Amazon Luna is a revamped cloud-gaming service built around Prime access, phone-controlled living-room games and an optional larger catalog—not a new console replacement. In the 14 countries where Luna cloud gaming is available, Prime members can stream an evolving library at no separate Luna charge; U.S. customers can add Luna Premium for $9.99 a month. The redesign launched in October 2025, and a July 2026 update brought Luna games into Prime Video on Fire TV in the U.S. and U.K.
The short version
Amazon’s “all-new Luna” is a redesign of its existing cloud-gaming service, not a brand-new platform. It makes Luna easier to find and try through Prime, with a cloud-streamed library and GameNight, a collection of local multiplayer games that can use players’ phones as controllers. Amazon’s launch materials described more than 50 games for Prime members and more than 25 GameNight titles; both libraries can change over time.
Luna is most attractive if you already pay for Prime, have reliable internet and want convenient casual or group play without buying a console. It is a weaker substitute for a console or PC if you prioritize low input latency, offline access, permanent game ownership or a stable, comprehensive blockbuster catalog.

What changed, and when?
The original Luna offered a more conventional mix of channels, individual game purchases and third-party subscriptions. The revamped service instead foregrounds access through Prime, an evolving included library and GameNight, with a lower-friction living-room experience as its organizing idea. Amazon announced the redesign on October 1, 2025, and launched it on October 23. The change is best understood as a relaunch and repositioning, rather than the debut of a wholly new cloud-gaming technology. Amazon’s announcement describes its goals.
- October 2025: The redesigned Luna and GameNight arrive, with cloud gaming for Prime members in supported countries.
- December 2025: Amazon announces support on eligible X1 and Xfinity Xumo Stream Box devices in the U.S. and Rogers Xfinity Stream Box devices in Canada. Device announcement

What Prime includes—and what it doesn’t
In supported cloud-gaming countries, Prime provides access to an evolving Luna library without a separate Luna subscription. Amazon’s launch materials described more than 50 cloud-delivered games. These games stream from Amazon’s servers: you do not install them as PC games, but you do depend on a suitable connection and on the title remaining available.
Amazon also offers a rotating selection of downloadable PC games through its Prime gaming benefit. Those are distinct from Luna’s cloud-streamed titles: a compatible computer runs a downloaded game locally. Don’t assume that a downloadable PC offer is playable through Luna, or that a game listed in the cloud library is a permanent addition.

Luna Premium is an optional add-on for a broader Luna catalog. Amazon’s published U.S. price is $9.99 per month. It adds to, rather than replaces, Prime; availability and pricing can vary by country. The game lineup and inclusion status change, so use Luna’s live catalog to confirm whether a specific title is currently included with Prime or requires Premium.
GameNight: phones as controllers
GameNight is the clearest sign that the revamped Luna is aimed at shared, casual play as much as solo gaming. Amazon describes it as a collection of more than 25 local multiplayer games. On a supported TV, players scan a QR code and use their phones through a mobile browser as controllers. That can make an impromptu group game possible without a pile of gamepads, though phone control is for supported GameNight experiences—not a universal replacement for controllers in conventional games.
Amazon’s examples include Courtroom Chaos, Angry Birds Flock Party, Clue/Cluedo, Draw & Guess, Exploding Kittens 2, Fibbage XL, Quiplash 2: InterLASHional, Taboo, Tetris Effect: Connected, The Jackbox Party Pack 9, Ticket to Ride and Ultimate Chicken Horse. These examples come from Amazon’s launch FAQ, not a guarantee that every title remains available today. The format makes the most sense for families, parties and people who want quick sessions with minimal setup. It is not a substitute for a deep catalog of large single-player games.

Amazon highlighted major releases including Hogwarts Legacy, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, TopSpin 2K25, EA SPORTS FC 25, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Batman: Arkham Knight in launch or update materials. Treat these as examples Amazon promoted, not as a promise that they are all still included or available in every country. Amazon also promoted the Luna-exclusive Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite in June 2026.
A headline game can help show that Luna offers more than party games, but catalog presence is not the same as permanent ownership. Titles can rotate, and access may depend on the plan, country and supported device. Before subscribing for one particular game, check its current listing in the live Luna catalog.

Amazon lists Luna support for Fire TV, Fire tablets, selected Samsung and LG smart TVs, iOS and Android devices, Windows PCs, Macs and Chromebooks, as well as eligible Xfinity and Rogers streaming boxes. Support can differ by model, country and app, so verify your exact device before buying hardware specifically for Luna.
- For GameNight: Use a supported phone as a controller by scanning the on-screen QR code. A dedicated gamepad may not be needed for these titles.
- For other games: Use a compatible Bluetooth controller, keyboard and mouse where supported, or a compatible accessory. Amazon lists Xbox controllers, DualShock 4 and Razer Kishi among examples. The Luna Controller is optional, not automatically necessary.
- For streaming: Amazon has recommended a sustained connection of at least 10 Mbps. That is a recommendation, not a promise of smooth play. Latency, jitter, packet loss, Wi-Fi congestion, device performance and distance from the server also affect responsiveness. A high download-speed number alone cannot guarantee good controls.
For a laggy stream, try 5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet if available, move closer to the router, pause large downloads or uploads, and restart the router and streaming device. Test another supported device to help isolate whether the problem is network- or device-related. These are practical troubleshooting steps, not Amazon-guaranteed fixes.

Who should try Luna?
- Already a Prime member? Luna is worth trying if cloud gaming is available in your country: the included library and GameNight can be sampled without adding a Luna subscription fee.
- Buying for a household or gathering? GameNight’s phone-controller approach is useful for quick group play, especially if you do not own several controllers.
- Mostly play solo, with particular games in mind? Check the live catalog and the plan requirement first. A title Amazon promoted at launch may not still be included.
- Competitive or latency-sensitive player? A local console or PC is generally a safer fit when immediate input response and offline play matter most.
- Not a Prime member? Compare the combined cost of Prime and any optional Premium subscription with your actual use. Luna is less compelling if you want only cloud gaming and would not use Prime’s other benefits.
- Outside the supported cloud countries? Do not subscribe expecting access to streamed Luna games; check local availability. The downloadable PC-game benefit is separate.
Important caveats before relying on it
Luna trades downloads and dedicated gaming hardware for dependence on a network connection, Amazon’s service and a changing catalog. You do not get the same control as a locally installed PC game, and a cloud library should not be treated as a permanent collection. If a particular game is the reason to join, confirm its listing and plan requirement before paying.
Amazon’s launch FAQ describes individual game purchases and third-party subscriptions as part of the earlier service model, but reports in 2026 have described changes to those options. The supplied official materials do not establish the current policy clearly enough to treat those reports as definitive. If you rely on a purchased game or a connected third-party library, check Luna’s current terms and your account’s support information before assuming you can stream it.
If a game is missing, check the live catalog, your country, whether it is included with Prime or requires Premium, and whether you are viewing a cloud title or a downloadable PC offer. If phone pairing fails, rescan the QR code and make sure the phone is joining the active TV session; if needed, try another supported browser or a compatible controller. Availability and troubleshooting behavior can vary by device.
