Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →AMD released Adrenalin Edition 25.8.1 on August 4, 2025. It added Radeon RX 9060 support, new game and FSR 4 integrations, and fixes for several game and video-playback problems. It is now a previous driver, not the latest: AMD has since published newer 26.x releases, including Adrenalin 26.6.1.
Quick verdict: 25.8.1 made the most sense for owners who needed RX 9060 support, a listed game integration, or one of its targeted fixes. It was not a universal performance upgrade, and AMD documented unresolved crashes, corruption, and VR stutter. If you are choosing a driver today, check AMD’s current release notes first; use 25.8.1 only when you specifically need that version or are troubleshooting against it.
What is Adrenalin 25.8.1?
Adrenalin Edition is AMD’s Windows graphics-driver and Radeon Software package. Version 25.8.1 was a WHQL-certified release, meaning AMD lists it as having passed Microsoft’s driver certification process; that does not guarantee trouble-free operation in every game or system.
The version numbers refer to different layers of the package. AMD lists 25.8.1 as the software release label and 25.10.25.01 as the driver version for the main Radeon package. Windows may show the Driver Store version as 32.0.21025.1024. Polaris and Vega cards use a separate package with driver version 23.19.23.11.

What changed for games and graphics features?
New game support
AMD listed support for Mafia: The Old Country, Mecha BREAK, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, the Unreal Engine 5 version of Valorant, and the Battlefield 6 open beta. Driver-level game support can improve launch compatibility or apply title-specific handling; it is not a promise of a particular frame-rate increase on every supported card.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
Additional FSR 4 support
AMD added FSR 4 game support for Cyberpunk 2077, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, Mafia: The Old Country, Arena Breakout: Infinite, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, Wreckfest 2, and Lies of P. Availability depends on the game’s implementation and GPU. The release notes do not promise FSR 4 for every Radeon card that can install this driver; they specifically identify RX 9000-series hardware in several FSR 4-related known issues.
HYPR-Tune, Vulkan and ROCm
HYPR-Tune support was added for The Alters and F1 25. HYPR-Tune is an automatic configuration feature within AMD’s HYPR-RX ecosystem, not a universal performance mode or a guarantee of higher frame rates. The release also expanded Vulkan extension support and added ROCm on WSL support for the Radeon RX 7700 XT.

- Chipset: AMD RX 9060 XT
- Memory: 16 GB GDDR6
- XFX SWFT Dual Fan Cooling Solution
- Boost Clock Up to 3320 MHz
What problems did the driver address?
- Video playback: AMD said it reduced stutter during 4K YouTube playback in Chrome.
- Game stability: The notes list a fix for intermittent crashes or driver timeouts in Monster Hunter Wilds when Radeon Anti-Lag and Instant Replay were enabled, as well as a fix for intermittent crashes in Battlefield 2042.
- RX 9000 stability: AMD listed a fix for intermittent crashes in Dragon Age: The Veilguard on RX 9000-series cards.
- Warzone: AMD reported reduced stutter on the Season 03 “Verdansk” map on some Radeon products. It said it was still working with the game’s developer toward a complete solution, so this was not a confirmed full fix.
- VR: The release included texture fixes for Oculus Rift S on RX 5000- and RX 6000-series cards.
- AI and development workloads: AMD added more Vulkan Llama.cpp parameters on Ryzen AI MAX+ products.
What known issues remained?
AMD’s release notes documented the following problems. A workaround is included only where AMD or the release guidance provides one.
| Game or use case | Affected hardware | Reported issue and response |
|---|---|---|
| Mafia: The Old Country | Radeon RX 6600-series | Corruption. No workaround was stated in the release notes. |
| The Last of Us Part II | Radeon RX 7900-series | Intermittent crashes. No workaround was stated. |
| Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 | Radeon RX 9000-series | Intermittent crashes. No workaround was stated. |
| WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers with FSR 4 enabled | Radeon RX 9000-series | Intermittent crashes or driver timeouts. Disable FSR 4 in the affected game or revert to a known-good driver if instability persists. |
| FBC: Firebreak | Some Ryzen AI 300- and Ryzen 7000-series processors | Intermittent crashes. No workaround was stated. |
| VR headsets running at 80Hz or 90Hz | Certain Radeon products, including RX 7000-series cards | Stutter. AMD’s temporary workaround was to change the headset refresh rate. |
| NBA 2K25 MyCareer mode | Radeon RX 9070-series | Intermittent crashes. No workaround was stated. |
If you play one of the affected games and your current driver is stable, staying on it was the safer choice unless you needed a specific 25.8.1 feature. RX 9000 owners using FSR 4 had particular reason to test one game at a time rather than assume the integration was trouble-free.

