Angry Birds Rio’s December 18, 2012 update added 24 bonus levels and four power-ups, including the newly featured Samba Burst and TNT Drop. What the December 2012 update added
The update brought 24 bonus levels to Angry Birds Rio: 18 Star Levels and six Mighty Eagle levels. It also featured four power-ups: Sling Scope, Super Seeds, Samba Burst, and TNT Drop. Pocket Gamer and iClarified reported the update on December 18, 2012, for iOS and Android (Pocket Gamer; iClarified).

How the 24 bonus levels unlocked
18 Star Levels
Stars earned in the game unlocked these bonus stages. The contemporary reports identify stars as the unlock condition, but do not establish consistent episode-by-episode thresholds.
Six Mighty Eagle levels
Feathers unlocked the six Mighty Eagle levels. The reports do not provide a reliable, complete breakdown of feather requirements by episode.

What the four power-ups did
- Sling Scope: Provided laser targeting to help aim a shot.
- Super Seeds: Supersized birds, according to the update notes.
- Samba Burst: The update notes described it as a way to “Dance your way to destruction.”
- TNT Drop: The notes called it a “special delivery”; the official Angry Birds video description published December 20, 2012, said it could “plant explosives all over the level.”
Those brief launch descriptions establish the power-ups’ broad roles, not a full set of activation rules or scoring effects. The official Angry Birds video promoted the Rio power-ups two days after the update reports.
What players received at launch
Launch coverage said players received 20 free power-ups and could claim one additional free power-up daily. A contemporary report also said power-ups could be bought through in-app purchases (Pocket Gamer; iClarified). These were terms reported at the time, not current pricing or availability information.

Is the update still available?
The 2012 coverage establishes the historical release on iOS and Android, but it does not establish whether Angry Birds Rio or version 1.5.0 can still be downloaded from an official store today.
