Xbox Cloud Gaming is the best choice for most people who want a broad included game catalog. GeForce NOW is the better option for PC players who already own supported games and want the highest advertised resolution, frame rates, RTX features, or ultrawide support. Amazon Luna is the simplest fit for Prime members, Fire TV households, and casual family play—but Amazon’s 2026 removal of third-party stores and bring-your-own-library access makes older Luna comparisons outdated.
These services do not sell the same thing: Xbox primarily sells catalog access through Game Pass, GeForce NOW rents access to cloud hardware for supported games you own, and Luna offers a curated subscription catalog linked closely to Prime.
Quick comparison
| Service | Best for | Access model | Main advantage | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Cloud Gaming | Most subscribers | Included Game Pass catalog, plus select owned games | Broad value without buying every game separately | Catalog and cloud availability vary by plan, region, and time |
| GeForce NOW | PC-game owners and image-quality enthusiasts | Cloud hardware for supported games from linked stores | Highest advertised resolution and frame-rate ceiling | You usually need to own the game, and not every store title is supported |
| Amazon Luna | Prime members, Fire TV users, and families | Curated Luna and Prime selections | Simple living-room access and GameNight features | Its 2026 policy change removed the former BYOL model |
Prices, catalogs, queues, supported devices, and features change by country and date. The figures and policies below reflect the supplied research and should be checked on the linked official pages before subscribing.
What each service actually sells
Amazon Luna: a curated cloud catalog
Luna is primarily a subscription cloud-gaming service. Prime members receive a rotating selection of Luna games, while Luna Premium provides a broader included library. Amazon also promotes family-oriented GameNight play, Fire TV integration, and phone-controller functionality.

That model changed materially in 2026. Amazon announced that Luna would stop offering game stores, individual purchases, and third-party subscriptions beginning April 10, 2026. EA’s support documentation says Luna’s bring-your-own-library system ended on June 3, 2026. Older articles claiming that you can freely link Ubisoft, EA, or GOG libraries to Luna should therefore be treated as obsolete unless Amazon explicitly lists a current exception.
Amazon’s current materials describe Prime access as including more than 50 games, but the selection rotates. Check the current Luna FAQ and your account page rather than relying on a fixed title count.
GeForce NOW: a cloud PC for supported games
GeForce NOW is fundamentally different. A membership gives you access to NVIDIA’s cloud gaming hardware; it does not automatically give you every game in NVIDIA’s catalog. You generally need to own the game, or have access through a supported subscription such as PC Game Pass, on a linked storefront such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect, Xbox, or another supported service.
Compatibility is title-specific. A game appearing in a supported store does not guarantee that its particular edition, launcher, DLC, anti-cheat system, or regional version will work. NVIDIA’s system-requirements page is the authoritative place to check devices, settings, and current requirements.
Xbox Cloud Gaming: Game Pass catalog access
Xbox Cloud Gaming is primarily a benefit attached to Xbox Game Pass. The central appeal is that you can stream games included in your plan without purchasing each one separately while the game remains in the catalog and supports cloud play. Microsoft also supports streaming select games that subscribers own, but this is not equivalent to GeForce NOW’s broad PC-store model.
Microsoft’s US page currently lists Game Pass Ultimate at $19.99 per month. Microsoft notes that prices, promotions, features, catalogs, and availability can change. Ultimate is advertised with unlimited cloud gaming, shorter waits, and up to 1440p on supported titles and devices—not a guaranteed 1440p stream for every game.
Game ownership and total cost
| Question | Luna | GeForce NOW | Xbox Cloud Gaming |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do you usually need to own each game? | No for included Luna or Prime games | Usually yes, unless access comes through a supported subscription | No for games included in the applicable Game Pass catalog |
| Can you stream an existing PC library? | Former BYOL access changed in 2026 | Yes, subject to supported stores and titles | Select owned games only |
| What happens when the subscription ends? | Included-game access ends | You keep purchased games but lose the cloud membership benefit | Included-game access ends unless you own the game and it remains supported |
| Main financial risk | Rotating catalog and policy changes | Paying for both membership and unsupported or separately purchased games | Games can leave Game Pass |
Keep three concepts separate: ownership, subscription entitlement, and streaming support. Owning a game does not automatically make it streamable on every service, and having cloud access does not mean you own the game permanently.
If you own games on Steam
GeForce NOW is usually the logical first choice because it can preserve the value of your existing supported library. Your total cost is the membership plus the purchase price of compatible games. Xbox Game Pass may be cheaper if the games you want are already included. Luna is a weaker fit if your main goal is to stream a third-party PC library.

