AMD launched the Radeon RX 9060 XT on June 5, 2025, with a U.S. suggested launch price of $299 for the 8GB model and $349 for the 16GB model. The card is AMD’s lower-priced RDNA 4 desktop GPU and is positioned primarily as a 1440p gaming option.

The $299 figure applies specifically to the 8GB version and is AMD’s suggested price—not a guarantee that every board-partner card will remain at that price. There is no single AMD reference card to shop for: retail models come from partners including ASUS, ASRock, Acer, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX, and Yeston.

RX 9060 XT launch date and price

AMD unveiled the Radeon RX 9060 XT at COMPUTEX 2025 on May 20, 2025, and set retail availability for June 5, 2025. ASUS separately announced that its TUF Gaming, Prime, and Dual cards would go on sale on the same date.

Variant Launch U.S. suggested price Total board power Best fit
Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB $299 150W Lower-cost 1440p builds and buyers who prioritize the initial price
Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB $349 160W Longer-term ownership, high-resolution textures, and more memory-intensive games

AMD calls these prices SEPs, or suggested prices. Partner cards can cost more or less depending on the cooler, factory overclock, design, retailer, and supply. Current street pricing and stock should therefore be checked at the time of purchase rather than assumed from the launch announcement.

  • Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs

When comparing listings, start with RX 9060 XT graphics cards and then confirm whether each result is the 8GB or 16GB model. Do not treat a listing’s product title, price, or photograph as sufficient proof of the memory capacity.

Specifications: RDNA 4 with 32 compute units

The RX 9060 XT is built on AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture and has 32 compute units. AMD lists a 2.53GHz game clock and a boost clock of up to 3.13GHz for the launch family. Individual partner cards can advertise different clock speeds and power limits.

  • Architecture: AMD RDNA 4
  • Compute units: 32
  • Memory: 8GB or 16GB GDDR6
  • Memory interface: 128-bit
  • Infinity Cache: 32MB
  • Interface: PCIe 5.0 x16
  • Display support: DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b
  • Ray tracing: Third-generation ray-tracing accelerators
  • AI hardware: Second-generation AI accelerators
  • Upscaling: FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 support
  • Media engine: H.264, HEVC, and AV1 encode and decode support

The two launch versions share the same broad GPU design, but they do not have the same memory capacity or power specification. The 16GB card is rated at 160W total board power, compared with 150W for the 8GB card.

Is the 16GB RX 9060 XT worth buying?

For a new card intended to last several years, the 16GB RX 9060 XT is the more defensible choice when the additional $50 fits the budget. Extra VRAM can provide useful headroom for modern games, high-resolution texture packs, and settings that place heavier demands on graphics memory.

That is a capacity-based recommendation, not a promise of a fixed frame-rate advantage. The 16GB version will not automatically be faster in every game: performance depends on resolution, graphics settings, texture quality, the game engine, driver version, and whether the workload is limited by the GPU itself. In games that fit comfortably within 8GB, the two versions may perform similarly apart from differences between their specific board designs.

The 8GB model remains the entry point at $299 and can make sense for a price-sensitive build, especially if the target is 1080p or moderate 1440p settings. Buyers who routinely use high texture settings or intend to keep the card through future game releases should think carefully before saving the initial $50.

What performance should you expect?

AMD positions the RX 9060 XT as a high-value 1440p gaming card and reports generational gains over RX 7600-series products in selected games. Those figures come from AMD’s own test configurations and should be treated as vendor claims, not independent benchmark results.

AMD’s current 16GB product material gives 1440p Ultra examples ranging from 61 frames per second in The Last of Us Part 2 to 115 frames per second in Forza Horizon 5 with ray tracing. These are AMD-provided figures, not a universal performance rating. Results can change substantially with the CPU, driver, game version, preset, ray-tracing settings, upscaling mode, and test scene.

In practical terms, the RX 9060 XT is best understood as a 1440p-focused card rather than a guarantee of maximum settings and high frame rates in every new release. Ray tracing and demanding texture settings may require a game-specific compromise, and FSR 4 support does not remove the underlying workload or VRAM requirements.

Board-partner cards are not interchangeable

AMD’s launch strategy relied on board partners rather than a first-party reference card. That means two RX 9060 XT cards can have noticeably different physical and electrical characteristics, including:

  • Card length and height
  • Thickness and slot occupancy
  • Cooling design and fan behavior
  • Factory boost clock
  • Power limit and connector arrangement
  • Noise characteristics
  • Warranty terms

For example, ASUS announced TUF Gaming, Prime, and Dual versions. The cited ASUS launch information described 2.5-slot designs, lengths of no more than 304mm for the listed family, and a 202mm length for the Dual 8GB model. Those measurements apply to the specified ASUS cards—not to every RX 9060 XT.

