AMD announced the first Radeon RX 9000 graphics cards on February 28, 2025. The Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 reached board-partner retailers beginning March 6, 2025, with AMD-announced U.S. starting prices of $599 and $549. The RX 9060 XT followed on May 20, with availability listed for June 5; AMD’s Radeon pages later added the RX 9070 GRE.

AMD’s initial announcement and March 6 date applied to the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070—not every model that would eventually carry the RX 9000 name. March 6 was a stated starting date for board-partner availability, so country, retailer, stock and launch-hour timing could differ.
AMD’s announcement is available at AMD’s February 28, 2025 release. It does not establish a universal retailer stock level or a single launch time in every region.

The figures below are AMD-announced specifications and U.S. suggested prices. A custom board-partner card can cost more because of its cooler, factory overclock, size or market conditions.

AMD’s detailed RX 9070 XT references are the official product page and its graphics specification database. The RX 9070 XT uses two 8-pin power connectors. Confirm the exact connector arrangement on the partner model you plan to buy.
Board partners
AMD named Acer, ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX and Yeston as leading partners for the initial launch. Their cards can differ substantially in length, slot thickness, fan acoustics, clock settings and price, even when they use the same GPU.
What RDNA 4 and FSR 4 add
AMD positioned RDNA 4 around improved ray-tracing accelerators, second-generation AI accelerators and software features including HYPR-RX. It also introduced machine-learning-powered FSR 4 upscaling for RX 9000 hardware.

That is an AMD product claim, not an independent performance result. FSR 4 must be implemented by the game and supported by the installed AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition driver; it is not automatically available in every title. Upscaling or frame generation also cannot be treated as equivalent to native-rendering performance, and image quality and latency vary by game.
The later RX 9060 XT launch
AMD introduced the Radeon RX 9060 XT at Computex on May 20, 2025. AMD listed the 8GB card at a $299 SEP and the 16GB card at $349 SEP, with availability beginning June 5, 2025 in its presentation materials.

The 16GB version provides more memory headroom for demanding 1440p textures and longer ownership, while the 8GB version is aimed at lower-cost systems where settings and game requirements are moderate.
Where the RX 9070 GRE fits
AMD’s current product pages list the Radeon RX 9070 GRE as another desktop RX 9000 card. Its published specifications include 48 compute units, 12GB of GDDR6 on a 192-bit interface, up to a 2.79GHz boost frequency, 220W board power, a 650W recommended power supply and two 8-pin connectors.

AMD does not provide a universal U.S. retail price for the GRE on its product page, and availability is market-dependent. Check the RX 9070 GRE product page and local retailers before treating it as an option.

1080p and lower-cost builds
The RX 9060 XT 8GB is the lowest announced-price option. It makes the most sense when you play at 1080p, accept sensible texture settings and do not expect maximum VRAM headroom over several years.
Mainstream 1440p
The RX 9060 XT 16GB, RX 9070 GRE where sold, and RX 9070 are the relevant tiers. Compare actual street prices and independent game testing; AMD’s SEPs are historical launch figures rather than guaranteed current prices.
High-refresh 1440p or entry-level 4K
The RX 9070 XT is the higher-power choice, with 16GB and a 304W board-power rating. It is a poor match for compact cases or a marginal power supply.
Ray tracing and 4K
RDNA 4’s improved ray-tracing hardware is a reason to consider the generation, but architecture descriptions do not establish parity with a competing card. Use independent benchmarks at your resolution, settings and preferred upscaling mode before buying.
Checks to make before buying
- Power supply: AMD lists 750W recommended for the RX 9070 XT. AMD’s specification database lists 450W recommended for the RX 9060 XT; verify the exact model and system configuration.
- Connectors and clearance: Check the partner card’s number of 8-pin connectors, length, height and slot thickness against your case and cables.
- Memory: A 16GB model is generally the safer long-term choice when the price premium is reasonable. Eight gigabytes is not automatically unusable, but high-resolution textures and future games can reduce headroom.
- Display and operating system: Relevant RX 9000 products support DisplayPort 2.1a, HDMI 2.1b, Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 11 and Linux x86-64 according to AMD’s specification database.
- Drivers and games: Confirm that your current AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition driver and the particular game support FSR 4 or other features you intend to use.
- Price and returns: Treat $599, $549, $349 and $299 as announced SEPs, not promises that every custom card sold at those amounts. Check the retailer’s region, stock, shipping and return terms.

What the launch timing means now
The February 28 announcement is a historical launch milestone, not a forthcoming release. The initial RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 availability began March 6, 2025; the RX 9060 XT arrived later, and the RX 9070 GRE expanded the family in selected markets. For a purchase in 2026, current street price, independent benchmarks, game support, VRAM needs and your power and case limits matter more than the original announcement date.