Which Radeon cards and systems were supported?
Main Radeon package
The main package added RX 9060 support and listed Radeon RX 9070, 7900, 7800, 7700, 7650, 7600, 6900, 6800, 6700, 6600, 6500, 6400, 5700, 5600, 5500, and 5300 series products, along with AMD Radeon AI PRO R9700. AMD also listed mobile Radeon families, but notebook support carries important qualifications below. For the full product list, consult the main release notes.
Separate Polaris and Vega package
Polaris and Vega products use a separate 25.8.1 package, not the main driver. AMD lists Radeon VII, Radeon RX Vega, Radeon Pro Duo, Radeon RX 500/500X, Radeon RX 400, and Radeon 600-series mobile graphics for it. Its driver version is 23.19.23.11, and its two listed fixes address intermittent video playback not appearing in AMD Software and intermittent sidebar-view misalignment. Confirm the GPU family before downloading from the Polaris/Vega release page.

Windows, laptops and other configurations
AMD lists Windows 11 version 21H2 and later, and 64-bit Windows 10 version 1809 and later, while noting that operating-system support can vary by Radeon product. This is a Windows driver package, not one intended for Apple Boot Camp.
For laptops and all-in-one PCs, AMD recommends the computer maker’s driver. AMD’s package is a reference driver and may have limited support for vendor-specific features; if power management, display switching, hotkeys, brightness, or other system integrations stop working, return to the OEM-provided driver. AMD says its Adrenalin package does not support handheld gaming devices, so handheld owners should use the device maker’s driver.
On a system combining RDNA graphics with Polaris or Vega graphics, AMD’s Auto-Detect and Install Driver Updates option may be needed instead of selecting only the standard package.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to download and install 25.8.1
- Identify the system and GPU. Check the exact Radeon model and whether the computer is a desktop, laptop, all-in-one, or handheld. Determine whether the GPU belongs to the main package or the separate Polaris/Vega group.
- Open AMD’s official release page. Use the main release notes or Polaris/Vega release notes to confirm package fit and review the issues relevant to your games.
- Choose the Windows 10/11 64-bit installer. Select the main Radeon package for supported current products or the dedicated Polaris/Vega package for older cards. Laptop owners should first check the computer manufacturer’s support page.
- Run the installer with administrator privileges. Follow the installer prompts and restart Windows if requested.
- Verify and test. Confirm the installed Adrenalin version, then test the game or workload that motivated the update. If instability appears, disable the affected feature, revert to a known-good package, or reinstall the laptop’s OEM driver as appropriate.
Should you install this driver now?
Because newer 26.x drivers have superseded 25.8.1, most users should start with AMD’s current driver information rather than install an older release by default. The 25.9.1 notes, followed by later 26.5.2 and 26.6.1 releases, establish that this version is historical. A previous driver can still be useful for controlled troubleshooting or when a particular version is required.

- Consider 25.8.1 for a version-specific need: for example, reproducing a problem against this release or checking whether one of its documented fixes or integrations addresses your setup.
- Prefer a known-good driver if you rely on an affected title or VR setup: especially if the known issue matches your GPU and workload.
- Use the manufacturer’s package on a laptop or handheld: avoid trading system-specific support for a generic package without a clear reason.
AMD provides the version history through its previous-drivers page. Check the release date and the notes for the exact product before installing any archived driver.