  • Dedicated Support: Please contact us directly through Amazon for any product questions or assistance you may require.
  • Next‑Gen AMD RDNA 4 Architecture: Powered by the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT GPU with 32 Compute Units featuring 3rd Gen Ray Tracing and 2nd Gen AI Accelerators, delivering exceptional 1440p gaming and AI‑enhanced performance.
  • Blazing‑Fast Engine Clock: Delivers a boost clock of up to 3290 MHz and a game clock of 2700 MHz out of the box, providing the raw power for smooth, high‑framerate gameplay.
  • 16GB GDDR6 Memory on 128‑Bit Bus: Equipped with 16GB of high‑speed GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gbps, offering ample capacity and bandwidth for modern game textures and creative applications.

Sapphire’s PULSE RX 9060 XT 8GB is another example of why the exact SKU matters. Sapphire lists an advertised boost clock of up to 3290MHz for that overclocked partner model, which is higher than AMD’s family-level specification. A higher advertised clock does not by itself determine the best purchase; cooler quality, noise, price, dimensions, and warranty can matter more.

RX 9060 XT buying checklist

1. Check the memory capacity

Confirm whether the listing is for 8GB or 16GB. The launch prices were $299 and $349 respectively, but retailer listings may use similar names and product images for both versions. If capacity headroom is a priority, search specifically for RX 9060 XT 16GB models.

2. Verify the exact power requirement

AMD’s official 16GB product specification lists a 450W minimum power-supply recommendation. Partner cards can specify different requirements, so check the manufacturer’s page for the exact model before installing it. Confirm the required power connector as well as the wattage recommendation.

A quality, appropriately rated power supply is preferable to choosing solely by the printed wattage. If the existing PSU is older, lacks the required connector, or is close to the card’s stated minimum, replacement may be sensible before the GPU upgrade.

3. Measure the case, not just the GPU category

Compare the card’s published length, height, thickness, and slot occupancy with the case’s available clearance. Leave room for the power cable and consider whether front-mounted radiators, drive cages, or other expansion cards reduce the usable space.

A compact model such as an ASUS Dual card may fit where a larger triple-fan design does not, but “RX 9060 XT” alone does not identify a compact card. Check the exact model number and manufacturer dimensions before ordering.

4. Count the outputs you actually need

The RX 9060 XT family supports DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b. The number, layout, and physical combination of ports are model-specific, however. Check the board-partner specification if you need several monitors, a particular HDMI connection, or a specific DisplayPort setup.

  • System Compatibility Note: 2.5-slot card, 290x123x51mm, two 8-pin power, recommended 700W PSU. Verify chassis clearance before purchase.
  • Dedicated Support: Please contact us directly through Amazon for any product questions or assistance you may require.
  • AMD RDNA 4 Architecture: RX 9070 GPU with 56 CUs, 3584 stream processors, 3rd gen RT and 2nd gen AI accelerators – built for 1440p/4K gaming.
  • Factory Overclocked Performance: Boost clock up to 2520 MHz, game clock 2070 MHz – delivers smooth, high-framerate gaming out of the box.
  • 16GB GDDR6 on 256-Bit Bus: High-speed 20 Gbps memory provides exceptional bandwidth for 4K textures, ray tracing, and demanding workloads.

5. Compare the whole card, not only the clock speed

Factory overclocks can make one card’s advertised boost number look attractive, but they should be weighed against cooler size, acoustics, power limits, warranty coverage, and current price. A quieter or shorter card may be a better choice for a small-form-factor or living-room PC than a faster-looking model that is difficult to fit.

Drivers and setup after installation

Use AMD’s official Radeon software and support channel as the primary source for RX 9060 XT drivers. After physically installing the card, download the driver package for the correct Windows version, install it, restart the PC if prompted, and confirm in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition or Windows Device Manager that the new GPU is detected.

If you are troubleshooting a driver problem, an optional driver maintenance tool such as Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated, missing, or incompatible drivers and offers backup and restore functions according to Outbyte’s documentation. It is not required for RX 9060 XT ownership, does not replace AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, and should not be presented as a guaranteed way to increase game performance. AMD’s official driver channel should remain the first stop.

Before using any automated driver utility, create a restore point or another recovery option, review what it proposes to install, and avoid replacing a working graphics driver simply because a generic scanner reports an update. Graphics-driver problems are often best resolved with the official AMD package and, when necessary, a clean reinstall.

Who should buy the RX 9060 XT?

  • Buy the 8GB model if the $299 launch price is the primary goal, the system targets 1080p or moderate 1440p gaming, and you understand the capacity trade-off.
  • Buy the 16GB model if the extra $50 is affordable and you expect to keep the card for several years, use demanding texture settings, or want more VRAM headroom.
  • Compare partner designs carefully if the card is going into a compact case, a quiet PC, or a system with a borderline power supply.
  • Look at alternatives if you need consistently high ray-traced performance, a larger memory bus, or performance beyond the card’s 1440p value-focused positioning.

The most useful comparison is not simply “8GB versus 16GB.” It is the complete package: current price, game resolution, expected ownership period, case clearance, PSU compatibility, and the particular board partner’s cooler and warranty.