If you own no games
Xbox Cloud Gaming is easier to understand because the subscription includes a substantial catalog. Luna can be inexpensive as an addition to an existing Prime membership, particularly for casual play. GeForce NOW may provide little value until you buy compatible games.
If you already pay for Prime
Luna’s incremental cost may be low because some games are included with an active Prime membership. Prime is not free, however, and the included selection rotates. Confirm that the games you want are currently available in your market.
Image quality, resolution, and frame rate
GeForce NOW has the highest advertised ceiling
NVIDIA’s paid tiers advertise advanced options including 1440p, 4K/5K or ultrawide streaming, HDR, RTX features, Cloud G-SYNC, and high-frame-rate modes, depending on the membership, device, display, and game. NVIDIA lists Ultimate as required for 1440p and 90/120 FPS streaming on supported devices, while other advanced features require paid membership.
That makes GeForce NOW the leading candidate for a 4K monitor, ultrawide display, or high-refresh-rate setup—but “highest advertised ceiling” is not the same as a guaranteed experience. Browser play does not expose every setting available in the native PC application, and output depends on the game, hardware, connection, data center, and display.

Xbox targets accessibility over enthusiast settings
Xbox advertises up to 1440p for Ultimate on supported titles and devices. Resolution is not uniform across the entire cloud catalog, so do not treat the plan’s maximum as a promise that every game will stream at 1440p.
Luna emphasizes simplicity
Amazon’s current materials emphasize supported devices, Prime integration, and easy living-room play more than enthusiast-grade resolution or frame-rate controls. Do not assume older claims about Luna’s maximum resolution remain current without checking Amazon’s live specifications.
Latency and network requirements
Cloud gaming adds a complete round trip between your controller and a remote game server:
- Controller input is sent through your local network.
- Your ISP routes it to the provider’s data center.
- The remote game processes the input and renders a frame.
- The video is compressed, returned, decoded, and displayed.
NVIDIA says GeForce NOW requires latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center and recommends below 40 ms. For all three services, a strong general speed-test result is not enough: packet loss, jitter, Wi-Fi congestion, ISP routing, distance, and display processing can matter just as much.

- Reduce Bluetooth controller distance and use a wired controller where practical.
- Stop large downloads and video streams during play.

There is no defensible universal latency winner without controlled testing using the same game, device, controller, display, network, and server region.
Supported devices
Luna
Amazon identifies support across Windows PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, Fire TV, Fire tablets, iPhone and iPad browser access, Android devices, and selected Samsung and LG smart TVs. Compatible controllers, mouse and keyboard, the Luna Controller, and phone-controller features are also supported in relevant configurations. See Amazon’s Luna overview and current device documentation.
GeForce NOW
NVIDIA supports Windows and macOS applications, browsers, SHIELD, selected smart TVs, Fire TV devices, compatible PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, mobile devices, and supported gamepads on television devices. Exact requirements vary by model and operating-system version; consult the live requirements page.
Xbox Cloud Gaming
Microsoft lists cloud streaming on Windows PCs, handhelds, Apple and Android phones and tablets, selected Samsung and LG smart TVs, Amazon Fire TVs, Meta Quest headsets, and browsers through xbox.com/play. “Supported device” does not mean that every model, browser, controller, or game is supported.

Luna has the clearest casual living-room pitch. Amazon’s Luna Controller can connect through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and Amazon promotes Cloud Direct as a way to connect directly to cloud servers. Luna also supports other controllers and phone-controller functionality. Those features may reduce friction, but Amazon’s marketing should not be converted into a measured latency claim.
GeForce NOW is the strongest choice for traditional PC inputs. It supports many compatible controllers and, in suitable games and device configurations, mouse and keyboard. TV users should verify support for their specific app, television, and game.
Xbox Cloud Gaming is primarily controller-first. Keyboard and mouse support is not universal across the catalog, so check the individual game rather than assuming service-wide compatibility.
For local couch multiplayer, Luna deserves special consideration because of GameNight and phone-controller features. Xbox can also be strong when a game supports local multiplayer and you have compatible controllers. GeForce NOW can work, but it is not automatically the best party platform.

