Anthony Mackie says he plans to return to finish his work on Avengers: Secret Wars after his Broadway engagement in 2027. That does not mean filming starts only then: the reported comment leaves open whether he has already filmed some material.
What Anthony Mackie said about finishing Secret Wars
GamesRadar+ attributes this statement to Mackie’s interview with Deadline: “So once I finish on Broadway, I’ll go to finish up all the Avengers stuff for Secret Wars.” The wording points to finishing his Avengers work after Broadway, not necessarily beginning it then. GamesRadar+’s report says Mackie may have filmed some material before the engagement, but the available account does not establish when his filming began or how much remains.
When is Mackie on Broadway?
The report says Mackie’s Broadway engagement in Macbeth runs from February through July 2027. He is expected to resume the remaining Secret Wars work after that run. The dates describe Mackie’s reported schedule; they do not establish the schedule for the rest of the cast or the film’s production as a whole.
Does this mean Secret Wars is delayed?
No delay is confirmed by Mackie’s comment. GamesRadar+ reports the film’s current release date as December 17, 2027, as of October 7, 2026. A cast member finishing work after a summer engagement does not by itself show that the film’s release will move: the report does not say that the production is waiting for Mackie, or that his remaining work cannot fit before release. ComingSoon.net also reports the post-Broadway comment and that release date.

What the 2015 Secret Wars comics may tell fans
GamesRadar+’s Secret Wars guide assesses that the film is likely to draw heavily on the 2015 comic run. That story centers on Battleworld, a world Doctor Doom reconstructs from pieces of different universes. This is comic context, not confirmation that the movie will use the same plot or reproduce every story detail.
