amdpcom64.dll is a 64-bit AMD Radeon graphics-driver component, not a Windows system library. If Windows reports that amdpcom64.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, the safest fix is to repair the AMD graphics-driver installation rather than download the DLL separately.
Its embedded description is Radeon PCOM Universal Driver, and its publisher is Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. AMD distributes both amdpcom64.dll and the 32-bit amdpcom32.dll in its driver binaries.

The exact file path varies. It may appear in C:WindowsSystem32, within an AMD driver package, in the Windows Driver Store, or as a private copy installed with an application. Do not assume that copying a replacement into System32 is the correct repair.
What the amdpcom64.dll error means
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because amdpcom64.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading amdpcom64.dll.”
- “Failed to load amdpcom64.dll.”
- “amdpcom64.dll was not found.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “The application was unable to start correctly.”
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that amdpcom64.dll itself is absent. The DLL may exist while one of its dependencies is missing, damaged, incompatible, or outside the directories Windows searches.

The problem commonly follows an interrupted AMD driver update, driver rollback, graphics-driver cleanup, GPU replacement, failed application update, antivirus quarantine, disk cleanup, or damaged storage.
amdpcom64.dll is not part of Windows, DirectX, .NET, or the Visual C++ Redistributable. Microsoft distributes separate VC_redist.x86.exe and VC_redist.x64.exe packages, but this AMD driver file is not one of them.
Fix 1: Reinstall the correct AMD graphics driver
This is the most likely solution, particularly when several games or graphics applications fail or the error appeared after a driver change.
Identify the installed AMD graphics device
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Record the exact AMD Radeon GPU name.
- If the computer uses an AMD processor with integrated graphics, record that graphics device too.
If Display adapters shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, Windows may not currently have the proper AMD driver installed.
On a laptop or all-in-one computer, also record the manufacturer and model. OEM graphics packages can be necessary for switchable graphics, power management, display hotkeys, and custom firmware. In that situation, check the computer manufacturer’s support page before installing AMD’s generic package.
Download the matching package
- Open AMD’s official Drivers and Support page.
- Use AMD’s Auto-Detect tool, or select the exact Radeon product manually.
- Choose the installed Windows version.
- Download the recommended graphics-driver package.
- Do not select a driver for a similar but different Radeon model.
If the system has both a discrete Radeon GPU and AMD processor graphics, select the package that matches the hardware configuration. A 64-bit Windows installation should receive the normal 64-bit driver package. Installing a 32-bit DLL under the name amdpcom64.dll is not a valid workaround.
Install the driver
- Close games, browsers, recording software, and GPU utilities.
- Right-click the downloaded AMD installer.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup wizard.
- Choose the normal recommended installation unless AMD’s instructions for the specific package require another choice.
- Allow the installer to complete.
- Restart Windows, even if the installer does not insist on a restart.
- Launch the application that produced the error.
A successful repair normally means the original application opens without the DLL message, Device Manager shows the AMD adapter without a warning icon, and the AMD installer completes without rolling back.

If the standard installation repeatedly fails, rolls back, or leaves the same error:
- Download AMD Cleanup Utility from AMD’s official support site.
- Save your work and close open applications.
- Run the utility as administrator.
- Accept the restart into Safe Mode if the utility offers it.
- Allow it to remove AMD graphics and audio driver software.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct AMD graphics package.
- Restart again.
AMD states that its Cleanup Utility removes AMD graphics and audio drivers and software but does not remove AMD chipset drivers. Do not interrupt the cleanup process.

If the computer is an OEM laptop or all-in-one and the generic AMD package still causes display, sleep, brightness, or switching problems, remove the generic package as appropriate and install the graphics driver supplied by the computer manufacturer.
Fix 2: Repair the affected application
If only one game or program fails while other graphics applications work, the application’s own files are more likely to be incomplete.

Open the application’s launcher and look for an option named:
- Verify files
- Verify integrity
- Repair
- Scan and repair
- Validate installation
Run that process, wait for it to replace damaged files, and restart the application. The exact menu name depends on the program.
Repair the app through Windows
For a Microsoft Store app or a program registered with Windows:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the affected program.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if available.
- Launch the program again.
If Repair does not resolve the error, return to the same screen and use Reset only if you understand that it may remove the application’s local settings or data.
For a traditional desktop application, use its official installer to choose Repair, or uninstall and reinstall it from the vendor’s official source. If the application’s installer supplied a private copy of amdpcom64.dll, reinstalling that application is the correct way to restore it.
Ask whether the failure affects one application or every program that uses graphics. Public error reports do not establish a reliable list of particular games that require this file, so the exact program name and complete error text matter.
Fix 3: Check Windows Update and restart
A Windows update can repair system components and install hardware-driver updates, although Windows Update may not provide the newest or best OEM-specific AMD package.

Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart the computer.
- Check Windows Update again until no further important updates are offered.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart the computer.
After restarting, test the affected application. If the AMD driver still appears missing, return to the AMD driver reinstall procedure instead of repeatedly reinstalling unrelated Windows components.

Use these commands when multiple programs are failing, Windows has recently reported corruption, updates have failed, or the driver installer itself behaves abnormally. They may repair Windows servicing damage, but they do not necessarily restore an AMD driver file.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows files.
If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, restart and test again. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once. If the same failure remains, repair the AMD driver rather than treating amdpcom64.dll as an ordinary Windows file.

Fix 5: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may quarantine a genuine driver file, but a filename resembling an AMD component is not proof that a detection is harmless.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent quarantined or blocked items.
- Check whether the detection names
amdpcom64.dllor an AMD driver package.
Before restoring or allowing anything, inspect:
- The file’s full path.
- Its digital signature.
- Whether it came from an official AMD installer.
- The detection name and reason.
- Whether the file appeared after a legitimate driver installation.
Do not restore an unexplained file merely because its name looks familiar. If a genuine AMD file was removed, reinstall the AMD driver from AMD or the computer manufacturer instead of manually downloading the quarantined file.
After reinstalling, run a Windows Security scan. If the same driver file is repeatedly quarantined, leave it blocked until its origin and signature have been verified.
Fix 6: Confirm the file path and dependency situation
If the error remains even though a file named amdpcom64.dll exists, the problem may involve a dependency or DLL search path.
- Note the exact path of the file.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Confirm that the description refers to the Radeon PCOM Universal Driver and that the company is Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab, if present.
- Check the application folder and its installation logs for a missing dependency.
Windows commonly searches the application directory and then system locations according to its DLL search rules. A file in System32 may not satisfy an application that requires a private copy beside its executable, and a private copy may not be appropriate for every application.

The reverse is also possible: the named DLL is present, but another library that it needs is absent. That is why copying another version of amdpcom64.dll into the application folder often changes nothing.
Do not overwrite a verified AMD file with a different catalogued version. The observed versions listed in file catalogs are not a complete AMD release history and should not be treated as a guide to the correct version for your computer.

System Restore is useful when the problem began immediately after a driver update, cleanup, application installation, or other known change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs, if available.
- Review the programs and drivers that may be changed.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart and complete the restore.
System Restore does not replace personal files, but it can remove drivers or applications installed after the selected restore point. Test the affected application after Windows starts. If the error returns after a later driver update, install the correct OEM or AMD package instead of repeatedly restoring the system.
What not to do
Do not download amdpcom64.dll from a DLL website
A manually downloaded DLL may contain malware, be the wrong architecture, belong to a different driver generation, or lack the dependencies your application needs. It can also create version conflicts when copied into System32.
Restore the file through the AMD graphics-driver installer or the affected application’s official installer. These packages can place related files together and maintain them through future updates.
Do not run regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. An ordinary AMD runtime or driver library does not become repaired by registration.

Running this command can produce an entry-point or registration error:
regsvr32 amdpcom64.dll
That result does not diagnose the underlying problem. Reinstall the driver or application instead.

Do not install Visual C++ first
Repairing Visual C++ is relevant only when the complete error or diagnostic log identifies a separate Visual C++ runtime dependency. amdpcom64.dll itself is an AMD Radeon driver component, not a Visual C++ Redistributable file.
Do not mix AMD driver versions
Do not copy amdpcom32.dll and rename it to amdpcom64.dll, combine files from different driver packages, or install a package for another Radeon model. A 32-bit component cannot replace a 64-bit component.

Collect these details before escalating:
- The complete error message, including every named module.
- The name of the game or application.
- Whether one program or every graphics application fails.
- The AMD GPU or processor graphics model.
- The Windows 10 or Windows 11 version.
- The full path of any
amdpcom64.dllfile found. - What changed immediately before the problem.
- The result of the AMD installer, DISM, and SFC.
- Any Windows Security quarantine entry.
- Relevant application logs, AMD installer logs, and Event Viewer errors.

This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings when the option is available.

Usually no. Reinstall Visual C++ only when separate evidence identifies a missing Microsoft runtime. Repair the AMD driver first.
Can I copy the file from another computer?
No. The other computer may use a different Radeon model, driver generation, architecture, or dependency set. Install the matching official AMD or OEM driver package.
What if the file exists but Windows still says it is missing?
A dependent DLL may be missing, the file may be damaged, or the application may not search the directory where it is installed. Repair the affected application and AMD driver, then review application logs and Windows Security history.
Should I use regsvr32 amdpcom64.dll?
No. This is not a normal repair step for an AMD driver library and may return a registration or entry-point error.