Catalogs, queues, and account friction
Luna
- Strengths: simple discovery, Prime integration, Fire TV convenience, and family-friendly play.
- Weaknesses: rotating availability, channel complexity, and a much weaker position for existing PC-library owners after the 2026 BYOL change.
GeForce NOW
- Strengths: makes supported games you already own useful on weaker hardware, with strong PC-store integration and advanced streaming options.
- Weaknesses: unsupported games remain unavailable; store linking, launchers, DLC, publisher authentication, and anti-cheat can create friction.
Xbox Cloud Gaming
- Strengths: quick discovery, a broad included catalog, first-party games, and a straightforward subscription model.
- Weaknesses: catalog rotation, plan restrictions, and the fact that not every Xbox or Game Pass game supports cloud play.
Do not promise no queues. GeForce NOW free and lower-cost tiers may have longer waits or session limits, while paid tiers improve access. Xbox describes Ultimate as offering the shortest waits and Premium as offering shorter waits, but demand varies by region, time, game, and capacity. Luna’s current queue and session terms should be checked directly rather than copied from older reviews.
Account setup also differs. GeForce NOW may require NVIDIA, Steam, Epic, Ubisoft, Xbox, and publisher accounts. Xbox uses the Microsoft account ecosystem. Luna uses Amazon/Luna credentials plus any required publisher accounts. Cross-play and cross-save depend on the individual game, not merely on the cloud service.
Which service is best for your situation?
Choose Xbox Cloud Gaming if you want included games
Choose Xbox Cloud Gaming—especially Ultimate—if you want one subscription to provide a broad catalog, prefer first-party Xbox games, or do not want to buy every game separately. It is the best overall value model for most people, provided your favorite games are actually cloud-enabled in your region and plan.
Choose GeForce NOW if you already own PC games
Choose GeForce NOW if your library is on Steam, Epic, Ubisoft Connect, or another supported storefront; you want mouse and keyboard; or you care about the highest advertised resolution, refresh rate, RTX, HDR, or ultrawide options. Check every important title before subscribing and remember that the membership does not replace game purchases.
Choose Luna if you are a Prime or Fire TV household
Choose Luna if you already pay for Prime, mainly play casually on Fire TV, or want approachable family and local multiplayer features. Do not choose it expecting to connect and stream a large Steam, EA, Ubisoft, or GOG library: Luna’s 2026 policy change ended the former BYOL model.
Recommendations by reader type
| Reader | Best starting point |
|---|---|
| Steam or Epic owner | GeForce NOW, after checking title support |
| Existing Game Pass subscriber | Xbox Cloud Gaming |
| Prime member | Luna, if its rotating selection fits your games |
| MacBook or Chromebook owner | GeForce NOW for owned PC games; Xbox for an included catalog |
| Fire TV user | Luna for casual play, or Xbox if its catalog is the priority |
| 4K or 120-Hz monitor owner | GeForce NOW’s appropriate paid tier and native app |
| Family or party player | Luna, especially for GameNight-style play |
| Weak laptop or desktop | GeForce NOW if you own supported games; Xbox if you want included games |
| Unstable internet user | None until the connection improves |
| Player who owns no games | Xbox Cloud Gaming or Luna rather than GeForce NOW |
Common problems and fixes
A game appears in a supported store but will not launch
- Search the provider’s supported-game catalog.
- Confirm the exact store, edition, launcher, and region.
- Link the correct account.
- Try the native app instead of a browser.
- Check publisher and provider support documentation.
- Do not buy a game solely because its storefront appears on a supported-store list.
The image is blurry despite fast internet
Packet loss, Wi-Fi interference, dynamic bitrate reduction, TV processing, browser limits, server distance, and background traffic can all cause blur. Try Ethernet or 5/6 GHz Wi-Fi, disable other traffic, enable Game Mode, use the native app, test at another time, and compare another service if routing is the problem.
Input feels delayed
Check ping, jitter, Bluetooth delay, TV processing, Wi-Fi congestion, browser decoding, and server location. Use Game Mode, Ethernet, and a wired controller where practical. A special controller may help with convenience, but no controller eliminates network latency.
Bottom-line decision
- Choose Xbox Cloud Gaming for the best all-around included-catalog value.
- Choose GeForce NOW for supported PC games you already own and the highest advertised streaming ceiling.
- Choose Amazon Luna for Prime integration, Fire TV simplicity, and casual or family play.
- Choose none if you need offline play, permanent access independent of subscriptions, or your connection has unreliable latency and packet loss.
The most important check is not the service’s maximum resolution or headline game count. Confirm that your games, device, controller, region, network, and preferred input method all work together before paying.
