional routing or service-side latency may be involved.
Phone controller will not connect
Put the phone and Fire TV on the same network, update the Luna Controller app, allow local-network access and confirm that the game supports phone control.
Controller will not pair
Charge or restart it, remove stale Bluetooth pairings, select the correct Bluetooth or cloud-direct mode, update Fire TV software, and test another supported controller before replacing hardware.

- PlayStation Plus: most compelling for people already invested in PlayStation.
- Local console or gaming PC: higher upfront cost, but stronger ownership, offline access, compatibility and predictable latency.

Is Amazon Luna still available?
Yes. Luna remains active in 2026, with Prime access, supported devices and a rotating catalog; its former storefront and third-party-subscription features ended on April 10, 2026.
Can I play Luna without a controller?
Some GameNight and compatible games can use the Luna Controller app on a phone. Other titles may require a supported physical controller, keyboard or mouse.
Can I play my Steam games on Luna?
