No: AnyPS5 has not been shown to run nearly 90% of PlayStation 5 games. The headline confuses engineering progress on tracked system-library functions with game compatibility. Separate shader-instruction figures are also sometimes mistaken for a percentage of games. Neither metric tells you what share of the PS5 library works.
What AnyPS5 is designed to do
According to the AnyPS5 project README, AnyPS5 is a tool for automatically porting PS5 executables to Linux and Windows. Its relinker converts an executable into the target system’s native format and supplies implementations of system PRX libraries for dynamic linking. The project says this approach does not use emulation or a separate runtime process.
Ars Technica describes the method as relinking a game’s original x86 code into native PC executable instructions, placing it between static decompilation and emulating the full PS5 environment. That is explanatory reporting; the project README is the primary source for AnyPS5’s stated design.
Why “nearly 90%” does not mean nearly 90% of games
The README says its system-library percentage counts functions the project knows about so far—not every function in the PS5 system libraries. The denominator can grow as the project declares more functions. So even a high percentage of the currently tracked functions would not establish the same percentage of games as ported or playable.

Shader-instruction coverage is another technical progress measure, not a game count. A game may depend on many functions and shader instructions; the cited percentages do not say how many complete games work.
What the reported progress figures actually measure
Two reports dated October 6, 2026 give different snapshots of project-tracked system-library functions. They should be read as separate reported figures, not combined into one definitive live total.

| Publisher and snapshot | System-library functions | Shader instructions | What the figures mean |
|---|---|---|---|
| GameGPU, October 6, 2026 | 2,449 of 2,815 discovered functions implemented (87.0%) | 1,125 of 1,166 known instructions translated (96.48%) | Reported engineering coverage of discovered functions and known instructions—not game compatibility. |
| TweakTown, reporting an October 5, 2026 progress screenshot | 2,538 of 3,207 tracked functions (79.14%) | 1,118 of 1,166 tracked instructions supported (95.88%) | Reported coverage of the project’s tracked items—not the share of games that run. |
The different function totals and percentages reflect different reported snapshots. The available figures do not establish why their counts differ, so they should not be treated as directly interchangeable. Both reports caution against reading technical coverage as commercial game readiness or compatibility.
For context, Ars Technica reported about 76% system-library coverage and 50% GPU shader-instruction support on October 1, 2026. Those are earlier figures, not the later October 5–6 snapshots.

What has actually been shown running
The project README lists Dreaming Sarah, a 2D platformer, running at a stable 60 fps on a GTX 1050 Ti and an i5-7500 at 3.4 GHz. This is a documented result for one game and setup, not a minimum hardware requirement or evidence that a broad portion of the library works. The README links to a verified-games list for game-by-game status.
Ars Technica also reported proof-of-concept footage of the PS5 edition of Dead Cells running as a native PC executable through AnyPS5. A proof of concept demonstrates a result for that example; it does not establish general readiness or compatibility across PS5 games.

- Enjoy smooth and fluid high frame rate gameplay at up to 120 fps for compatible games, with support for 120Hz output on 4K displays.
- PS5 consoles support an 8K output, so you can play games on your 4320p resolution display.
- Maximize your play sessions with near-instant load times for installed PS5 games.
- 825GB SSD allows ultra-fast load times, while 3-D audio output produces crisp acoustics.
- Explore uncharted virtual territories and slay dragons with this sleek Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console.
What users should expect from unsupported cases
The project README documents its failure behavior: “Unsupported or unexpected states strictly throw std::runtime_error. what() is printed to stderr and the process terminates.” In practical terms, an unimplemented or unexpected state can stop the process rather than being silently handled.
The README also says the shader recompiler produces SPIR-V, which can be validated with Spirv-Tools when built with the relevant option. That is a development detail, not a compatibility guarantee.

Are PC requirements or supported OS versions established?
The project describes Linux and Windows as target platforms, but the cited documentation does not establish supported OS versions or minimum PC hardware. The GTX 1050 Ti and i5-7500 configuration is the README’s setup for one game result; it should not be treated as a general requirement.
What to check before treating a game as compatible
- Look up the specific title in the project’s verified-games list rather than extrapolating from library-function or shader percentages.
- Distinguish a game that is verified or playable from one that merely boots or appears in proof-of-concept footage; those are different levels of evidence.
- Check the dated status and disclosed configuration for the game. The reports’ progress percentages alone do not supply that information.
Project scope and legal responsibility
The README describes AnyPS5’s purposes as interoperability, research, preservation, and compatibility. It says the project does not include, distribute, or require copyrighted software, firmware, cryptographic keys, or proprietary libraries, and places responsibility on users to obtain and use binaries in accordance with applicable laws and license terms.
