Yakuza 0 was the “80s Tokyo” game announced for Amazon Luna, arriving on June 24, 2021. Sega’s crime-drama prequel joined Luna+ alongside The Falconeer and Killer Queen Black.
What game was the “80s Tokyo” announcement about?
It was Yakuza 0, Sega’s prequel and origin story for the series. The game is set in 1988, during Japan’s bubble-economy period. Its Tokyo setting is Kamurocho, a fictionalized entertainment district—not all of Tokyo—and its other major location is Sotenbori, a fictionalized Osaka district. Sega listed the Amazon Luna version for June 24, 2021 on the official game site: games.sega.com/yakuza0/home.html. This was a Luna release of an existing game, not the first-ever launch of Yakuza 0.
What is Yakuza 0 about?
Two protagonists, two cities
- Kazuma Kiryu is a young yakuza caught in a conflict over a seemingly insignificant vacant lot in Kamurocho.
- Goro Majima manages a struggling cabaret club in Sotenbori while becoming entangled in a dangerous power struggle.

Action combat rather than turn-based battles
Yakuza 0 is best described as a third-person action-adventure crime drama with RPG-style progression. Combat runs in real time, and both protagonists can switch among multiple fighting styles. Between story missions, players can explore dense districts, complete substories, run businesses, visit arcades and clubs, sing karaoke, gamble and play other minigames. That mix of a substantial main story and abundant side content made it an accessible entry point for newcomers.

The three titles were announced as additions to the Luna+ channel in the 2021 coverage. The announcement did not establish identical access terms beyond that channel designation, nor did it rule out further additions later in the month. Why Yakuza 0 stood out in the lineup
It was the month’s most recognizable, content-heavy single-player addition: a Sega prequel featuring younger versions of Kiryu and Majima, two distinct cities, real-time brawling and a large catalogue of diversions. Sega’s platform page listed Luna alongside other supported versions at games.sega.com/yakuza0/purchase.html; it was not a Luna exclusive.

Treat the June announcement as an archival 2021 availability report. Amazon substantially changed Luna in 2026: it discontinued game stores, individual purchases and third-party subscriptions, and previously purchased or “Bring Your Own Library” titles stopped being playable on Luna after June 10, 2026. Those changes mean the old Luna+ listing should not be read as a promise of current access to Yakuza 0. Check Sega’s current platform information for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One options, and do not confuse the 2021 Luna release with the later Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut edition.
