Amazon Luna’s redesigned experience launched on October 23, 2025, introducing GameNight: a collection of casual local multiplayer games in which players use their smartphones as controllers. The games run on a shared TV or other supported screen, while each participant scans a QR code to join.
For Prime members, GameNight is included with the rotating Luna catalog. But Luna is no longer the same storefront-focused service some users remember: in 2026, Amazon ended individual Luna purchases, third-party stores, subscriptions sold through Luna, and Bring Your Own Library access.
What Amazon Luna’s redesign introduced
The October 2025 relaunch combined three changes:
- A redesigned Luna interface.
- A Prime-included cloud library that launched with more than 50 games.
- GameNight, a curated collection of more than 25 social and party games designed for same-room play.
Amazon’s aim is to make Luna feel less like a traditional game storefront and more like an entertainment feature that households can start on hardware they already own. Amazon’s launch announcement describes GameNight as a way to play without buying a separate controller for every participant.

What is GameNight?
GameNight is a specific Luna collection, not a phone-controller mode available across the entire service. It focuses on quick, accessible games for families, parties, and casual groups gathered around one screen.

Examples listed by Amazon include Angry Birds Flock Party, Draw & Guess, The Jackbox Party Pack 9, Ticket to Ride, Exploding Kittens 2, Clue/Cluedo, Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg, Taboo, Tetris Effect: Connected, Ultimate Chicken Horse, and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
The lineup is evolving, so the launch list should not be treated as a permanent catalog. Player limits also vary by game.
How to use a phone as a Luna controller
- Open Luna on a supported TV, computer, or other compatible device.
- Select a GameNight title.
- Wait for the game to display its QR code.
- Have each player scan the QR code with a smartphone.
- Follow the browser-based prompt on each phone and join the session.
The game remains on the shared display while each phone provides touchscreen controls. This lowers the setup barrier for guests who have never used a game controller, but it does not eliminate network or cloud-streaming latency.
GameNight’s design target is in-person, same-room multiplayer. It should not be confused with ordinary Luna multiplayer or the older Luna Couch feature, which supported remote participation in some compatible local multiplayer sessions.

What hardware do you need?
For GameNight, you need:
- A compatible Luna endpoint, such as Fire TV, a supported Samsung or LG smart TV, a PC, Mac, Chromebook, Fire Tablet, iOS device, Android device, or another supported endpoint.
- One internet-connected smartphone for each participant.
- A stable internet connection.
- A Prime membership if you are using the Prime-included catalog.
Games outside GameNight generally require an Amazon Luna Controller, a supported Bluetooth controller, or a mouse and keyboard, depending on the game and device. “No controller required” therefore applies to GameNight’s phone-controlled titles—not to Luna as a whole.
Catalog, availability, and internet requirements
Amazon’s launch materials described more than 50 Prime-included Luna games and more than 25 GameNight titles. Those figures describe the launch offering; the library can change as games are added or removed. Prime access is a rotating benefit, not permanent ownership of every included title.
Amazon lists cloud-delivered Luna availability in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Device support and individual features can vary by country. Amazon’s Luna FAQ contains the availability and device details.

Amazon recommends a sustained connection of at least 10 Mbps for the best experience. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee of lag-free play. Wi-Fi congestion, router distance, latency, packet loss, simultaneous devices, and the responsiveness of the TV and phones can all affect play.

How much does Luna cost?
The October 2025 Luna FAQ listed the following U.S. Prime pricing:
- Prime: $14.99 per month or $139 per year.
- Prime for Young Adults and college students: $7.49 per month or $69 per year after the stated trial, where eligible.
- Prime Access: $6.99 per month after the stated trial, where eligible.
These are the official figures published in the launch FAQ and should not be assumed to be permanently unchanged. Amazon also describes Luna Premium as a broader library that includes the Prime offering, but the cited launch material does not establish a current separate U.S. Premium price.
GameNight is therefore best understood as a Prime-included benefit, not as a free standalone service with no membership requirement.
What changed in 2026?
The biggest change for existing Luna users was not the interface. Starting April 10, 2026, Amazon stopped offering:

Previously purchased Luna titles and Bring Your Own Library games remained playable through June 10, 2026, after which they were removed from Luna. Amazon made affected save data available for download for 90 days after that date, subject to compatibility limits. Linked third-party accounts may still provide access through their own platforms, but Luna no longer functions as the ownership-oriented storefront it once was. Luna games are now inside Prime Video on Fire TV
On July 23, 2026, Amazon added a Games tab to the Prime Video app on Fire TV in the United States and United Kingdom. Prime members can launch included Luna games there without a separate download or purchase, using a controller or phone where supported. Amazon says the feature is intended to put games alongside television, film, and sports content.
This integration reinforces Luna’s new direction: casual cloud gaming discovered through Amazon’s entertainment ecosystem, rather than a standalone store built around purchasing and streaming an existing library.
If the QR-code controller does not work
Amazon’s cited launch material does not provide a detailed troubleshooting tree. The sensible first checks are:

- Confirm that the TV or display is running a supported Luna endpoint.
- Make sure every phone has an active internet connection.
- Scan the current QR code instead of relying on an old browser tab.
- Restart the game if a participant cannot join.
- Check the title’s player limit.
- Use a supported Bluetooth controller or Luna Controller for a non-GameNight title.
Different games can support different numbers of players, so a GameNight label does not guarantee that every title accommodates a large group.
Is Luna now a better option for casual group gaming?
For the right household, yes. GameNight’s strongest advantage is friction: a compatible screen and the phones people already carry can be enough for a short party-game session. Prime members also avoid a separate GameNight fee, and the shared-screen format suits families and guests better than solo-oriented cloud gaming.
It is not a direct replacement for a console or a permanent PC game library. The catalog rotates, the selection is primarily casual and party-focused, player counts differ by title, and games outside GameNight usually need conventional controllers. Cloud performance also depends on the internet connection. Most importantly, Amazon’s 2026 changes removed the ability to buy Luna games individually or stream a library brought in from supported third-party stores.
